No reason to play another buy game. We have enough. Why aren't we playing more road games? We could open up a H & H against a worthwhile opponent who could help us in the NET instead of playing a D-3 opponent, and a very bad D-3 team at that. The players on Principia didn't start for their HS teams. I don't like this math of "we play a D-3 opponent because it doesn't count against the NET." Zero is still zero. Schedule a game that helps NET. Why have a meaningless game in season where players could get hurt? I'm still all in on Schertz but the elephant in the room right now is his weak scheduling. We have the talent to be an NCAA team, but we aren't close to having an NCAA schedule.

FWIW what I've heard is Green is an auto starter and big minutes player. The other 2 wing players impressing coming out of early practices are Jones and Sharma. Not much buzz on Brown or Dunlop.

Thank God Billiken's . com isn't monetized. Can you imagine the engagement farming from '92?

Doesn't sound promising. I'd love some more reports from anyone else who attended, by the way. We'll read them on the next @Midtown Madness episode (taking a couple weeks off for vacations).

For NET purposes, the game against Principia doesn't count. You play a 300+ NET team in a Q4 game instead, and you beat them by 30, your NET could still possibly be worse. D2 and NAIA games don't count either. No, I don't like the Principia mathchup, and I didn't like the Avila or Billy Woods games last year. The year end NET listing published by the NCAA has us at 17-14 last season, prior to the NIT. We were 19-14 at that point, according to SLU accounting. The NIT loss put us at 19-15. Those two games mentioned didn't count in the NET math. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-men/d1/ncaa-mens-basketball-net-rankings https://slubillikens.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule

Thanks @White Pelican!

I usually let someone else give these kinds of reports cuz I just don't have an eye for who's doing what. And this team has SO many new faces that I don't have a clue who the starters will be. A new player that stands out to me is 6' 6" frosh Alyssa Korkenmeier. Like a skyscraper out on the floor and the body to bang with the bigs. Reminded me of Maddy Gits. Frankly an unusual sight for SLU women's bb. Runs the floor well and small sample size, seems to have a decent midrange jumper. Didn't see her hit anything from way outside and she was blocked on several attempts at layups by shorter defenders. That was a puzzle to me. Tillett has 13 players and employs 2 male practice players to make up 3 groups of 5. They did several scrimmages with the 3 teams rotating. A lot of running, passing and shooting, not a lot of made baskets. I'm looking forward to the season but have no idea how we'll do.
-
Only one of those 7 guys was a rotation player for the number 10 team in the country last season before he had surgery. Gibson led the team in minutes last year. Dunlap is two inches taller and better defensively. He is going to get minutes.
-
Any reports about the open practice from anyone who watched?

I agree with you on Anya. Opposing coaches don’t game plan enough to know when to automatically fouls him. Just can’t play him at the end of close games.
-
In! I call starting small forward. A little undersized at 5’11 but I’ve got that dawg in me.
-
I'd like to see a recruit post a picture of Ed Macauley or Bob Ferry just once.
-
Sharma, Brown, Green, Dunlop, Jones, McCottry & Thames 3 spots for 7 players. 2 players on that list won't play at all this season and will probably not be on the team past January. Really don't understand the hate for Anya. He shot over 60% from the field last year, 65% from 2. He is a plus rebounder and defender. Yeah he can't shoot FTs. He barely shot 2 FTs a game. He is a starter level A10 big. He can fill in for Avila in a pinch with his passing and ballhandling. He's our 3rd big, which gives us the best and deepest big man rotation in the A10. He's going to play big minutes off the bench. 18+ a game.

Principia hasn’t posted its 2025-26 roster on its website yet, but last year they had only 1 player at 6’6”, two at 6’4”, and no one else above 6’2”. We ought to out rebound this group by 40, and score over 150. What an exciting matchup for the fans.
-
I find this very thoughtful. Can a team have to many good players? If you think you are good enough to play and don’t can you be a good teammate? Can Schertz play 10 players much less the freshman and keep the team cohesive? Maybe he can convince the freshman to redshirt? This is not going to be easy but I guess it’s a good problem.
-
We could score 200 points against Principia. You'd have a better game picking fans out of the crowd.
-
Exactly. Missouri S&T would be a better option too. They would at least make it a little competitive.
-
Principia is a horrible option as an exhibition. They wouldn't beat most large area HS teams. We were kicked out of our pod at the Acrisure. We will probably be in the Minnesota, Stanford pod, but there is a chance we get kicked down even lower to one of the mid major ones. Even if we get in the better pod with Minny and Stanford this will mean ZERO Quad 1 games on our schedule. Unacceptable. Its NCAA or bust for this program and we are facing a steep uphill climb to get there.
-
No obligation, but I would love to understand the math involved in scheduling one of the worst programs in college basketball rather than Rockhurst or UMSL or another program that might keep it interesting for a quarter or two.
-
Season ticket holders should be given the option to opt out of any regular season non-D1 games at a pro-rated discount. I get it for exhibitions but it’s bull**** to be filling the regular season with non-D1s.
-
Uh, we are. Look at the schedule. While I also have no interest in watching Principia, I understand the NET math.
-
What is interesting here is that we were lead to believe our pod was Iowa, Utah, and Ole Miss. Then with the delay of the brackets from July 14 until July 21, it was speculated that some of the P4's wanted to reshuffle the deck. Could be happening. I guess we will find out in 12 days.
-
Not a D3 team! Play Lindenwood, or SIUE, or SEMO, or EIU, or WIU, or literally any other D1 team.
