Goodwin’s season ended last night with the Lakers’ first round exit against MN. He was a DNP in Game 5 as Redick seemed to have hit the panic button and shortened the rotation. Lakers were ultimately exposed for not having a center.
They have until the end of June to pick up Goodwin’s $2.35M option for next season.

The $223k is what he’s made since his contract was converted to a full time deal on March 27th. Not bad for about 3 weeks of work.

If anything, I think he lost something. He may have had a chance for more minutes with the Billikens to showcase his talents.
Also firmly established himself as someone who is willing to quit on his team when things don’t go his way. I’m guessing that is a pretty big turnoff to a lot of coaches. If he would’ve transferred at semester it would’ve been a better look.

Willie was agonizingly close to being set for life. I feel for him, he must live with a lot of “what ifs”. Still made a few mil in the NBA and spent a decent chunk of his working life playing a game though. I’m a little surprised he’s still playing.

I think people on the board are minimizing the Dotzler news. He was definitely a top 7 rotation guy before all of the injuries to the team. He was slated to be a starter when McCotry was nailed to the bench and Warlick was told to redshirt. He was also a strong HS player who went to a perennial tourney team in Creighton who was top 25 his frosh year. He came to SLU to play and develop his game.
Unless the injury is horrific, in which case it's unethical to run him out, I'd bet almost 100% that it was his choice to leave. And it reflects negatively on Schertz that Dotzler is leaving. Dotzler is precisely the kind of talent that should come here and develop.
Casey looked incredibly unathletic in every appearance and it appears unlikely he makes an impact anywhere below low-major. No surprise. Assuming Brockhoff is next.
I personally like Schertz but I think his job is on the line over the next month. If he can't bring in talent now, he never will. And if he can't convince guys to stay now, he never will.
Dotzler’s market value is at an all time low. He basically hasn’t played in 2 years and is coming off of a major injury. Schertz and staff have more insight into his pre-injury ceiling and the details of his injury than essentially anyone else. If SLU thought he was an important piece for next year they in theory should be able to get him to return without much of a financial commitment. Most likely scenarios point to either non renewal or very low renewal offer and Dotzler realizes he should test the waters/go somewhere for personal reasons if he’s not getting paid either way. Neither scenario gives me any pause.
Also, this is pro sports now. If Schertz is paying someone who is too injured to contribute, he should be fired on the spot.

Would they pull the trigger? They were pretty patient with Travis Ford.
Huh? Ford started at rock bottom, showed significant improvement his second year, and made the tournament his third year. He then followed that with two top 50ish teams. His downfall was ultimately the failure to win the big games with those teams and sustain the recruiting level in the NIL era.

Lol hating on DePaul and butler only to lose to Arkansas state. Only in SLU land. We got the powerhouses of Sanford, kent state, csun(?), Jacksonville State in the Not In Tournament.
100% the wrong choice. But up to players and coaches to decide so whatever.
This is where the adults in the room are supposed to step in and say “this is what is happening, be ready in Vegas on 03/xx/25 and as soon as the seasons over you can gamble/drink/strip club your @s$ off
instead, we’ll end up with post dispatch headline of “SLU clobbered by Ark St to end season”

Not great, but as a consolation tournament, the CBC field is definitely not as pathetic as the NIT field. SLU should have wanted to play in the better field with a chance to make a run and beat better competition.
CBC has more high Pomeroy and NET ranked teams in it, and looking at the top 12 teams in each tournament, CBC is clearly the tougher bracket.
Yeah. Playing name schools also matters. Instead we are probably going to go lose a road game at Arkansas St. would much rather play in Vegas against a P4 bottom feeder.

JJ Redick LOVES him some Jordan Goodwin. JGood got his second consecutive start today because LA has had some guys out with injury. After the game, JJ called out Goodwin as being “incredible” despite his box score of 2 pts, 4 fouls.
If anyone else is like me and is getting somewhat disillusioned by the Billikens seemingly being stuck at mediocrity and the state of college basketball in general, I highly encourage you to check out the Lakers. They are on TV frequently and Goodwin has become a key piece for them.

Assuming we retain the other guys we have (Avila has already committed to coming back), we have a solid stable of role players and that’s about it. Schertz is going to have to hit some home runs in the portal. Should be an interesting offseason…
Yep. This is why I’m a bit confused when some on here say that this season is Schertz’s “floor”. Hope so, but it seems like we’re starting over again.

SLU is 106 in Pomeroy, Drake 52. Would SLU possibly have moved up to Drake territory had Thames remained healthy?
CJS & team deserve credit for the turnaround since the Grand Canyon game.
They’d get more credit if the turnaround wasn’t from terrible to slightly better than mediocre.
I think Schertz can pan out long term, but in year one McCollum appears to have been a much better hire.

Anyone catch the Lakers/Celtics game last night? Goodwin and Tatum did NOT appear to be the best of friends.
I’m not aware of them being special buddies off the court, but with the number of times Tatum visited SLU during the Goodwin years and both of them being proud St. Louisan’s, I would assume they’d have some kind of relationship. There was some arm slapping and chippiness between the two at a few points during the game.
I only noticed one incident where they appeared to be having words, but agree was surprised as well and assumed they were likely buddies. Guess not lol.
Gooodwin started off the game very well with a couple of threes. He’s in the rotation and getting first quarter minutes when healthy. He was one of three players with a positive plus minus in a 10 point loss. However, I think it was in the third quarter, he had the worst sequence of probably anyone all night with a bad turnover then a bricked layup off of a great pass from LeBron.
Supposedly he’s a lock for the playoff roster. Hopefully he keeps playing well and gets a multi year deal.

I have seen nothing this year that gives me any optimism that we will be better next year. So far, Schertz has been pretty disappointing. The team fights and doesn’t quit, but haven’t really gotten any better since Avila came back from injury. Next year will be Avila and a bunch of new guys. Who knows. Hope Chaifetz can buy some portal studs but this year with 3 all-conference players was supposed to be the year SLU gets back “on the map”.

I said from the first day ford was a billiken, "he's not a good floor and practice coach, but he's a hell of a recruiter." this current happening is bearing that out. and had he not refused to resign the year before last, our whales would have probably bucked up more for free agency both last year and the year before and we'd be ahead in our rebuilding process from where we are now.
it's always been a five year project to rebuild when a new coach comes in. the fact that schertz imo is ahead of ford's last year this year is a good sign and it might not take us five year. schertz how has had a good helping of A10 vs MVC and surely realizes he has a flawed roster and now can go into free agency with a better idea of what he needs to buy and hopefully our whales are prepared to give him the resources to cover the holes. im optimistic. not much for this year but for the future.
I don’t understand this and I’m not calling you out specifically Roy as this rebuild sentiment is something I’ve seen from several posters who are giving JS a pass this year. There are no lengthy rebuilds anymore. An entire roster can be turned over in one offseason whether the team is good, bad, or ugly. This year is an epic disappointment and if we see more of the same next year I don’t see the point in hanging on with this program any longer. That would most certainly be the end of my almost 20 years of season tickets.

This is just 2 bad teams going at it. Barely watchable

Sure, trash talking at a sporting event, but if it's antagonistic, threatening, very personal, don't be surprised if a family member is going to respond,
What could have possibly been said that would warrant leaving your seat, walking several rows away, and starting a physical confrontation? Weird that you appear to be defending this behavior.

Idk if it was his mom or not but it was 100% started by an adult female member of his family. She left her seat and went back a few rows to confront someone. It was on from there as several other people quickly got involved. I was pretty close to it.

Looks no different than many TFord road games. Where is the vaunted Schertz offensive lol
-
We’ve never won there so I can’t really get upset that it didn’t happen this time. The only goal at this point is getting top 4 seed. This team can be pretty good if they solve the rebounding and turnovers. Win at Richmond and keep improving and we’re right on track.

I sorta saw this coming when he was waived last season and no one picked up his minimum salary deal. Sure hoping he can play his way into another contract.
