OT - The Red Panda is retiring

The title of this thread is The Red Panda is Retiring. I expected the article to be about that. But reading the article it was about an unfortunate fall. Then I looked again at the title of the thread....it was written in 2014. -
Does only 4 transfers and 13 freshmen bother you? In this day of open transfer, that number seems low. Or are the frosh that good that we don't need transfers?

If the greatest halftime performer of all time falls during an event that nobody is watching does she make a noise when she lands?

This is a fantastic review of the year. The three pillars of the ADepartment: Educate, Compete, Building Community. For those who have forgotten, this is college athletics. Yes, football and basketball have gone pro, but for the rest of the athletes, they are at SLU to gain an education and to compete in their sports. If you don't value education anymore, tell that to the athletes and their parents. How many SLU athletes will be able to make a living playing professional sports in their selected sport? 10%? I'm unsure of the total number of SLU athletes, but with 298 making the A10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, I'll estimate that there are at least 400. So for the 360 that won't get a living wage paycheck for playing sports after graduation, Education is their future. We have several posters who appear to not care about education, or the athlete. The athletes apparently are at SLU simply to provide entertainment, while the "fan" gets to sit in a comfortable seat with plenty of beverages nearby. I for one, and maybe I am the only one, am glad SLU stresses education. Compete: For the poster who didn't find anything about wins, you needed to have the volume on or you had already tuned out. To bash track and field is irresponsible. They put in every bit as much effort as the baseball, softball and every other athlete puts in. I guess winning the A10 softball tourney and medaling in T&F A10 Championship isn't winning? Building Community is a vital part of everyone's life these days. If you volunteered to help out in N. St. Louis after the tornado destruction, you can see how important this is. The video highlighted the basketball team's efforts in N STL, hospital visits, visiting schools and serving others. The Jesuit Mission emphasizes serving others. Building Community-the third pillar Go Bills!

I'm so glad you asked. The two scenarios are very different. One is a direct decision by the athletics director Chris May. The other is a human error, likely made by an underpaid employee in an understaffed department. I also never explicitly said that I found Chris May's wardrobe decision to be a "big deal". In fact, as I stated in my post, I was not going to post anything about it but brianstl mentioned it, so I decided to weigh in with a fairly measured take on the matter. Details really do matter, especially when it takes little to no effort. In a video detailing the achievements of his athletics department, he very easily could have worn something more reflective of someone that has Billiken spirit. He chose not to. It's an opportunity to put on a display of school spirit, a show of solidarity with fans, a show of solidarity with the athletes and coaches you work with every day, wearing the same school colors they wear. He wore a plaid sport coat and an orange and black tie. They are shooting the video from the stomach up, he could have brought in a gray coat and blue tie. Takes 5 minutes to change before and after shooting the video. It takes zero effort to show some school pride in a video about being proud of "his" student athletes.
-
-enjoy your time Being a Billiken -I hope in addition to raising the academic profile of the entire institution that you are a friend to athletics
-
-which is it?
-
I didn't want to be the first to say it, but I just don't understand May's thought process. You have to know you're filming the year end review on a certain day, right? It HAS to be on the calendar. You have an almost unlimited supply of Billiken Athletics apparel and I'm sure a collection of royal blue ties. All you can muster is a light blue plaid sport coat and a tie devoid of the any of SLU's official colors? DETAILS ARE EVERYTHING.
-
If he can get a job at Auburn, that’s fine by me.
-
Is he auditioning for a job at Auburn with that tie?

He's a smart, poised player who doesn't get bothered by pressure.

If these cards sell well you will see the style proliferate and become widespread. If they do not sell, the style will not last long. It is all about money folks. Laclede Gas was there forever until they modernized. They changed their name to Spire and started using a flashy orange envelope for billing. Recently I got a notification that they were going back to while envelopes, maybe they will change the name again, who knows? The really crazy thing is that each and every one of these changes costs them lots of money.
