Condolences for the family.
Reality check for everyone else.
Awful awful awful news, but if nothing else hug your loved ones and appreciate what you have, here and now. Tomorrow is promised to no one.

Did this just happen? I googled it and found nothing.
I was not much aware of Ekker's post SLU career moves. Would have thought he be coaching at some nowheresville community college or selling Kias at a dealership in Ocala, Florida. Quite the contrary. Reading some of the clippings Ekker had a pretty active post-SLU basketball career. Coached at several Continental and USBL clubs. Was a advisor and assistant coach with the Magic. Opened a basketball school with branches in China. Also wrote several books on his coaching philosphy.
In fairness to Ekker, I wonder if he got anything in the way of administrative support.

Good point - this reminds me of the issue in MN when the Cardinals last summer had to pause and people were claiming that some of the players went to a casino there and that is how they got it. No cameras in the casino ever had any pictures of any Cardinals players having been there. Now I guess the cameras could have missed them but honestly anybody who knows about casino security knows that would be very tough to pull off.
The casino story was a smokescreen.
There were reports from individuals that Carlos Martinez was at the Wheelhouse right before they got shut down the first time for not following protocols - and this was before anyone knew who tested positive or how much it would derail the season. Wainwright was out there in PR mode dismissing the casino story - but nobody in the media ever really dug into Carlos Martinez (and others?) clubbing activities leading to the team getting infected.
Don't blame Gardner for having the audacity to call attention to it after we've never been given an adequate explanation for how the team got so infected after being so careful. At least Gardner had the sense to wait until after Selection Sunday so it would not be perhaps used against them by the committee.

I thought I qualified my statement but reading comprehension is hard I guess.
I'm not holding the first 2 years against Ford, just stating a fact that in 5 years not once has he had the team in a good spot for an at large bid.

How can you blame Ford for 19-20 lol.
They were not in line for an at-large bid in 19-20 before the pandemic hit.
I like Ford and he's had to endure a lot of BS that's out of his control. The program/roster is in a good spot heading into next year.
That said, his record is what it is. He's 0 for 5 having his team in a good spot to earn an at large bid.

Coach Ford has a great situation here: full backing of the AD and our most prominent booster, an $80 million arena and a strong recruiting base. We're one of the best mid-major jobs in basketball.
Ford is a good fit for the program and the program is a good fit for him. If/when he starts making deep NCAA runs, there will naturally be suitors from the power conferences, but he's been there and he knows how tough it is to meet the expectations year in year out. He also knows he'll basically have a job for life here should he have that kind of success.
He may one day leave but it would take a dream job opportunity. We should appreciate him, not take him for granted, but also not lose sleep over rumors/chatter about him moving/leaving.

Thanks. Interesting that many of our greatest players on the turnover list.. I guess it shows that to be great you must be aggressive and that leads to turnovers.
Here's that list re-ordered with made FG factored in, ranked by Ratio of FG + A to Turnovers - providing a bit more context for positives (made FG and assists) vs turnovers.

Not trying to be critical, but who is the Bills all-time turnover leader? Jordair had a lot of turnovers early in his career, but improved a great deal later on. Jim Roder had ?19 assists in a game;how many turnovers in that game. Turnovers can also be misleading, since they are part of being an aggressive player-ie Goodwin; who has best turnover/assist ratio? who has worst?
1. LaTodd Johnson, 1979-80 to 1982-83 338 2. Tommie Liddell, 2005-06 to 2008-09 317 3. Anthony Bonner, 1986-87 to 1989-90 316 4. Jordair Jett, 2010-11 to 2013-14 295 5. Roland Gray, 1985-86 to 1988-89 250 10. Luther Burden, 1982-83 to 1984-85 244 Not sure how far back turnovers are recorded, but this was the list headed into this season. Goodwin started the year just outside the top 10 with 240 and is currently 7th with 265 just 2 behind Monroe Douglass. Here's a bunch of Assist to Turnover ratios for players 1980s to present - I just looked up a bunch of guys, there might be somebody with a better ratio than H Waldman, but he and Roder were the only ones I could find better than Yuri Collins

He led in scoring in a terrible year where we were playing mostly freshman with Mitchell, Ellis, Conklin Reed hurt or out. Still got him benched a game his sophomore season. McCall refused to play defense until about 5 games left his sophomore year. Majerus stayed with him.
Explain Kyle Cassity? He barely played his freshman year. Walk ons were playing over him. He stayed.
Tell me who were these mythical guards that were 8th and 9th in the rotation that Majerus ran off?
Here are the guards Majerus recruited to SLU
Mitchell, Cassity, Cotto, Salecich, Jordan, Reid, John, Jett, McCall, Barnett, Carter, McBroom
All of them at one time or another were 8th-9th guys except Mitchell. No one was run off except Salecich. Cotto quit, Majerus wanted him to stay. Jordan was booted because of the situation just like Jon Smith. Jordan sans the situation stays on this squad and would have been good along with Smith. Reid got hurt as did John.
If anything Majerus recruited for the 8th and 9th spot. He liked decent shooting, over achievers who he could mold into better players. He loved guys who sat on the bench for a year or two and then really knew his system.
C'mon man.
Not that it matters, but I thought Justin Jordan was run off (in April) to make room for either Jett or Loe BEFORE the situation happened.

it's the dirty little secret billiken fandom chooses to not talk about. rickma almost had us on probation for the roster turnover. he was no doubt the master of creaming a roster to find his players that would play his way. no doubt he was a huge success, but a lot of those players that were pushed out the door didnt deserve to be treated as such and their dream of being a billiken were crashed.
but i agree that i dont give crewsplatt a pass.
Jett and Loe were out there in Spring 2010 and we didn't have room. Room was made. Scholarships are 1 year renewable. It's not pleasant but it's how the sausage is made.
I guess compared to a guy doing onlyfans and showcasing his hole, it's not that dirty of a secret.

Grandy: Yeah I've diversified into softcore gay porn. I'll have my accountant fax over my Onlyfans income summary.

My god, he has a legit chance of playing what would be a full season shooting 51% from 3.
All this after, myself included, wanting him to slow down on the 3 point attempt last year.
Well, Perkins did shoot 20% (11 of 55) from 3 in the first 16 D1 games last year and was 0 for 3 in that Dayton game when he went off for 25, so he was under 20% from 3 at the midpoint of the season before turning into a 52% 3 point shooter the rest of the way.
Not sure if he was adjusting to the speed of D1 or if it was a mechanical issue or if he was had a nagging injury or whatever but it's a stunning transformation.

- Javonte Perkins is the best pure scorer to ever don a Billiken jersey. One of the purest shots I've ever seen. He has a spot in the league if he keeps playing like this IMO. Not joking.
That was some video game sheyat down the stretch. I mean, he show us he could do it last year, but this game was slipping away after Yuri picked up his 4th, we couldn't get stops as we badly missed French on the defensive end, but Perkins would not let us lose.
Credit Jordan Goodwin for making big plays when we absolutely needed them while having a rough game overall.
Great team win.
