There are no style points in basketball.  If you outscore the other team you win.   If you grab 4 more rebounds and make 3 more shots, that can be the difference between winning and losing.

I get that the only narrative people want to discuss is Coach Ford no matter what the players show us on the court.   I get that you will have no other narrative unless we win the A10 tournament.  But what thread are we allowed to discuss the players accomplishments' if every thread is turned into a referendum on Coach Ford?

I get it.  I'm even cool if you guys pin a thread to the top where you vent about all of Coach Ford shortcomings every game.  But hijacking every thread to vent about Coach Ford isn't fair to the other posters on this board.  We didn't do anything to you.

Good to see Mike Meadows filling it up.  Jimerson needs all the help he can get.  Too bad Hargrove had such a tough night shooting the ball.
The freshmen looked like freshmen -- overmatched.  Just hope they improve each week.

By force do you mean going from a 3 points and 1 rebound a game to 6 points and 3 rebounds a game?  Because I think that's all you can reasonably expect even with increased minutes this year.  He came off the bench for his prep team.  He's a fundamentally sound project.

This years class would have been better if not for the de-commitments. Count no recruit until they come to school in the fall and enroll in class, just the way the world works these days. I actually don’t think Travis Ford is any bit a worse recruiter, he just has to compete with other schools openly offering money, while SLU says “maybe when you’re a senior”. Like wrestling while blindfolded and having your arms tied behind your back while your opponent can see and has full use of his arms. Not really a level playing field.

My view of coach Ford differs some from most on the board. I dont think he is a great recruiter, I think he brought a high level recruiting process that includes non stop recruiting.
I think the lack of discipline that he displays in game play management is also in his recruiting efforts.  He puts a short term goal over a long term goal. Just like he abondons the goal of playing young players when they make a mistake, he grabs the best available player instead of recruiting the teams greatest need. For instance, did we really need Pickett last year? No, we needed a big. He recruited Frech and Gordon. Really good players that I enjoyed but they didn't complement each other as they both had very limmited range, and adding Collins didn't help.
His recruiting may be hurt by NIL, but its hurt worse by lack of delivering big seasons. You can't paint a picture of winning championships and NCAA tournament appearances this deep into your SLU tenure when it hasn't happened. Plus aposing coaches are quick to point out the failures.
To be fair, I think Ford has had more than his share of bad luck. But the impact of that bad luck has been made worse by not recruiting team needs and not playing young players when we had them.

This is one of the rare occasions where lack of transparency makes sense.  You can only use a medical redshirt if it's a season ending injury.  It's too early to make that call.  If I were SLU, I wouldn't give any further details about Parker's situation at all until that decision is made.
We're not good enough to make a run in the A10 tournament without a legitimate big.  Does it even make sense for Parker to return this season if we're a below .500 team by then and our big man situation hasn't improved substantially?

Bruce reminds me of Vouyoukas in his freshman year.  He understands how to play the game but isn't physically capable of what we need him to do yet.

The young guys' minutes have increased each of the first two weeks of the season.  The only reason LJ didn't play 25 minutes against Wichita State is because he got sick.  Thames is moving in the same direction.
Either we'll get some good news about one of our bigs in the next 10 days or Bruce will have to grow up in a hurry.  In any case our young guys will be playing plenty of minutes.

Most MBMs would just be fine with a healthy Perkins and COVID layoff that lasted two weeks instead of a month.  That's two additional NCAA appearances.  Three NCAA tournaments in a four year period, even if it resulted in no wins, would still make us one of the top mid major programs in the country.
You blame Coach Ford's for the injuries, Covid and Situation 2.  I think part of it is Ford and a lot of it is just bad luck.  Ultimately it doesn't matter what the reasons are.  If he can't figure a way to turn the ship around, his days are numbered.

Yurimania had 12 assists last night, in a Santa Cruz victory.
Averaging 5 points, 7 assists, and 1.5 turnovers per game. Team is 4-0.

Coach Ford has experienced more misfortune than any Billiken coach I've ever seen.  Nothing like Situation 2, this rash of injuries to key players or the COVID layoff happened at any of his previous stops.
If his teams were as healthy as the ones he had at UMass, I think we would be smiling right now.  Instead it's a nonstop fire drill.
