Most hostile environment we'll play in for the rest of the year. Taking a step back from this recent 3-game skid, I think we can all safely say that 10-1 on the road and another conference championship is an incredibly successful season. It's been a season-long feeling-out process, but hopefully we're healthy and good to go for the rest of March. DE looked like himself again, MM hit some big shots and ran the point with poise, and JJ was freaking JJ. Shots will fall, hopefully, so let's stick with the positives of our offense running more smoothly (for stretches, at least), our defense finally being SLU defense again (mostly), and our rebounding not giving up TOO many second-chance points.
Onward and upward!
Don't forget more accurate free throw shooting. Also, with about three minutes to go in the game, it seemed as if the Billikens started playing as they had most of the season. I could almost see the confidence return in the way they played defense and the way they protected the ball..
I would hope that we at least practice against a zone. If we do, then some of the players need to know how to use one, If they know how to use it, why wouldn't it be beneficial to just use it for a couple of possesions during a game just to make the other team have to think about it.
Makes sense to me. I've been wanting that to happen for a long time now.
I believe McBroom will get better defensively. McCall and Jett were not all that strong defensively their first year. Now that McBroom has played a year I believe he will adjust and be more productive next season. Another guard is not going to make SLU's rebounding stronger; that is something that needs to be fixed.
Wisconsin went through a similar stretch and pulled out of it. SLU has time to do the same. Against the Dukes and Dayton, SLU held both to low totals in the first half, but then gave up 40 to Dayton and 50 to the Dukes. That is why a zone defense would help. It would give the tired players a chance to rest and prevent so many drives to the basket. A change of defense for short periods of time could be helpful. Don't tell me about how good our man to man is. The last three games it has not been very good in the second half.
