Former Billiken Marcus Relphorde

Recommended Posts

The young man has done well for himself. After spending his sophomore year at Indian Hills CC, he's been a fixture in the starting lineup for the Colorado Buffaloes the last 2 seasons. This year he is 3rd in scoring (behind likely 1st rd picks Alec Burks and Cory Higgins), 2nd in assists and shooting 39% from three. Here's his bio:

are you telling me Colorado will likely have 2 1st round picks?

In his 4th year of playing college basketball, Relphorde is averaging 4 rebounds and 2 assists per game in 27 minutes plus per game. His team was a Big 12 also ran with a losing record last season. We'll see where they finish up this year.

Good luck to Marcus.

Who's having fun with numbers now, Courtside? He would lead the Bills in pts and rebounds at 12 and 4.2. Colorado has won 9 of their last 10 games. They will be competetive in the Big 12.

CU - Missouri on now (at least in Denver). CU playing well early on, MR looks good. He would definitely help us (not sure anyone is really debating if he would help).

He also shoots 39.4% from beyond the arc and 49% from the field playing both forward spots in his 4th year of playing college basketball.

What is competitive in the Big 12? Top half of the league? NCAA's?

12 points and 4 boards per game, in his 4th year for Colorado in 27 plus minutes per game. And, in his 4th year, Marcus' shooting percentages are up significantly from last year, contributing similar numbers. So he is certainly more efficient this season. Good for him. It'll be interesting to see where his team finishes up this season, as well as Marcus individually, as they play the tougher part of their schedule in league play.

Colorado is up 54-38 on Missouri right now in the 2nd half.

I was kind of perplexed when RM ran off MR, but it seemed to make sense as time went on. I would love to have him on this team this year. But when things happen like they did for us, it's easy to say we should have kept him. Things like this happen and who knows he may not have all that much success under RM. It's hard to speculate. You can't just interchange numbers from one team to another. All things being equal you may be able to, but things are far from being equal.

As I said, good luck to Marcus. He is his team's 3rd and soon to be 4th best scoring option and he is his team's 4th best rebounder.

Tough offensive day for Marcus. 3 of 14 shooting in 37 minutes of action. 4th in team rebounds.

Colorado came into the game with a 131 RPI and needed the home win. They'll get several more league opportunities to improve their RPI.

I have not followed MR since he left SLU. Reading these threads only. To me, MR shows me that Brad may have landed a better than some gave him credit for. With that said, I do not lay any fault upon RM for his not being here. Just b/c someone does well at another program does not mean that RM was wrong, that RM cannot judge talent...

Again, it looks to me like MR is a nice complement to 2 fine, quality starters. Don't we already have that in KC? KC is a fine complement to WR and KM. The differece, of course, is that our 2 starters are not playing while CU's 2 starters are. If we still had MR, we would not have KC: fact. That MR would be a star or a "go to" guy for SLU b/c he is a the 3rd leading scorer on a mediocre Big XII team: speculation.

3Jack. Statements like yours: that MR would be a 15 point players here at SLU, that we should give more weight to MR's recent 10 games (out of conference games at that) b/c these games help your argument, and that CU's team accomplishments somehow reflect upon MR's personal accomplishments show that you are just plain stupid. Go away you troll.

Remember that if Relphorde stayed he would have graduated last year.

He seems like a solid player we could have used. So out of the 4 cuts Majerus missed on 1. Wasn't the issue that our coaching staff wanted him to play in the post and he wanted to be a wing? If so he has proven Majerus wrong.

Relphorde went from SLU to a year of juco to Colorado last year and again one more time this year.

He shot 34 percent from 3 as a junior and 41 percent from 2. He averaged 4 rebounds a game. His 3 average is up into the higher 30's and his 2 average is up this year. His rebounding is the same, 4.

Last year Colorado was a bottom feeder Big 12 team, below .500 team overall. He's gotten his scoring up to 12 points, on a team that has averaged over 85 points, mostly against a less than competitive non-conference schedule that had a 9 of 10 win streak team still sitting with an RPI of 130's prior to Sat's game.

This is his Senior year.

No, Relphorde was a freshman during Majerus's first year; he would be a senior at SLU this year had he stayed.

Perspective is what's needed. SLU doesn't have any Seniors. People can follow players such as Ellis, Evans, etc...others and see where they are as Seniors and see where SLU is as a team. Etc...and what role they play on what type of team.

Marcus would have helped SLU. To what extent is certainly up for debate. The 4 rebounds doesn't stand out and the 12 points doesn't stand out on a team that scores over 85 per game. Etc...and one that is not yet an NCAA team at Colorado.

This thread needs some updates on some other players...

Here's one of the last recruits from the Soderberg era averaging 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game:

http://www.siuecougars.com/sports/m-baskbl/stats/2010-2011/teamcume.html#TEAM.IND

And if you look very closely you can see a player who one poster argued should be on scholarship at SLU averaging 0.4 points per game for a D-3 school:

Whoa!!

Lisch, Daniel games: 10 Minutes per game:6.9 FG:2 FGA:20 FG%:.100

2 for 20 on the year! and 0 for 5 from three!

He would fit right in on this team

Yeah, I was going to post something on Lisch but didn't. He can't even get off the bench at this point and Fontbonne is awful this season (3-9 and lost to rival Webster 75-42 last game).
