I have reached billiken_roy levels of posting (7/7)

  1. If this was true wouldn’t you think one or more of those players would’ve pulled up stakes and opted for an immediate transfer? Not sure what transfer rule would have prevented a transfer prior to the season, but this rumour was posted a month ago. Plenty of time for the player to say ciao.
  2. Just goes to prove it’s still hard being a Bills fan , if this is true.
  3. It’s summer school. Besides the Student Athlete idea is now Athlete Student.
  4. And we’re undefeated in FB since 1949! We could also hang an Exorcism Championship banner. I don’t know of any other school fielding an Exorcist team. After all, they beat the Devil. It doesn’t get any bigger than that.
  5. Don’t forget competition for enrollments. They compete for the same HS student base that want to attend a Catholic U. X can boast they’re one of Ohio’s 3 big time BB schools and UD’s just a mid. Using hoops as a marketing tool is not to be underrated. I wish SLU had grasped this concept back in the 70’s. UD’s advantage over us is they are truly that city’s only major sport. We’ve got competition. We got it rolling during the Spoon era as he drew in the community with his down home persona and winning. Unfortunately we failed to capitalize by recognizing his popularity and keeping him around. We tend to shout ourselves in the foot when it comes to hoops.
  6. Will TV be the same this year as in the past; ie most games on ESPN+ , a few on ESPNU and 2. A few on CBSSN and USA? I believe for the two games at our MTE one is on CBSSN and the second on TRU TV. Also, we had a couple of games last year on Peacock.
  7. I think the 144 site/list is kind of a crap shoot at this point. Yes it maybe fairly easy to tab the top 25-30 teams given most will be P5 ers with limited turnover and top portal pickups, but outside of those teams it’s impossible to get a fair assessment of the rest of the top 100. Right now we’ll be listed behind Loyola, UD, and VCU in the A10. I have no clue if this is reasonable or not. What I’d like to see is an assessment by folks that really study the makeup of A10 teams. Guys like Taj Mahal 79, the Wiz, and some A10 gurus. For example, St Joes, I believe, had little roster turnover yet they came in behind MASON and GW. VCU’s got a new coach and didn’t UD lose a lot of their stalwarts? Seems a stretch just to assume they’ll be there when the dust settles just because that’s the way it’s been the last 5 years or so. While it’s fine to get this list I wouldn’t put too much stock into it.
  8. The deal with the Charleston Inv is that one of the two P5’s and CofC host it once every 3 years. It’s run by the Shriners. Always well attended.
  9. And SLU comes in at 78. 4th in A10. Good enough for an NIT bid.
  10. One MTE model that surprises me is the Charleston Invitational. It’s played at CofC’s arena which seats only 4500 or so. The field is typically stocked with 4 good P5 teams and 4 good mids. Nova, UConn. UNC have all played in it. And typical to get a top SEC school. Maybe it’s just that Charleston is a prime tourist destination but I’m still surprised at the high level teams they draw. It’s run by the Shriners so you’d think B’roy could swing his weight around and get the Bills an invite. It normally brings in an A10 team every year also.
  11. This is a guy I’m fairly excited to see as a Billiken. You don’t get 17mpg under Pitino unless you can play the game. I guess the question is how he’s recovered from his injuries. Any reports on his play in the 2 open practices? Many have posted their projected rotations, and he always seems to be listed as somewhere around 8 or 3rd off the bench. I was hoping he was a projected starter or at least a 6th man.
  12. Tk you. I’d agree we got effed. But beggars can’t be choosers at this stage. We’re definitely paying the price these days for all those years we kept shooting ourselves in the foot.
  13. I’m confused as to what the MTE reneged on. Please explain. I agree the schedule is pretty much garbage but in today’s world not a surprise.
  14. That’s great news. But all schools, save for the ivies and other top 50 or so are going to be facing enrollment problems. Time for colleges to think outside the box in their course offerings. AI is going to slam opportunities in many traditional fields of endeavor. It’s a bit scary to think about it.
  15. Just that sizable roster turnover is to be expected every season for every team. I like depth as you need it over a 6 month season. But today it’s virtually impossible to keep every player in a 10 man rotation happy enough to stick around for the long term.
