  1. He finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists. Classic Goodwin stat line!

  2. Thames was a ball handler for Pattonville last year. He lead the team with 3.7 apg. He had a season high 7 dimes against Parkway West. (R. Johnson was second on the team with 3.0 apg.) Thames lead the team with 22.0 ppg. He scored about 1/3 of Pattonville's total team points. To me, that means he didn't pass very often as he was the #1 option on offense. If he had additional solid offense options, he likely would have increased his apg significantly. There is no reason he can't be a part of the ' point guard by committee' this upcoming season.

  3. Exactly, Ford described him not as a future star but a future superstar, and people are wringing their hands about him being a competent backup? He’s played AAU ball at the highest level, and is not going to be overwhelmed starting his college career. I still don’t understand the sentiment of bringing in someone with limited ability just because he’s had experience.

  4. The other way to look at it is that 1 game drew 18.1 million viewers, but 291 million people total viewed those 32 games.

  5. This mythical back up pg just doesn't exist or isn't coming to SLU. If he would be satisfied with just being the back up pg and that's it, he isn't going to make a difference when Yuri is out anyway. Sorry, he just won't be good enough. Otherwise he needs to be good enough to take wing/guard minutes from Perk, GJim, Pick, Thatch, Parker, Hargrove, etc ... Players that good have other situations available to them that offer them more assurances for playing time.

  6. Stop with the negative injury vibes. It’s hard enough having our annual preseason high expectations crushed by actual bad events; Sits 1 and 2, losing Perkins, Covid shutdown et al., than to project doom and gloom by fantasy injuries.

  7. Almost no one is talking about a season-ending injury. Even the post you quoted is talking about a 3 game stretch. There's nothing unique about our situation. Dayton has the same issue. UAB has the same issue. Nobody at our level can afford to be without their starting point guard for more than a couple of games against decent competition.

  8. Trying to predict the severity of future injuries is folly. For every short duration injury a Billiken has had you find just as many that have been long term and season ending. The problem may not be the actual injury but when it occurs. You lose Yuri for a 3 game stretch and it is against our top OC schedule then we lose a chance to build a resume. Same could be said for in conference games against the teams we have to beat. Being one twisted ankle or broken finger away from the season being perhaps lost is always going to be concerning for any fan.

  9. I agree with this but even missing Yuri for one game in the NIT resulted in a loss. UNI was a good team and adding an offensive weapon like Perkins will help this season even if Yuri missed time but unless we are playing the bottom dwellers (and probably at home), I feel like we will struggle even if Yuri missed say 2-3 games. I hope we can build up enough wiggle room that a few losses wouldn't tank us but as 3star said, the margin for error is low
