Last year if healthy, he would have played as an undersized, but athletic 4. He wasn't going to take Gibsons min at the wing. Before his serious cramps he appeared to shoot well enough from the outside to keep teams honest. I think his min will come at the 4 again this year if healthy.

from stuonslu When josh schertz is asked about Thames He has said repeatedly that Thames might have been on a trajectory to become an all atlantic 10 player (now i know that there is such a thing as coach speak) but that is high praise from a coach who did not bring him -
A good AD is like the ring leader at a circus. The spot light should only be on him or her when the talent isn’t performing. Like stay in the background and manage the show, realize they aren’t there to see you. He doesn’t get that concept. Nothing screams the opposite of athletic and cool than a 60 something year old bald dork trying to act like he’s hip and with it who dresses like Steve Harvey. But other than that great job CM!

I had to read this a few times because I did not see DaGuys mentioned anywhere, but a collaboration with DaGuys could be great for everyone involved. TJ Hargrove is a regular contributor and Gibson Jimmerson is playing on their TBT squad. And the founders are part of the Bommarito dealership family, hence the courtside seats. Their first TBT game tips-off on Friday at 5:00 pm by the way.

Hopefully the frosh hiccups go away. Quite often players make a huge jump after that first year in college ball.

Minor portal update. Reserve catcher Patrick Mendiola has signed with Div 2 Quincy University We still need some major bullpen help and at least 1 starting pitcher. Not sure who they are bringing in from the high school class

Im still not sold on McCottry and ball handling. Just remember too many TO’s and bone headed plays. -
I think I disagree with you. Sharma and Dunlap can shoot the three. With their size, that makes them perfect for Schertz's offensive system. Thames has not, yet, shown the ability to shoot the three consistently. He's hit a few, but not a reliable sample size. He is a slasher, which fit Ford's offense much more than it fits Schertz's offense. If Sharma and/or Dunlap are hitting threes regularly and, therefore, also drawing the other teams' good defenders out so that the middle is opened up for Avila, that may put them far ahead of Thames. That is, of course, if they are not terrible defenders.

Or do something completely different and have someone like Dre do it. They need to find a way to attract more eyeballs to these things. 72 subscribers with friends and family view numbers for episodes isn't good enough. It just shows a complete lack of understanding of how to use the platform and makes it look like a vanity project.

Thames prolbem is health not playing ability Walmer (AKA. the foot) Bishop Roby) while completely different players were not as good as Thames if healthy but that is a huge? -
Thames is starting to get the Luke Meyer treatment on this board. Pure Love (I suppose bc he is local) with rose-colored glasses. He played last year because AJ Casey flamed out and Schertz didnt think McCottry was ready yet....when by the end of February most fans thought McCottry should have been playing the whole time. Now we have Green, Dion Brown, Sharma, Dunlop, who were all much more coveted recruits and actually recruited by this coach. I strongly disagree with Pistol that Thames starts if healthy. He was a Ford guy and now that we have enough swing men that were recruited to the JS system, I expect he will take the route of Davell Roby, Eliot Welmer, Jermaine Bishop just like when Ford came in with his own guys (Bess, Henriquez, Foreman, Goodwin). If Thames is playing big minutes then that means that one of Dunlop, Sharma, McCottry is a bust and likely transferring after first semester....which would be terrible in my opinion.
-
I think Thames fits more into Schertz’ system as a Swing than a Shooter. For me he and McCrotty are maybe more similar in that regard. Both can guard up or down and both can take the ball to the hoop in traffic. Both can handle the ball and bring it upcourt.

I'd like to see especially McCottry, Green, Sharma and Dunlop get double digit minutes, all are sophomores with high ceilings. I think he'll go 8 or 9 deep with double digit minutes given the talent level. Schertz’s 2021-22 Indiana State team had 9 players with double digit minutes and a 10th player close at 8.8 minutes per game.
-
I genuinely don't care who the starters are or what the minutes breakdown is. Avila, Green, and Otieno are starters. The other 2 will be some combination of Thames, Jones, McCottry, Sharma, Brown, and Dunlap. If I'm being forced to pick, I'll say Jones is a starter and the fifth is either Thames (if 100% healthy) or McCottry (if Thames is restricted). Starting spots could be matchup dependent, too. Anya won't start and might be higher up in the order than a couple others, but he gives us the ability to go 10 deep. I don't expect much out of the other 5 players. True depth is a good problem to have.
