Halftime Show pitch - ZOOperstars vs Principia College. With Kevin Duranteater coming back from injury the ZOOperstars will be heavily favored. The only chance Principia has is to get Shaquille O'Seal in early foul trouble and try to go to work on Yao Flamingo inside.

2025-26 Season - Minutes Breakdown
Dr. Holly Hills replied to ACE's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Me too. It’s very early but they both look like really good shooters, and hard workers with great attitudes. If it’s razor thin, it usually comes down to who plays the best defense and who makes the least amount of mistakes. At this point, I’m rooting for both of them to excel and stay here a long time! -
VCU puts the stipulation in every coach's contract that they have to come back and play with their new team if hired away. There's other teams outside the P5 that aren't Principia. MWC, WCC, CUSA, MVC, AAC All with teams with the same issue as SLU. The quad system needs to go away. What's a normal amount of buy games for a school of SLU's stature?

I would like to know who our best ball handlers are in order. 1 Trey Green. 2?, 3? McCottry Sharma, Jones, Brown?
-
Stu talks scheduling last night. Not much new. Last half of 30 minute segment is on the roster. Iowa doesn't want to play SLU in the Acrisure and not for the reasons you might think, per Stu. Someone may have asked for that not to happen. MTE organizers are catering to the P5 schools wishes. These mega-MTE's (this one and the Player's Era Tourney) are starting to drain the pool of teams available for smaller MTE's. Four team events may be disappearing. Roster: Biggest thing that stands out so far is depth. How will this roster get the most out of Robbie's skills? Of the newcomers, which one could make the biggest difference. Stu's response is that Q Jones is probably top of the Coach's list, along with Green and Brown. Brown does a lot of things, is a hard worker on the floor and effects many aspects of the game. He isn't counting out the other three. Thames "cautiously optimistic". Practicing and hasn't had any issues. Stu not sure how his treatment is different than last year. How much he can play in a game remains to be seen. Stu guessing, he comes off the bench for maybe 15 min per game. Fun question, which Bill players are on top of your list for this quarter century. Love, Perry....Stu didn't cover the Majerus years....Jimerson, Goodwin, Collins. Mentioned Best, McCall, Jett, Mitchell, Evans in the Majerus years. Nice rotation! Brendan puts Goodwin as #1 Billiken on his quarter century list. Stu mentioned he will be picking up the pace of Stu on SLU in the near future after relaxing for a few weeks.

I expect that we will be listed, because as you say, there are many teams with high turnover rosters, and some services rated us as having recruited well in the portal.

I am going to be interested in the competition between Sharma and Dunlap. Both appear to fit Schertz's role of Shooter. Both had small sample sizes last season, but Sharma was 36% long distance and Dunlap 37.5%. Neither of them had outstanding defensive stats last season. Neither are shot blockers and neither have registered a large number of steals or assists over their career. Sharma is listed at 6'6", 195 lb. Dunlap is 6'7" 190 lb, So for me, they are similar players, fitting Schertz roll of Shooters. And they are good at it. Will Schertz play two Shooters at a time? Sure, but how often. There are only 200 minutes to divide up.
-
Sharma's shot looks like a thing of beauty. He never misses! I'll say it again - Green seems to have a very Swope-ian game every time I see him. He won't be counted on to carry the load the way Swope was - almost 37 mpg is crazy. My only knock on Swope was the turnovers and some of the decision making. but he could certainly create a bucket for himself or others.

That pass from Amari in the beginning is insane

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DL-jyljO48N/?igsh=MWdqbzkzMXI2N2IxMg== Otenio 3 point jumper look real good here... Also Ishan seems like a hell of a player. -
That is correct - that's typically the only way non-P5 teams get games like that these days. Historically, VCU has had very few home games against P5 opponents. The college basketball landscape has really changed A LOT in the last few years. I'm not sure some fans have completely absorbed it all. You now really have to look hard to find examples of P5 schools playing non P5 teams in true road games. This a challenge much bigger than SLU.
-
Part of his buyout maybe?
-
Otenio was 3 of 5 from the arc against us, and 4 of 8 under the circle for 19 points. He had 10 boards and 2 blocks. Pretty good audition if you ask me. Perhaps he really likes the Chaifetz rims. His rim protection will be better than what we saw from any Billiken last season. I'd race to get him signed up too. Avila, Anya and Otenio will all get their minutes. It is fun to talk lineups and minutes, but anyone who thinks they have all the answers in July is day dreaming.
-
Wade agreed to it in May.
-
Gotta wonder why Schertz raced to get Paul then... seems odd if he is as average to Anya as you're making it sound.

Thanks for the heads up on this @slu72. This site is always first out, and rosters aren't yet settled. But it is fun to read. With the portal highway wide open between last season and this season, the method of 'guessing' how well a team will do has to have been adjusted. I see our foe SEMO is on the list at #137, also rated as #1 in the OVC. Arkansas State, our NIT conqueror, is #130. Checking them out, they pretty much lost everyone. Might be time for a rematch? I'm adding the link for easy reference as we move through the next 117 days of their list. https://www.collegesportsmadness.com/mens-basketball/top-144-previews

That was several years ago. We also hade a home-home with Auburn. The college basketball landscape has changed a LOT since then in just the last 2-3 years.
-
VCU had a H & H with NC State, but that ties back to Coach Wade's stint at VCU.
-
VCU does not consistently get P5 home games. The last one was three years ago against Vandy. These games have become increasingly rare over the last few years.
-
Ha! Clueless, quoting the Northwestern playing GW WOMEN'S game. Have you found a link yet showing UVa will play at VCU?
-
Exactly, but, excuse making is what we do best.
-
How do teams like UD and VCU consistently get P5 games? They win alot of games, travel well. CJS needs to do the same, but I maintain it should be against the BEST non P5 teams we can, in home and home series. Play and beat the best non P5 teams you can find, they will come to us. SLU should reestablish a relationship with the StLouis Sports Commission (if it still exists). Establish a 4 team tourney here, play it at the Dome, or the Savvis even. A double header. Good teams, non P5 within 100 mi of StL. Memphis, DePaul, Murray State, Northern Iowa, High Point, Stony Point, heck even the Blue Point Oysters if they have a team and are good. Make StL a bball destination. If the P5 wont play us, let's stop whining about it. We are stuck with our league, so do like the women's soccer team, go out and get the best schedule you can. Not for the fans, but for the team to tell them they're good and we will bring in the best teams we can to show the bball world how good we are. No more pisx asx teams that dont build confidence for our men. End of rant mhg

I have no problem with less home games, but it is only fair for price adjustment. If they take that away game as you proposed, won't they get a pay day to offset the home tix cost reduction plus save on the buy price they would have to give the non D1 opponent. If we won't get the payoff then I fail to see the advantage at all. Travel costs, no payoff, and loss of home revenue seems a big loser for us not to mention the possibility of a loss on the road to a top team with the odds of a win pretty low.
