  1. SLU plays (ed) Xavier, Temple and Rhode Island at home this year. Does that mean they are on the road next year? We beat URI, played Xavier close and who knows with Temple. Those, with Dayton, are the better teams in the A10. To get them all on the road next year would be tough, though the team should be improved. There is still a ton of ball to be played and winning the tourney outright is not at all out of the question, so this shouldn't be looked upon as a 'let's pack it in' post.
  2. Coach Dale: There's a tradition in tournament play to not talk about the next step until you've climbed the one in front of you. I'm sure going to the State finals is beyond your wildest dreams, so let's just keep it right there. Forget about the crowds, the size of the school, their fancy uniforms, and remember what got you here. Focus on the fundamentals that we've gone over time and time again. And most important, don't get caught up thinking about winning or loosing this game. If you put your effort and concentration into playing to your potential, to be the best that you can be, I don't care what the scoreboard says at the end of the game, in my book we're gonna be winners! Change of few of the words and the same speech could be given by the Majerus.
  3. Coaching continuity also helps mid-major conferences/teams. The MVC has seen that happen in the downside the past few years. Mid-majors need coaches who sell themselves and a new hire is definitely a crap shoot. The school wants to go young to get the continuity over a few years, but the young coaches are unproven so. . .
  4. As Fordham grad, '91, it would be tough to expand. The parking lot is used by commuter students and it would be a hardship for them. Parking passes are given by class and there aren't enough to go around. Jack Coffee is the football field, I am not sure what layout you are looking at. Even so, Fordham would like to be more a national school with fewer commuters, but that means more dorms. Off campus housing is limited as parents aren't entirely keen on having their children walk the Bronx at night. Four years of guaranteed on campus housing is an appeal that my parents saw. While Fordham does have a 12? story dorm, I don't know if it wants another one. The biggest stumbling block is focus, not surprisingly. The Manhattan footprint is expanding. The law and business schools are very highly ranked (due in part to, in my opinion, salaries commanded by the New York labor market, not tremendous schooling). They tried to go 'big time' with Bob Hill as head coach and that failed, pretty badly. The same AD, Frank McLaughlin, has been there for at least 20 years, so he seems pretty protected. I don't have answers, just providing a little background. The above is a little stream of consciousness, my apologies.
  5. I think Mizzou is comparable to a Michigan State, lower tier for sure. The only perceived candidate out there with true Big 10 academic credentials is Rutgers. And with their new stadium, they may make a good candidate to get into the NYC media market. New York is pro town, with not much college football enthusiasm. Even further off topic, why isn't Mizzou as good of a school as Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana?
