    slu72 got a reaction from 3star_recruit in 2021-2022 Season
I look at Larry Brown as a move by the Memphis powers to be a mentor to Penny with the goal being to keep Penny, a local favorite, while at the same time keeping the fan base happy. No doubting Penny's recruiting abilities. He's right up there with the worst of them; Calipari, Pearl, et al. But getting premium talent is not enough to get the job done. You have to be able to coach it as well. Brown will bring that talent to fruition, while at the same time tutoring Penny in the finer points of coaching. I view Brown as more of a consultant than an assistant coach. He's old enough that a HC position is not his goal at this point. That should ease Penny's mind so he's not looking over his shoulder wondering if his replacement is sitting next to him on the bench. Memphis wants Penny to succeed as he is a favorite son type coach and firing him would be a bad optic. They're gonna give him everything he needs to make Messphis a big time power.

Time to refresh the Yurimania craze, I guess. When I read where he walked to the tunnel for the back thing I started worrying about the whole season going down the toilet. He has been a little injury prone. We definitely cannot lose Yurimania.

slu72 got a reaction from Adman in 2021-2022 Season
A core group that got major minutes last year: Yurimania, Linssen, TJ, Fred, Jimerson. Plus two starters from D1 programs who both averaged double figures and a 4 star big from a P5 top program. And a top 50 FR. I’d say there’s enough material to put together a solid season. Not going to discount the loss of Perk, it’s gonna hurt, but as the season progresses my guess is this group will excel.

Those who lived in St L for the Spoon years know better than I, but ,besides winning , Charlie’s down home humor and love of all thing Cardinals, which he expressed often on his KMOX show,  was also a factor in the impressive attendance figures. I used to catch his show occasionally  in Ohio, and he was a fun listen. I recall one night where he and Karaker spent about 90% of the show how his love for the Cards originated when he was growing up in backwoods Arkansas. Charley was a good coach, but a good huckster as well. We never should have lost him. Had he been kept happy he likely would have got the program to X’s level of consistency.

ND and Cuse giving up FB and the ACC is a total pipe dream. Is the Beast $$$ anywhere near the $$$ level of  the ACC? Doubtful. And ND football as an independent isn’t as big a draw as it used to be. Beast fans are dreaming on this one.
Zaga hoops is the big frog in a little pond that virtually assures  them a permanent annual tourney invite. They would risk this in the Beast. Although, they would be very competitive as long as Few sticks around. I don’t see it, but I never expected to see Joe Biden get elected as President either. We’ll see.

For sure. It’s gonna be a challenge to keep all this talent happy. Although, as long as they win it makes it somewhat easier. If they lose, you have to expect some griping and dissension.

One thought on this team. We seem to have an abundance of talent, albeit unproven and we’re all guilty of over hype during preseason practices. See Vashon Newburn for proof. But, if this talent is real, I think Travis is going to have to take a page out of FL State’s book and spread around the minutes just keep players involved in the team before me theme.

I know it’s an exhibition but Jordan was essentially playing the Bradley Beal role for them down the stretch.  Only judging from this highlight video.

iso ball for Goodwin in an NBA uniform is something I never thought I’d see.  His offense looks wildly improved from when he left SLU.  I’m rooting for him so hard

Two videos two high lights. One on defense and now one on offense on a great steal and assist by Yurimania. Both videos show that Jordan can really touch the sky. I’d be surprise if he doesn’t start. Not sure if his stuff of Linssen was a goal tend or legit block, but it was impressive he was even there to attempt a block.
in the video on FB of him and Yurimania, it appeared the projected starters were in grey;  Perkins, Yurimania, Nesbitt, Fred, and, I assume Okoro. Totally a way too early assumption on my part, but they were the grey unit. In any event it was a beautiful play to see.

slu72 got a reaction from Zink in O.T. Conference Shuffle ( OU and Texas inquire about joining SEC)
I always felt X wouldn’t want DU as a BE competitor, but there’s a day coming where AD expenses are going to come into play with the smaller conferences. And the BE is a smaller conference. They may have the prestige of the P5s, but they will never be a P5 w/o football revenues. It would make a lot of sense for them to expand in the interests of their MW members to form a 2 div conference. Adding 3 more MW schools to the mix would achieve this and allow all member schools to reduce the expenses for their non revenue sports. Adding DU, WSU, and SLU would solve these expense issues, plus give them a bigger footprint in major MW markets.
