thetorch Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Our very own Rob Loe is squaring up against the world's best players (except for the US) as the starting center for New Zealand. Rob had 11 points and 9 rebounds in a 102-94 loss to Brazil in round 1. This morning he is matching up against NBA all star Nikola Vucevic and Montenegro. Good Luck to Rob & the Tall Blacks. brianstl Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 It looks like Walker is headed to the line with the US trailing 92-91 with 14 seconds to go. Quote
brianstl Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Nevermind it was a non shooting foul. Turner turns it over with 9 seconds to go. Quote
brianstl Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Middleton is actually headed to the line Quote
brianstl Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 He made both. US leads 93-92 with two seconds to go. Timeout Turkey. Quote
billikenbill Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Tatum hurt. 2 secs to go, Turkey ball, good guys up one. US helped by Turkey missing 4 straight FTs in the final 14 seconds. Good guys hang on! Quote
billikenfan05 Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I also kind of dig the unsportsmanlike foul rule. I think it would cut down on fouling up 3 which while effective is not great for the game IMO. Quote
RUBillsFan Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Rob Loe and New Zealand are 1-1 in the group stage. They lost their 1st game to Brazil 94-102 and then beat Montenegro 93-83. They need to beat Greece / Giannis Antetokounmpo on Thursday to advance to the 2nd round. The odds are not in their favor on that one. Losing that 1st game to Brazil probably sealed their fate in terms of advancing. Either way pretty cool for a former Billiken to be one of the top players on their national team at the FIBA world cup. Quote
thetorch Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 Greece lost to Brazil today. Don't underestimate Brazil. They have historically had an excellent program and may end up medaling. Greece is not that good. All they have is Giannis. New Zealand could beat them and advance. Quote
billikenfan05 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Greece leads Loe and NZ 70 - 63 with 2 to play in the 3rd. ESPN App. Quote
thetorch Posted September 8, 2019 Author Posted September 8, 2019 New Zealand is in the consolation bracket now. They blew out Japan yesterday. Rob had 10 points and 6 assists. They take on Turkey tomorrow. Turkey features Cedi Osman & Ersan Ilyasova and took the US down to the wire in their game. Tough matchup for the Tall Blacks. Loe has been impressive on the world stage. He hasn't looked out of place. Quote
SLUMedBilliken15 Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 Rob Loe scored 17 with 4 assists in a victory against Turkey today. Quote

Pretty impressive for NZ to knock off a team that took USA to OT. I believe this was the final game for Rob / NZ. They placed 19th of 32. Due to some upsets, USA (1) is looking at a tough road to the final. FIBA rankings in parenthesis, but they seem to have last been updated in February so not totally accurate. They play France (3) Wednesday in the quarter finals and then either Serbia (4) or Argentina (5) in the semifinals if they advance. Then potentially final vs Spain (2). Spain on the other hand has a much easier road to the final. Their side of the bracket features quarterfinals vs Poland (25) and a semifinal against Australia (11) or Czech Republic (24). Quote
