I remember her last year in street clothes or sweats, and I thought she was red-shirting or just had to sit out. Looking at her bio, she played in 11 games last year after recovering from some injury. i must have blinked as I don't remember her playing at all. So this year, as a grad student, she sat on the bench and again I don't remember her getting in any games. Was she just injured again all year? (If so, I'd guess she could play again but doesn't want to as she was honored on Senior Night.) Any insight from someone who paid more attention than I did? There was a meet and greet back in Nov, and I was able to talk to Jimmy Colloton, and he mentioned that Nafatoumata Haidara had injured her knee, they hoped she would get into some games in January, but that obviously didn’t happen. Also, she was on track to graduate, and was going back to Mali with a degree at the end of the year regardless of if she played or not. Obviously Kyla McMakin and Julia Martinez are the starters we need to replace, and Camree Clegg contributed off the bench, primarily as a 3 pt specialist. Most interesting of the freshmen to me is Mia Bergstrom (St Viator in Arlington Heights, IL), who led all Illinois high school players by a large amount in terms of 3 point shots made. Shun’teria Anumele (Royal HS in Brookshire, TX) has gotten good reviews, but I haven’t seen her play. Hannah Wallace (Cardinal Ritter, St Louis, MO) will be the local favorite obviously (nice to see inroads in recruiting local players). She only played 6 games as a freshman, and had to sit out her sophomore year entirely due to issues with transferring, so all those points came in her final 2 years. Lord Elrond Posted March 18 Share Posted March 18 The WBIT is a new tournament not under NCAA control that starts play this year, the WNIT continues. Teams can decide to play or not, (Miami declined to be a #1 in the WBIT, and isn’t playing in either). Between the NCAA (68 teams), WBIT (32 teams) and WNIT (48 teams), there’s 148 women’s teams competing in postseason play. From the A10, Richmond is in the NCAA, VCU, St Joseph’s, and George Mason in the WBIT, and St Louis and Duquesne in the WNIT).
