slu72 got a reaction from billiken_roy in Porter Moser
If Porter fails at OU, which has bucketfuls of resources, what makes us think he would be wildly successful at SLU or in a return to Loyola? At Loyola he kept his teams playing together for 3-4 years and that’s almost impossible to do these days.

‘22-23 cured me of expecting great things from my old Alma Mater, so I’m not looking for a bridge to leap from. Yeah, it’s frustrating to watch this team give away games with their endless stupid TO’s, but I’ve come to accept it. The real problem is our ranks are too thin. The cavalry ain’t coming off the bench to give us a bolt of lightning. So, we’re wearing the starters down and our tank is on E. I was holding on to the hope that maybe DC could be ours for the taking, but with 5 starters and fill in the blanks it’s a fading hope. No knock on our FR but they are FR after all is said and done. Of course we’ll all watch this play out to its disappointing conclusion, because that is what we do season after season after season. Soon enough we will turn our attention to the portal season and hope our coffers are deep enough for Schertz to restock the stables with new blood that fits his system and can stay healthy. We all should pray for Kellen Thames that his health issue is resolved not just for our viewing pleasure but for the young man’s well being as he ages. And remember our battle cry, It’s damn hard being a Billiken fan.

So is Kobe, and he’s played really well. So we return 2 starters and a bunch of question marks. We are going to need the portal if we’re to compete against UD, VCU, et al. Needless to say there will be a learning curve for new additions. In bygone days, pre portal & NIL, you could consider us in rebuild mold, but today it’s reload mode and hope for the best. I don’t know enough about any of our FR to judge whether they will help. As for Warlick and McCottry neither will be considered all A 10 candidates. Both have shown flashes but that’s all. And how much will our walking wounded contribute? Too many unknowns at this point, so we’re gonna need to go swimming or fishing in the portal pool.

Our big 3 in the last few games has been Swope, Kobe, and Gibby. Anya has also played well. What’s been hurting us is Robbie’s slump. Too many TOs, taking very few 3s, and not aggressive on the boards. Hopefully he and Schertz have had a come to Jesus meeting and he returns to form. What he may lack in athleticism he makes up with smarts. So, here’s hoping his brain fog has lifted.

I think we should lighten up on Robbie. No doubt he’s in a funk/slump, but to say he’s just not up to A10 level is wrong. He had some solid confidence games prior to this 3 game stretch. Someone mentioned a knee problem but I haven’t heard this before. I will say his play has been very lackluster with too many TOs, missed and blocked bunnies, and his 3 shot attempts are AWOL. Also he’s become prone to fouling. Still, his skills are in there. He had no problem against higher level talent in last years NIT, so he is not overmatched by the A10. Hopefully, he snaps out of his doldrums and shuts us up about benching him. We need him.

Don’t discount Slick Rick. He got UL out CUSA into the Beast then got them into the ACC. As I said, if the Beast and ACC merge I can’t see an opening for us.

slu72 got a reaction from CenHudDude in Pitino argues for Beast expansion
Just read in the NY Post that Rick Pitino is behind Beast expansion. He wants a super BB conference and said SLU and Dayton should be added. He also said he’d like to see the Beast and the ACC merge. Not sure how all that comes together and still include us and UD as that would be a boatload of teams. Coach K also supports the merger idea. I’d link the article but am tech challenged. Every time I try I screw it up. The article is in Todays NY Post. By the way the Beast contract got extended by Fox, NBC, TBS for $80mm. That’s a far cry from SEC’s $300mm and Big10’s $1B a year.

Dayton threw away a win In the first game because of bad shot selection. I hope we are not going to emulate them. Bills are only ranked in the middle of all teams in 3Pt %. It is not the “go to” shot.
