  1. For comparison, attendance for the first two women's games was 800+ and 700+, so last night was considerably less, probably for a variety of factors, including the ones mentioned in this thread. It just seemed really empty from where I was sitting which negatively impacts the atmosphere because there just aren't enough people to make an appreciable amount of noise even when things are going well.
  2. The app I use to track the events I attend says attendance was 317....but that's only possible if you count everyone that walked outside near the arena while the game was going on and each of the band members twice.
  3. I thought the first half was fairly well played and competitive. However, sloppy play for the last 2-3 minutes allowed the Racers to cut into the lead and was only a harbinger of what the rest of the game would be like. I've attended many women's games over the past 30 years and have seen some really bad basketball. In most of those games the outcome was decided before the first tip and the games met expectation. This game, while bad, had a different feel to it. Pretty enjoyable first 18 minutes, but when things started to go sideways, we had no answer to stem the tide. Not sure if that's on the players or the coaching staff, but I was hoping for more than what we got. I also didn't understand the decision to begin intentionally fouling with 2:30 on the clock, down 18. Given that nothing went right in the second half, to think that lengthening the game by sending them to the free throw line would allow us to close the gap was wishful thinking at best. And to put icing on the game that we couldn't get to end fast enough, I understand wanting the refs to get the calls correct, but to have a 2-3 minute review on an out of bounds play with 11.1 seconds to go, down 25, was absurd. For the love of God someone just inbound the ball and run out the clock. With the conference slate right around the corner, I hope the women can find some answers and get back to the winning ways.
  4. Even though someone said the attendance was announced at just shy of 1600, it was great to see everyone decked out in Billiken attire…most of it Billiken Koolaid blue. They also got excited and made some noise!! Roll Bills!!
  5. And it's not just the men's game. The number of monitor reviews last night in the women's game against MoSt was absolutely ridiculous. Made the game go almost 2.5 hours.
  6. For me the difference in the game was the free throw shooting by the Bills down the stretch. Started the game 5 for 11 from the stripe and we looked like we couldn't throw the ball in the ocean if we were standing on the beach. After that however the Bills made 21 of their next 22 which helped them not only get back in the game, but ultimately take the lead.
  7. Or guard the 3??
  8. I have to say, I'm a bit confused. If the band is a volunteer group and the commenters on this thread are members of the band, then I don't understand why, if you/they were so unhappy, in some cases for many years, why you didn't just quit. And if you're not part of the band (former member or not) then I'm not sure what purpose you're serving by coming here to badmouth SLU, Athletics, and the AD. Based on the comments, it sounds like there are band members who are still interested in playing and doing their part to create a memorable experience for the fans. As an avid basketball fan since the early 80s, I've attended games at many different schools and the SLU Band is definitely one of the most enjoyable pep bands around. That said, if there are issues (communication, expectations, scholarships, etc.) that need to be sorted, IMO that should be left for the remaining band members and the new director to sort out with the Athletic Department. Not sure any one else's opinion matters...especially not the ones of those who've elected to move on.
  9. I don't know how to verify the stat, but I vividly remember that one of our teams in the mid 90s, perhaps 95-96, had 4 dunks.....FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON!! That's obviously a stark contrast from the 4+ dunks that we were seeing sometimes PER HALF this year from the Bills.
  10. Great thread. Have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. And if Gus is going to say “Chick-fil-A” EVERY time we go to the line, even though we may have only converted 2 or 3, I’m gonna lose it.
  11. Ah, Donnie Dobbs. One of my favorite Bills ever. Dude was like 4’2” and played forward like a beast.
  12. Apparently VCU is on a 12 game winning streak of their own....so the games this weekend should be a battle.
  13. Did anyone suggest "Pesty's Playground"?
  14. From Weather's perspective, since a claim of sexual assault was reported, one had to have been committed, right? And since I can only assume that JG didn't appear in the consensual sex video, that by process of elimination he had to be the one that committed the sexual assault. It all makes perfect sense.
  15. Hey...can you blame the guy?? Since he writes stories to vilify, the questions he asks are going to be in that same vain. Not defending Ortiz, because I agree that he's a d-bag for asking Ford those questions. Just trying to be realistic. Unfortunately there's going to be at least one like him in every crowd.
