BleacherBum593
Majerus considering coaching job at St. Louis Combined News Services Article Last Updated: 04/23/2007 01:13:51 AM MDT Rick Majerus is considering taking a job as the head basketball coach at St. Louis University, according to an ESPN.com story that appeared over the weekend. In the report, Majerus' agent, Sandy Montag, said Majerus will decide today whether he wants the job. Majerus coached at Utah for 15 years before abruptly quitting in the middle of the 2003-2004 season. He was the USC head coach for five days in December 2004 before deciding he didn't want the job. St. Louis, an Atlantic-10 school, went 8-8 in the conference last season and the school is building an $80 million basketball stadium. SluSignGuy
I don't like hearing that there is a decision before any reports that he hasn't met with players. Do you have a link to this? (just want it for the blog)
BleacherBum593
Steve - It was in the Salt Lake Tribune. Let me find a link to it.

BleacherBum593
Don't know, but I'd keep an eye on SLU's website. (if you know what I mean)
Box and Won
Since Majerus hasn't been offered the job yet, this is him deciding whether or not he wants to coach, be it at SLU or anywhere else. If he decides he does want to coach, then Biondi will have to offer him this position.
brianstl
Majerus wouldn't meet with the players till he actually is the head coach. They will not have announced it by then, but if Majerus meets with the players he is the next coach. It will be a done deal at that point. billiken_roy
as much as i dont want lisch and liddell to leave, you cant let your players pick the coach. it will be up to majerus to re-recruit his team. i have supreme confidence that is a formality. BleacherBum593
If he wants to coach, the ball is in Father B's court then. It would be a major blunder by the SLU admin. not to go for it amd bring Majerus into the fold.
NashvilleBilliken
Completely agree. Not that I think the players should dictate who our next coach is, but Cheryl said they would meet. I know things are real foggy about last week, but if in fact Biondi went over her head, we DON'T need that to happen again a week later. A meeting was promised, so a meeting needs to happen. EastSide
This clarity is good but if he does decide he wants to coach again it must mean that SLU's chances of getting him are very good. Better than fifty percent in my mind.
DoctorB
that is the point -- Cheryl assuring us the players would meet the coach first. It would just be one more PR blunder. Of course the players would not make the decision. (Neither would Levick, it would seem.) after the many major and minor blunders of last week, we are now splitting haris, and talking very small potatoes, however. SluSignGuy
The players picked Brad almost it seemed remember. Unca Soderberg. Even if it is a formality, it must happen in my opinion.
BleacherBum593
IIRC, the players pushed for Brad to become the head coach and that was the deciding factor when Brad was hired.
billiken_roy
brad was the interim coach at the time. little different. they already knew him very well. if indeed such a promise was made that was a mistake.
Box and Won
I agree - if he decides he's ready, we need to hire him.
Four Seventeen
I would just love to go to bed tonight knowing that Rick Majerus is our new head coach...I think we would all sleep better, instead of counting sheep, er, recruits that Brad couldn't land. WE WANT RICK!
willie
For this whole dance to have gone as far as it has ,I have to believe that RM has been told that it's his job if he wants it.
Four Seventeen
I agree, Willie. The ball is in his court to sign on the dotted line.
davidnark
I agree that he has been told the job is his if he wants it; however, I also suspect that there are still details and conditions to be worked out before an offical offer and acceptance is made. slu72
Do you really think we or he would go this far, ie he's deciding if he wants the job, that these details would not have been worked out this weekend? I think the bold move to fire UB at this point indicates SLU, read Fr. Biondi, is desperate to pull off another bold move. I think whatever RM asked for he got or it was negotiated to his liking. It sounds now it's does he really want to return to coaching, and if SLU is the team he wants to coach.
SLUBALLS
I bet USC thought it was a done deal as well.
