I disagree.  The NCAA tournament would get so-so ratings with a field of only big state schools.  It is the Cinderella stories that bring in the casual viewers.  Eliminate the surprise upsets and the shocking Sweet 16 teams, and you lose the casual viewers.  I guarantee, if that happens, all of the sudden we will hear about below average ratings, and CBS and the NCAA will not be able to comprehend why.

As SLU fans, we're probably more apt to root for underdogs, as our program would also be an underdog it it were ever worth a damn.  But IIRC, network execs always prefer to have the bigger programs make deep tourney runs, as they lead to better TV ratings.

Every year I'm less and less interested in the A10.  We're how many years in now and I still feel like the A10 is a temporary home.

I do not want to switch unless its something better(BE or A10)  but is VCU and Umass leave,  I want out.

I've gotten real tired of it.  No disrespect to the various schools in the A10, but I just have no interest in playing 75% of them.

These days with all the violence and idiocy the major cities are routinely exhibiting, I want nothing to do with being in the likes of Chicago over a weekend.

I was there a month ago.  Tons of people out shopping, dining, enjoying the lakefront, etc.  The city was vibrant and felt safe.  I'm not sure why Fox News has such a hard-on for Chicago, but it's still a great place to visit.

  4. I was forced to stay overnight in Salina while driving back from a ski trip in Colorado.  Our hotel room had a nice view of the Salina water tower, which I snapped a picture of for posterity.  My wife looked at me like I had two heads, which is not an uncommon occurrence in our relationship.  I will say that everyone we encountered there was super friendly - props to Salina!

dont necessarily hate monmouth.   just know nothing about them and i consider myself an above average college basketball nut.   so how good can they be?   how does a relatively unknown college basketball team that has only won one game in their history in the ncaa tourney make the A10 better?

imo to make the A-10 better we need to go the other way instead of expansion.   delete some of the lesser programs that are doing nothing to make their program better.   go down to 10 teams that can be argued are the 10 best programs instead of expanding.

Okay, well I DO hate Monmouth!  And the A10!

Losing to Tennessee-Martin my sophomore year of college was a tough way to start a season.

After hearing Brad's pregame interview on the radio while heading to the game that night, I knew we would lose that one.  You could just tell by the tone of his voice and how he was talking about how tough they were.  It did not sound like a coach who was about to play a buy game.

We finished really strong that season, playing our way onto the bubble after winning eight in a row at the end and losing to UAB by one point in the conference tourney.

Win the UT-Martin game, UAB, and one of the two nail-biters against Marquette and we probably make the tournament that year.  So frustrating.
