After seeing MU v IL, Anyone else think we'd beat the Tigers 2 out of 3 times this year?

Recommended Posts

BUT it is irrelevant, the sissies won't play us, all that big state and federal money and TV money and a huge athletic budget and they are afraid of St. Louis U!

Don't count out the possibility of SLU meeting Mizzou in the NCAA this season. We have work to do to make the tourney but, if we get in, I like our chances of being placed in the same opening bracket as Mizzou.

 You probably haven't noticed, but the "radical left wing rag" has given us a lot of positive coverage over the last month or so. Funny how that happens when the program starts winning.

BTW, you never told us why you think Yancy Gates "singled out" Kenny Frease. Please elaborate.

Did you see the on line SL Post version? I took a peek this morning. It might have changed by now.

Sports page, big font headlines on everything, Beltran, Missour-Illinois, the Rams I think....

Then down the page a list of other articles, bullet points, we were about the 5th one, in tiny 2 font "SLU wins".

Maybe there was a nicer article in the dead tree version, but those socialists won't get my $ 550 a yr anymore, so I didn't see it.

Answer is: the same reason the 2nd guy kicked Frease while Frease was on the ground; plenty of other people to strike, but he kicks Frease.

I love how Majerus is taking his cae to the media. Some good quotes in here.

I love this beauty:

"You look at how Missouri State lied to us last year, blatantly," Majerus said. "They shook our hands and told us they were going to play and then didn't. I'll never play them until the day I die as a coach here."

You didn't answer the question. Why are you being so cowardly? Why did he single out Frease?

Did you see the rag the day after we won the Anaheim Tourney? Mizzou played that same day, but our game got much bigger play because ours was a bigger game. Certainly even you could understand that our game last night was not as big as MU-Illini. While you think the PD is a radical left wing Commie paper, it may surprise you that like most media outlets, it is first and foremost a capitalist enterprise. MU is a bigger school and the P-D can also reach more potential readers/customers in the Boonies by providing extensive coverage of Mizzou.

Agreed. We've tried for 10 years now to keep playing them. We've tried doing it behind closed doors, tried being PC about it in the media, everything. Now is the time toget the media on board with the idea since its obvious the game won't happen unless someone or something pressure MU into doing it.

The thing that surprises me is why the MU fans that hate SLU (some of the trolls that come over here and the same people that post on Tigerboard every time SLU comes up, for example) don't want this game. They have to be getting tired of casual fans asking them why the game isn't played or asking who they think would win. If those people had any confidence in their team they'd be begging for the game so that MU can wax the floor with SLU and end all the discussion  Instead, these people put out the same lame excuses about having nothing to gain and everything to lose, blah, blah blah...

The print version had a full game recap.

I wish they had more coverage too but I cant complain about the headlines yesterday.

-Mizzou vs. Illinois is one of the biggest St. Louis sporting events of the year. Its always going to be top billing if for no other reason to help keep it a bigtime event.

-The Cards still own this city, when they make a big move it will always be front page coveage.

-The Rams suck but they are still an NFL team. NFL news, even bad news about a bad team, well get higher billing than preconference CBB

-The Bills played Arkansas state.

I saw the hard copy at the gym.

I understand the dynamics, but still, we have been snubbed for a long time, and still are getting finessed. Yes, a little life this year relatively speaking.

Sure, we had a full game recap, but you failed to mention:

------MIZZOU-MIZZOU was on the HOME front page, very top.

------AND MIZZOU-MIZZOU was on the front page of the sports section huge color picture, three long articles from the usual suspects. I imagine reading one paragraph of Burwell's version would have made me sick.

------WE were on page 3, no picture. 11-1.

The Post has sucked for years and hasn't given us much love since Hughes was a Bill. Having said that, expecting us to get equal billing with the Tigers on a night like last night is just crazy. You'd have more of a case if we'd have knocked off a top 25 program but even then the "bragging rights" game is a big annual deal........

Mizzou was certainly exposed a little last night and you have to look at their schedule and say they've played 4 decent teams. Two were huge wins (Cal and ND), one was a solid win (Villanova) and one could have gone either way. The other games against crap teams in Columbia don't mean much, if anything. They aren't the dominate team they looked like just a few weeks ago.

That being said, the one thing they haven't done is have a complete crap game like the one we had at LMU. We can make all the excuses we want about being tired and on the road but losing that game does matter. Mizzou hasn't stumbled like that. Otherwise the two teams have very similar resumes.

Of course, most mizzou fans will tell you we don't even belong on the same court as them, so we'll just have to keep wondering...

Well-said.

A certain usually well-tanned man in a black suit should make it a point to contact Mizzou's new chancellor immediately to welcome him to his new job and discuss various inter-state cooperation.

What does Joe Pesci have to do with this...? ;-)

I see you continue to avoid elaborating on your assertion that Kenny Frease was "singled out" by Yancy Gates. Why was he singled out? What are you afraid of?

What, are you a little dense? And you call yourself "ACE"?

Maybe the NCAA committee will oblige us by putting Mizzou and SLU in the same bracket this year and we could find out who is the better team on the basketball court where it should be decided. From what I have seen so far this year I doubt Mizzou has faced a team who plays team defense like our Bills do.

i was laughing watching the second half of the mi$$ouri and illinois game. my gosh, the tigers might be loaded with athletes, but do they even practice any sort of an offense? i never saw so many horrible possession for a supposed top 10 team in all my life. i thought booby knight was going to stroke out after pressey threw up like his third early in the shot clock three when their lead was dwindling.

as much as i dog rickma, it has never been for his coaching and rickma would eat haith alive on the court.

illinois is just young. by year end illinois will be very good imo. it was fun to watch the guard off the bench for illinois have the big game. i was happy for him.

now as to the real two state champion, the billikens were very very good last night. the rebounding was a thing of beauty. if you looked at the two teams standing side by side, we had no business dominating the boards as they had more athletes and mores size, but man, conklin, evans, cody, jett, they have become training films for rebounding. at least last night they were.

Last night was the first time I've seen Missouri play offense like they did and I have seen evey game. In the second half they played like they did last year. But usually, their offense is a thing of beauty to watch. They usually move the ball like the Billikens do. I don't know why they went away from that last night in the second half. If they play their best and we play our best it would be a very close game.

I know it may not mean much but kenpom puts cal's defense right around the bills (SLU is 15, Cal is 16 adjusted D).

Do love that it took 12 games for the tigers to play around 7 minutes of bad basketball and as soon as that happened this thread started.

MooCow, it would figure you would show up with your Mizzou bias. It would be great to see these two schools face each other so we would not have to worry about what anyone thinks might happen (even Kenpom). I would take the Bills and the points and would laugh all the way to the bank.

Maybe that was because last night mi$$ouri played their best competition of the year. their schedule sucks. one of the worst in the country.

last night was the first time i watched mi$$ouri play this year. per rpi and sos stats, last night was the toughest competitor they have faced this year. i wasnt impressed and i believe the billikens would beat the tiger$ the majority of the time.

Cheesey, how did Cal look today against UNLV? Think their Pomeroy rating might go down a bit after that thrashing?

I get that you are one of those guys that adores everything MU but even you must admit their schedule this year is a joke. 4 decent games all season, 3 of which were in this state. I just don't understand why a team like MU that is a pre-season top 25 is so scared to play decent teams or travel outside the state. It boggles the mind.

Let's talk about Pomeroy. Tigers are 9th and SLU is 17th. There should be no excuse for this not to be settled on the court.
