Listener of the Streets (6/7)

  1. Sharma's shot looks like a thing of beauty. He never misses! I'll say it again - Green seems to have a very Swope-ian game every time I see him. He won't be counted on to carry the load the way Swope was - almost 37 mpg is crazy. My only knock on Swope was the turnovers and some of the decision making. but he could certainly create a bucket for himself or others.
  2. That is correct - that's typically the only way non-P5 teams get games like that these days. Historically, VCU has had very few home games against P5 opponents. The college basketball landscape has really changed A LOT in the last few years. I'm not sure some fans have completely absorbed it all. You now really have to look hard to find examples of P5 schools playing non P5 teams in true road games. This a challenge much bigger than SLU.
  3. That was several years ago. We also hade a home-home with Auburn. The college basketball landscape has changed a LOT since then in just the last 2-3 years.
  4. VCU does not consistently get P5 home games. The last one was three years ago against Vandy. These games have become increasingly rare over the last few years.
  5. Ha! Clueless, quoting the Northwestern playing GW WOMEN'S game. Have you found a link yet showing UVa will play at VCU?
  6. It is women's and the only reason the game is being played is because the Northwestern coach was a long-time coach at GW and he is retiring after this season, so it's a bit of a homecoming.
  7. Where do you see UVA playing at VCU?
  8. Are you talking about women’s basketball?
  9. Anya is a flawed player, of course, it's the reason he will be coming off the bench but that doesn't mean he's not valuable. Robbie played 34 mpg last year. That's too many. The year before at ISU he played 31 mpg and was a more efficient player. The presence of Anya, will allow him to get back to around 31 mpg. It will allow Robbie to be more aggressive, not be as concerned about foul trouble. Robbie had 4 or 5 fouls in 7 games last year. That shouldn't be an issue this year. There were also many times he would get an early foul or two - and then play even softer than normal defense for fear of fouling. Anya will also allow Otieno to go balls to the walls as he can get some minutes filling in at that spot as well. Schertz likes Anya's defense and rebounding - those aspects of his game will continue to be very valuable - he's also an under-rated passer btw. He played too many mpg last year due to the team's lack of depth. This year he will get a more appropriate workload.
  10. Your last point is a good one. I wouldn't be shocked if something like that happens again - like LHJr. last year. I thought the projected minutes heading into last season with the incoming transfers played out pretty much the way I expected - the injury to Dotzler, though, was the one big wildcard that we'll never know how it would have played out if he was healthy. But I have had a more difficult time projecting this year's group of incoming transfers. I sort of divide them into two groups - with Jones, Otieno and Green playing bigger roles and Brown, Dunlap and Sharma playing lesser roles. I could be completely wrong and it wouldn't shock me if one of those latter 3 plays a bigger role. I look forward to revisiting this thread about a month into the season to see how it is shaking out.
  11. I was thinking in terms of minutes per game. I don’t think Warlick makes the top 10. I really like McCottry and yes, he may be too low on my list.
  12. Sorry - yes Jones 1
  13. I like doing this for fun before every season, ranking the players based on minutes played. There is so much uncertainty with the roster, but also potential. It's really difficult to see who emerges and how they all fit in. I won't even take a shot at how many minutes each will get, but will simply rank the top 10 from most minutes to least. I think people may have some wildly different rankings.. 1) Jones 2) Robbie 3) Green 4) Otieno 5) Thames (this one could vary greatly) 6) Brown 7) Anya 8 McCottry 9 Dunlap 10 Sharma There are so many different variations the more I think about it. I can't believe I have McCottry 8th for example and then I consider moving him up. I would be curious to see what others think.
  14. We're not Louisville and Mizzou sure is hell is not UK - I don't see that happening. Both of those schools are public institutions as well, perhaps making it easier to apply pressure at the state level. A stunt like that would seem more likely between Mizzou and Mo State, but I don't see that happening either. It's just not that important.
  15. Trey Green looks Swope-ian in the way he plays.
