jimbofive
-i fear jimbo is dead, or he has given up hitting the softballs being thrown here the rumors of my death have been greatly over-flatulated. just usually not around on the weekends as i'm out a rippin' and a tearin' with the wild wimmin. however, in the name of sport, i'd have definitely thrown out some ***** references in regards to the aforementioned feline sighting. that's a gimme. still, i'd have probably found a way to make do w/ that room. as i am currently wearing a pink, sleeveless unicorn t-shirt and have goose sh!t all over my feet. my response to our selection and initial tourney foes was, "oh, we'll beat them. michigan state? right on. they're the shittiest #1." time for the bills to let their dicks swing... mccarthyirish7
I wanted to reply after reading some of the discussion here. I am a father of a SLU student who is finishing up this May. I have enjoyed my many trips to St. Louis to visit and attend Billiken games and have enjoyed reading this site to keep up on the Billikens from long-distance. (THANKS especially for posting game streaming information) I have also lived in Columbus for 30 years. First of all, welcome to everyone coming to town this weekend. I really think you will enjoy the town. Secondly, DON'T stay at the Knights Inn at 70 and West Broad Street. Calling that hotel "downtown is a stretch". .. If you want to save some hotel bucks by avoiding the true downtown hotels, it is a better bet to go north or northwest. (Hilliard, Dublin, Campus, Worthington) Columbus is a pretty easy town to get around in if you have a car. Unfortunately, our public transportation is almost non-existant. Cabs are beginning to become more prevalent. Someone asked about the Crowne Plaza. . it is downtown and is a nice property and is an easy walk to the games. There is also a Drury Inn close by. The Arena District is a great area with a lot of bar/restaurants, but also noteworthy is an area called the Short North (from the Arena, go east to High Street and then North on High toward the Arches. It is an easy walk from the Arena District and full of Bars, unique restaurants, shops, etc. north of there is OSU campus which is worth a look if you haven't seen Ohio Stadium, etc. We also have an area south of downtown (little too far to walk) called German Village which will remind folks of Soulard. Brick streets and lots of restaurants and bars. Hope this helps some of you out and GO BILLIKENS!! Great to hear from you OHBillikenDad, and glad to have you posting! I have a back-up room reserved at the Drury if my other plans don't work out. Thanks for the advice on the area. I have never been to Columbus, but am looking forward to the trip this weekend! I'm sure you were pretty excited to see that the Billikens landed in your home town. Did you get an extra cheer in there when you found that out yesterday evening? Are you going to make the Friday night game? I'm thinking a lot of us should try to meet up in the afternoon for some food and beers. Where is a good place to meet? I currently have 2 reservations, 1 at the Holiday Inn Capital Square just over a mile from the arena, and another at the Courtyard by Marriott less than a half a mile from the arena. The Holiday Inn is $40-50 a night cheaper than the Courtyard. Is there any reason to not stay at the Holiday Inn under those circumstances? Thanks! Bay Area Billiken
Does anyone know what the game time is Sunday when SLU plays Michigan State? (Yes, we are going to win Friday against Memphis- think positive.) Flying from 3 time zones away, getting the flights are my first concern. I haven't found the Sunday game times as of earlier today. I need to know if I can fly back Sunday night or if I have to fly back Monday. Then we'll be doing this all again for the following weekend in Phoenix!!! I'm told this arena in Columbus is similar to Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

It is about an 8-block walk to German Village, though, so you would be closer to that area.

Very excited just to see that Billikens were in. Coming to Columbus is even better as I purchased tickets back in the winter when the NCAA put them on sale. I don't think my daughter can make it on Friday since she is starting a clinical rotation this week so the Bills need to win to get to Sunday when she can get to town. I have to be back in school in Carbondale Monday morning, and while I can make the 7 hour drive, the 7 pm flight from Columbus to STL might get me back sooner. The problem is that if we are the late game Sunday, it might not work out. Probably will end up driving, but figure I'd look into the flight situation. I'm assuming our bracket will be playing the 2nd Game on Sunday since we are the evening bracket Friday. But I don't know for sure. In Atlanta in '98, SLU played the first game Sunday, but also had been in the 2nd afternoon session game on Friday. So we had to leave for the Airport in the middle of the 2nd game on Sunday. jbizzle09
I was a little nervous about waiting on tickets as they were starting to go quickly on StubHub and other locations. I went ahead and bought tickets for Session 2 and we are in Section 107. With shipping and service fees on StubHub, it came to a little over $200 for the pair. You migth be able to get some cheaper, but it wasn't looking promising on StubHub, ebay, etc. When SLU wins (not if) I figure we'll be able to get tix off the street or at the box office for the Sunday game. As for the Knights Inn, it looks like I am pretty much fuoked. It was cheaper to prepay for the room thru Expedia so I went ahead and booked it for Thursday and Friday nights and paid upfront. Of course, it is non-refundable. So, looks like I'll definitely have some stories to relay on this board when we get back!

Good luck with the hotel. . it is probably home to a lot of long-term residents. I wonder if you complain to Expedia based on Trip Advisor comments, etc. if they would refund you. It is on West Broad Street, so you can go east on Broad to get to downtown (5 minutes)The west side of town is not a place you go for much although the far west side will be home to Columbus' first casino in the fall. kwyjibo
Tom responded that nothing will be known until after the Friday games. That is all correct. The time slots have been announced though and there will be only two games before 5pm (this seems different than other years). SLU could be an "early game" and still tip off at 6pm (although I am guessing this will be Omaha). There will be games at Noon and 2:30pm eastern but the other 6 games are later. 3 of the 4 Sunday sites are Eastern time so Columbus "could be" the afternoon site, you also cannot bank on it. This is the 2nd year now where they are spreading out more of the 2nd round games into late on Sunday and its primarily a result of the new t.v. deal with TBS/TNT and no longer needing to be off the air by 6 PM CT for 60 minutes. Its certainly good for causal fans watching on t.v. as Sunday evening is good t.v. watching time, but it sucks for people travelling to sites who want to be at work on Monday morning.
