Bay Area Billiken Posted February 16 Posted February 16 SMC wins Game 3 by mercy rule 16-3, has outscored SLU 32-4 in the last 2 mercy rule games, 36-13 so far in series. Game 4 is tomorrow morning, as SLU seeks the 2-2 series split. Quote
OkieBilliken Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 Rough start for Billiken pitching this weekend. Not surprised with the results but not encouraged by the new arms. SMC is the best team we will play all season, and they have been practicing outside for a month, so taking one game on the road is not a terrible result. They are scheduled to open the home slate this weekend. Will the field be frozen and snow covered???? This crap doesnt happen when you start the season in Florida like God intended. Just sayin.... Bay Area Billiken Posted February 17 Posted February 17 SMC outscored SLU 45-15 in the 4 game series. SLU won the first game 9-4. Yours truly attended Games 3 and 4. I actually attended a baseball-basketball (St. Mary’s vs. Washington State) “doubleheader” at SMC Saturday. SMC has upgraded its facility, has theater chair seating and a covered press box, in a permanent grandstand. Quote

The closest parking lot is in a foul ball danger zone. Like almost any ballpark, a couple of loud mouth fans were present, one providing us with pitch by pitch running commentary. He sounded like an old refugee from Candlestick Park. Quote

Zac and I were wondering this last night. How good is SMC? They're not ranked, but how close would they be? Quote

They were picked fourth in the very good West Coast Conference, one spot ahead of the Loyola Marymount, the other team we play out west. They brought back several power hitters and had a terrific recruiting class. The positives for us this weekend included great pitching by Charlie Weber. He looked terrific at times last year and really had a nice outing Friday. Hayden Moore is a stud. He seemingly gets on base every time. Also new additions catcher JT Crabb and Riley Iffrig look like they can swing it a bit. But our pitching let us down last year and the new dudes need to figure it out if we are going to make a run. I was impressed with the SLU CF (Hayden Moore), 2B (Ethan Sitzman), and C (J.T. Crabb). LF Hank Gomric had 2 hits Sunday. St. Mary's was impressive at the plate. SMC hit 3 HR's in Sunday's Game 4. SMC scored in all 6 innings in Saturday's Game 3 and in 4 of its 5 innings in Sunday's Game 4. The freshman starting pitcher for SMC on Sunday is from Serra High School in San Mateo, the same high school that produced Barry Bonds and Tom Brady. Quote
DirtyRican Posted February 18 Posted February 18 ESPN+ is the greatest thing ever for college baseball fans. Watched every game and a ton of others over the weekend. Rough start but hard to open against a team that has been outside for so much longer. They will be fine. Pistol 1 Quote

Got to see games at UNF and UCF this weekend while keeping up with the Bills. Going to see #3 Florida at JU tonight. Hoping they somehow move the SLU games this weekend somewhere south so that I can make a road trip to. They have done that before. DirtyRican 1 Quote

OkieBilliken Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 Well I was correct. According to the UNA website, the SLU series with North Alabama has been moved to Pearl, MS for a DH Saturday and a single game Sunday. I assume they will be playing at Trustmark Park which was home of the AA Mississippi Braves who have now relocated to Columbus, GA. I now have weekend plans. UNA won their series with Army this weekend and dropped a 6-2 game at Auburn last night. No news on SLU twitter yet. Pistol and DirtyRican 2 Quote

The only 2 things they could have done with the weather in St Louis was to cancel the games entirely, or move them to a warmer place. Sanity has prevailed. Quote
OkieBilliken Posted February 22 Author Posted February 22 Well I can’t make it to Mississippi to see the Bills but can watch a little A10 baseball. F Dayton. Go Gators! Quote

I was walking over to the Memorial Auditorium to catch Ole Miss-Vandy game yesterday afternoon. Right by the arena is Vandy's baseball field (very nice) and walking into the arena you can get nice view of the baseball field. They were playing St Mary's and #15 Vandy were disposing them. Talking to some Vandy fans at the game they seemed very confident this baseball team is College World Series bound. Quote

Before the construction there you had to walk through the basketball arena to get to the left field stands for baseball. You literally walk on the court which was pretty cool. OkieBilliken Posted February 26 Author Posted February 26 Nice win for the Bills yesterday in Edwardsville. Zero earned runs allowed made me very happy. We play Southern Indiana in Evansville today before heading back to California. I was flipping through some Spring Training games yesterday and was shocked to see Pat Clohisy got an at bat in a Spring Training game for Atlanta. 8 months ago wearing a SLU jersey and now sporting an Atlanta Braves uniform. Very very cool. Not sure if he will start the season at High A or AA this year. Pistol 1 Quote
OkieBilliken Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 After taking 2 of 3 at Loyola Marymount, the Bills are about to play Missouri State in Springfield. I hope Charlie Spoonhour pitches for them today. Former SLU top starter Jackson Holmes is 1-2 for them with a 6.00 ERA. His last outing he pitched very well. We are finally scheduled to play our home opener tomorrow vs Southern Indiana. It will probably rain. Quote
