I'm pretty sure Gordon is the only one, at least that writes about Mizzou, and he loves to stick his finger in the eye of Mizzou when it suits him. For those who've been around, it was Gordon who dug up dirt on Norm's Detroit connections that landed Norm in NCAA trouble in the late '80s. Gregorian similary dug through Quin's phone records to get dirt on him. Bottom line, I don't think there is any particular love for MU at the post historically. As we've learned, the post is nothing if not bandwagon jumpers. Missouri has been been getting favorable press but they are 30-4 and are a pretty compelling story. I recall when the post was singing the praises of Bruce Weber and Illinois and Chris Lowry and SIUC as well not that many hears ago - it used to drive me crazy and I know it bothered some on this board. Burwell seems to be the biggest MU supporter right now, but I attribute that to Mizzou being 30-4 and having a black coach. If Mizzou stinks next year some of the Miami dirt sticks to Haith, they will jump off the bandwagon so fast it will make your head spin. Or course, the post, like all papers, is becoming less and less relevant. I don't know that they have the budgets anymore to send hacks like Gordon or Gregorian out to do investigative journalism (I wish someone would dig through Bill Self's phone records, but it won't happen). I grew up on a house that received both the post and globe democrat on a daily basis (plus the wall street journal). Now I get the post on the weekend and I'm probably one of the few who does that. As usual, you are completely mistaken, or are spinning it back asswards, the one thing you are good at. Sure, it was liberal for all those yrs, and thats ok, but the last 5-6 or so it went way too far, it became radical-PC-far left and last 3 it pretty much became a left wing propaganda machine, especially the front page which is supposed to be "the news". Grossly misleadiing headlines on the front page, all that, throughough the paper, perfect picturess of Dems, pictures of Repubs with eyes not aligned or pursing their lips to make them look foolish, the whole nine yards. And the editoral staff there, what a joke. They know nothing of healthcare, but write articles that cause anger and confusion to the uninformed. To boot, they attack the SL Police dept at every opportunity, many times unfounded, with, of course, misleading headlines. Editorial cartoonist Matson is 99% radical far left, ridicules the GOP every time. Palin with pig snout-cheeks-lipstick. Enough. At no time did I imply that the sports dept is socialist, another mis-read and/or spin by the bizzleboy-moytoy-pistol alliance. I just point that they have intentionally minimized, even disrespected SLU and favored Missouri U for various reasons all of these years. Sure, out of habit, I kept having it delivered, drink some coffee in the am, read the sports page, but finally I decided I would not subisdize their agena, even though it is not a big expense. Ha, now they call me every 2 weeks with deals, "a couple of free months" resubscription offers. They do not get it. They are failing. Bankrupt parent company, SL staff has been decimated. Why? Try to think. (again, great food/restaurant dept... but I think they sell only 120,000 day in a 3.5M metropolitan market. Only paper in town. Yes, I know the internet rules, but...) OK, so it only takes you 5-6 years to realize that you don't want to pay for something that you can't stand? Well, at least you aren't as slow as I made you out to be initially. I can just imagine the conversation you had with the wife the last few years when the subscription renewal came in: Wife: Honey, the Post-Dispatch subscription renewal just came in...do you want to keep getting it? MB73: What?!?! That commie, pinko, leftist, socialist rag! GRRRRRR....that paper makes me soooooooo angry! I threw my coffee at the kitchen wall the other morning when I read some liberal tripe in the editorial section. I want Bill McClellan to die a horrible death! And when I went to the sports section yesterday, they didn't even have the SLU baseball scores posted. I can't stand that paper! I want to throw something now! Wife: So I should just tell them we are cancelling? Got it. MB73: When did I say to cancel it? Renew our subscription and make sure we continue to get both the daily and Sunday editions.
