D1 Baseball came out with their A-10 Season Preview today, and SLU is projected #1 overall and the only NCAA tournament team (traditional 1 bid league).

Here's Clohisy and an unhappy catcher... :)

For those of you who don’t follow SLU baseball, this is AMAZING!   We were always strong in the A10 but when mid-Atlantic powers were added to the conference, it became a lot more competitive.   For those of you who live in the metro, GO SEE THEM PLAY! Won’t cost you anything.   Coach Hendrickson and the boys deserves some support.

14-1 and still going in the 3rd.

St Thomas starter is finally taken behind the dugout and put out of his misery after throwing 200 pitches.

St Thomas pitching change… that reliever was also taken out back and mercifully put down after 150 pitches.

18-3 in top of the 5th.

Door Dash delivers a Total Wine bag to St Thomas dugout.

Is there a mercy rule in college baseball?

Crazy first day at the Snowbird Classic.  Very very long day.  I drove from Jacksonville 5 hours to get here.  Incredible offense, very spotty pitching.   Two nice wins.   Hayden Moore is blossoming into an absolute stud lead off hitter.   Freshman 3rd baseman Graham Mastros was phenomenal for his first couple of games.   But just about everybody hit.  Everything else about the tournament was pretty substandard.   The public address announcing was awful.   (The doddering old man at the second game kept calling us the Salukis until our fans starting yelling at him). The scoreboard was unbelievable.  (In first game, we were winning 18-5.  the scoreboard inexplicably said 18-9.   Coach Hendrickson had to come over and yell at them.   The scoreboard was wrong more often than correct).   The umpiring wasn’t great.  Pretty bad especially in Game 2.    The first pitch in the bottom of the first was way outside.   Moore shook his head and said “Wow”.   The umpire immediately whipped out his notebook and issued a First Warning for arguing balls and strikes.   Never seen that before.  We have one game scheduled today and tomorrow. Probably doubtful either gets in.  The state about to get hit with a deluge of rain.   If you were planning to watch the Daytona 500 tomorrow, make some secondary plans.  But it’s nice to be 2-0!!!

Lol - great review of the horrid production quality…

It was noticeable on Flo also… the whole 2nd game we were St Thomas… they had the SLU logo but called us STU for short and spelled out Saint Thomas on bigger banners.

Flo had ONE commercial they played repeatedly, and 95% of the time when they went back from commercial to showing the field there was no audio.  No audio for a long time.

On the one hand it’s nice to have games like this viewable even dysfunctionally, because this wouldn’t have been the case a few years ago, but it’s fascinating how BAD some aspects of the production were that have zero to do with technology.

No joke, the average age of the tournament officials here was about 89.   The live stats were also horrible.   For the second game it still says we only scored 11 runs.   Hopefully Memphis will be better next weekend.

Snow cover helps the sod take root, right? Oh, no it doesn’t…,

Actually, the snow cover is not a bad thing.  It is protecting the grass by insulating it from the bitter cold we had and when it melts it will be good water for the warm weather that is coming next week and stimulate the rooting system.  The key to stay off it until it has chance to root.

St. Thomas is currently beating Illinois State 13-8 in the 7th inning.  We play St. Thomas next.   It’s still partly cloudy so we may be able to play today, unless this games lasts forever, which it might.
