Pete assumes anyone who doesn’t agree exactly with him doesn’t care...that’s a large reason there is such divisiveness in our country. Absolutely 0 tolerance for other’s views..

Not true at all, we shut down travel to China in the first 10 days to the ridicule of the democrats in our country. Italy is a poor comparison. They have a significantly older population, a large population of Chinese, and social customs that are conducive to spreading the virus.

As for Ford, I strongly believe this is a profession in which egos (and agents) and the pursuit of a big payday frequently overcome reason. Coaches leave a stable, pretty secure $1MM/year job for a $2.3MM/year job with 25x as much pressure. I'm the kind of guy that if I'm in a good, stable situation where I'm happy, have the resources and institutional support I need, and quality of life for my family, I'm not going anywhere else for any amount.
I get why guys jump at the potential of multiplying their current salary for the rest of their career, but how often does that work out? We've already discussed how many guys are safe in their power conference jobs, and it's not many. Bias aside, there's no way I'd leave a place like SLU for a program in the bottom half of a power conference.
So I hope Ford has learned that the OSUs of the world come with a lot more pressure and risk than a place like SLU, where he can keep building over the long haul, has a very supportive AD (and billionaire benefactor), has a good situation for his family, and he can keep getting a 7-figure salary extended. slu72 is right - none of us know where his head is at long-term. I just think a SLU-level program is a great place to build a long-term career and program. Few at Gonzaga is probably the best example of what's possible. It just takes time and commitment and so few (pun intended) coaches are willing to be that patient when their phone is ringing every spring.

Personally I think evaluating a coach or a team with wins in the NCAA Tournament is a bad measure.  Its a one and done tournament often coming down to one shot.  If you are a top seeded team, say 1-3 maybe 1-4 with a pretty favorable matchup, then you have a favorable matchup in the first game, but after that, anything can happen. Luck is a significant factor, even for all but the very top seeds.  Sometimes the matchup is just bad.  Sometimes a low seed will just get hot and shoot lights out from 3 point range, sometimes your best player picks up quick fouls and sometimes players just play tight under the pressure.
That said, I think Ford is building a program with teams that have the talent and versatility to matchup with top 25 teams and pick up enough wins in the regular season to get a good seed. My expectation of a coach is that he puts together a program that consistantly produces winning teams, devleolops the players that he recruits, gets to the dance and has a reasonable chance of winning. Then pray for a little luck.
If you show a coach the door, just because the team is one and done, you can end up like Oklahoma State, wondering when you will ever get back to the tournament.  You can't have a tournament run, if you aren't in the tournament.

I think Oklahoma State fans viewed thier program as an elite program and expected Travis Ford to deliver annual trips to the dance and runs to the sweet sixteen and beyond. Ford got them to the dance 5 0f 8 years and didn't get to the tournament's second weekend.
Maybe they should have rolled out the red carpet for Pitino and looked the other way.  It does not appear that elite coaches are waiting for the chance to coach there.
I think the marriage of Ford and Saint Louis is a good one.  He is a proven recruiter and the St. Louis area is producing high quality players. Billikens fans and the University want NCAA tournament teams and would love to see a team go on a run.  But we are not going to get a rope if if the stars don't all line up.
I don't think coach Ford came here for a quick hit and run. I believe he wants to prove to the college basketball world and himself that he can build a top 25 program and be successful in the tournament.

🧐  This is the 2nd time you've mentioned SLU being interested in a big.  I have a feeling there is some knowledge you're withholding from us here...

Unless a top local recruit commits to a school and then decommits randomly.  In that case you will hear Frank say he think the kid is a SLU lean but was poached by Martin (Waston/Pickett/Tilmon).  This is him decommitting because of coaching change so don't think it would apply.

Bryce Drew to Grand Canyon.  I'm so happy to have been so wrong wanting him over Travis Ford. Probably my dumbest take yet.

The only thing I’ve said on this topic is to stop making personal attacks on board members       ( which you can’t refrain from) and to stop attacking our President.  The rest is all your biased imagination!

It’s always the butt hurt liberals that start this crap... early on our President instituted a travel ban to/from China, who these same liberal bashers said was irrational and racist. I agree, political talk should stop, but it seems to be a one way street on this board.

Except for the fact that the President himself is stating things directly in conflict with what the leading world health experts are saying. That's not plain old "politics," that's just blatant ignorance at best, willful malfeasance at worst.
Ding me as well for politics talk. But DJT's response to a global pandemic has been akin to a child's. I'm equally as critical of people on the far left and the far right, but we need more common sense moderate voices in today's world.

The right wing media, Limbaugh, Hannity, et al has turned vulnerable people’s brains to mush. Such a disservice to the country. Rip me all you want but I’m right and you’re wrong.
    Rant over.
Note to board monitors: Ding me if you want for talking politics. I try to limit posts here to sports, but all the ridiculous crap that’s been posted about the coronavirus situation has pi$$ed me off. The last thing I’ll say is it’s pretty dang pathetic that there has to be a negative political spin put on everything that happens.
Sometimes things just happen and that’s the reality of it.

Tarris Reed goes for 15 & 6, and holds Davion Bradford to 5 & 7.

I need this Reed kid. Bradford will be another mediocre Stl kid for KState, more Stockard than Sneed
