Hell yes, bring him back. You want to see him end up at VCU or UD and beating us with a clutch step back jumper with 2 seconds on the clock?

His NIL definitely came with a snowmobile.

And the above doesn’t tell our whole story.

i believe retention of successful rostered players will depend on how much we pay them. if their agent says they can get more. i am betting most if not all will test the portal waters. once they do that, it is a crap shoot if they stick around. its a new ballgame. one i sure dont like. if there ever was an industry that i think we need to take a socialist view, college sports may be it. across the board salary control. this is getting crazy and i dont think it is sustainable.

That’s basically a pro contract. I like it and think it’s fair. Players want $$ like the pros, then they should agree to signing pro type term contracts. Can you imagine what pro teams would say if they shelled out millions of dollars for a player who could bolt after one year?

I would agree that our fundamentals were not very good. Board work and turnovers back you up. As far as a system on offense I think Schertz was way ahead of both Ford and Crews. I could never figure out what Ford’s half court offense was about other than hoping Yuri could find someone to dish to or get lost in the trees. At least with Schertz we got points on back doors and wide open 3’s which is what he wants as he’s shown a disdain for any mid range shots.
But you’re a little harsh in your assessment after one season. Especially where the team was decimated by injuries. Thames really hurt. Dotzler would have helped. And Casey remains a mystery, but a 6’9” top 100 recruit might have helped on D and rebounding. I did expect more offense from Johnson as that would have helped create more opportunities for our big 3. He just wasn’t aggressive enough. Go figure. Bottom line let’s wait til next season to judge Coach Schertz.

The entire school and city was on Covid lock down (whatever you think of it) he hosted a party. The team got sick. They lost. Should've been fired for cause.
See above. Also see how he acted that final year with no class. An embarrassment on the court and off.
I'd wish him well if he returned that $10m he walked away with for being a loser and took loser Chris May with him. I wish his sycophants would go back into whatever holes they crawled out of in the hills of Kentucky.

Take a deep breath until October is my advice. We don’t know squat about what the product is going to look like until then.

In light of today’s Wild West atmosphere the Dead Period seems a little silly.

slu72 reacted to billikenfan05 in Article About NIL Being Death of Tournament Cinderellas
I posted this in the departing players thread, but NIL and unlimited transfers were a product of player demands and court cases. They aren't "designed" to keep mid majors down, they were designed to bend to the players to keep the NCAA afloat as they kick the can down the road.
The NET and the Quad System were implemented directly by the NCAA, that is the change designed to keep mid majors from reaching up and challenging the P5.
I don't necessarily believe the level of play in the formerly 2-3 bid leagues has dropped that drastically in the last 3-5 years. The way they are evaluated has.
You can only control mid majors getting and retaining talent so much. But you can directly control how many teams are selected for the NCAA tournament. If mid majors aren't able to get to the tournament, that severely limits their revenue streams.

No one is disputing that transferring is a two-way street, but it's highly debatable whether the talent coming in equals the talent that leaves for P6.
It's not just NIL, free agency has played a huge role. In fact, several times, Schertz has said that was the tipping point on why it was the time to leave ISU. He knew he wouldn't be able to keep that time together and walk it back, because it was so easy for those players to leave without the obstacle of sitting out a year.
I 100% agree with you about the lack of incentive for P6 teams to play mid majors. Also, I was beating the drum about the negative impact of changing from the rpi to the NET. I have argued that there are multiple factors. I've been a bit of a chicken little, but a number of people on the board said that everything would be just fine for mid majors and that the changes would have a minimal impact. I really wish they were right, so I wouldn't have such a doom and gloom outlook about the future of mid majors.

Minnesota to Olean, NY. Probably got him with a major snow mobile upgrade.

At no point this year have Schertz's comment indicated that he was in denial about what this team was or what it was lacking. Being able to acknowledge the shortcomings and having a plan to address them is a big upgrade from Ford. He was often in denial about our team or simple at a loss on what to do about it.
That alone gives me more hope for the future with Schertz.
