Either Duquesne or A10T in Pittsburgh is what I want to do next year.

Pittsburgh is very cool if you stay in the downtown area between the rivers.  Duquesne is easy to get to from there.

  2. My list (I count 17):

    1. Kiel Auditorium

    2. TWA Dome

    3. St. Louis Arena

    4. Kiel/Savvis/Scottrade/Enterprise

    5. Chaifetz

    6. Sprint Center (KC)

    7. Nationwide Arena (Columbus)

    8. Hinkle Fieldhouse (Butler)

    9. Dayton Arena

    10. Siegel Center (VCU)

    11. Rose Hill Gymnasium (Fordham)

    12. Belk Arena (Davidson)

    13. Hagan Arena (St. Joe)

    14. UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse (Duquesne)

    15. Gentile Arena (Loyola Chicago)

    16. Barclay's Center (A-10 Tournament)

    17. The Pyramid in Memphis

EDIT: Sorry, I keep remembering more

Not just a flat tire.  It also broke down according to the article.  Also had no air conditioning.  Kinda bush league for your first NCAA tournament.

It had no air conditioning during the time it was broken down.  If the bus isn't running, neither is the air conditioning.   I seriously doubt they had a bus that had no AC at all.

Anyone know what Gibson's plans are? Is he hoping to continue playing ball or ready to head to the office?

I spoke with him at the Billiken Golf Classic.  He told me that he is done with basketball, despite the fact that he would definitely have opportunities if he want to keep playing.  He plans on staying in the St. Louis area and its interviewing with companies now.

I didn't see that as a "shot at SLU" as much as reporting what preservationists were saying about SLU. Their quotes and impressions about SLU are pretty fair, given the history of its expansion in Midtown. Like it or not, SLU did get rid of a significant residential neighborhood. Since then, the school has torn down a lot of buildings for surface parking lots that go mostly unused. There's nothing even remotely out of bounds said about SLU in this brief article.

It was a shot at SLU.  Journalists do this all the time.  They will use someone else's words to convey a message that the journalist wants to make so that they can say that were just reporting facts.  This was an article about a new business going into a building and the writer of the article interjected someone else's quote to make the point the writer wanted to make.  Whether we agree or disagree about the sentiment, or not, it was an intentional shot at SLU by the writer.

Yes, I'd say so. And now he has a legit shot at a national title.

I'm not saying that you would be wrong, but are you saying that teams like Dayton and SLU do not have legit shot at a national title?

  7. Key phrase from the announcement:  "The event will take place between Nov. 25-28 and feature different pods and matchups, which are still TBD."

Sounded good at first, but now seeming less and less likely we will get a power conference team.

EDIT: looks like last year it was a combination of four team mini tournaments over two days and single game individual matchups.  It lasts several days, but the participants don't stay any more than two days.  It's a lot of teams that are in and out playing either one or two games.

  8. The Sharma signing reminds me a lot of Javon Bess.  Both are about the same size.  Both were at bigger programs that would have utilized them more had they stayed.  In 32 GP at his final season at Michigan State Bess had 31 FGs.  Sharma had 30 FGs in 29 GP in his season at Virginia.  Sharma was actually a much better 3PT and FT shooter than Bess in the final big program years.

I'm hoping Sharma does the same stuff for us that Bess did.

I am a big StJohn’s fan and registered to tell you that the Billikens got a high quality ball player with Brady.

Brady shoots well; always hustles; has reasonable speed.  He was injured the majority of the past season.  Brady’s sole drawback is that he lacked the strength for rugged Big East play but will hopefully add size and strength to his game at SLU without altering his shot.

Brady is a high character individual.  He is personable.  He was liked by his teammates and after his injury acted as a bit of a cheerleader for on the bench.  Brady is the type of kid that makes you like college basketball.

i am now a St. Louis fan.

    Congratulations.

Thank you for taking the time to come on and give us your take on our newest player.

  10. At this point, I am hoping that the money we have already spent on these lower level guys moving up is part of the Casey, Dotzler, Hughes, Johnson money from last year.  I'm really hoping that all of the Jimerson and Swope money is still there for us to make a bigger splash.

His stats are fantastic, so I wanted to dig deeper.  Interestingly, Northern Illinois does not really take buy game money like some other smaller schools.  Their best games in non-conference were against DePaul and some Missouri Valley Schools (Bradley, Northern Iowa).  In those games, he scored 19, 16, & 13.  This was right about at his average, but he really did not play any sort of competition last year.

I saw this earlier today. It shows where the starting 5 of each sweet 16 team started their college career. Absolutely crazy

Purdue, Duke, and Michigan State are not bad at bringing in, developing, and keeping their own players.  Not that surprising since they've been doing it for years.  Its the other schools that stand out as just being reliant now on big pockets buying their players.

Good article about this topic.  It dives deeper than just talking about Mid Majors making and succeeding in the tournament.  Big discussion about how far fewer players are dropping down from power conference schools to mid majors in the past two years.

The article mentions that this year is the 1st time since 1975 that all of the Sweet 16 teams are from power conferences.

  14. Is this a SLU thing, or do other A-10 schools experience this level of departure each year?  If it is similar to what other A-10 schools are seeing then it may just be the new reality that we live it.  If it is unusual for the A-10, then we probably have a problem.
