Listener of the Streets

Listener of the Streets (6/7)

  1. It is not only the Weimar Republic, Zimbabwe has gone through the same process, and so has Argentina (every 20 to30 years). Money becomes worthless, taxes go up and those who have solid assets like land, find that they cannot sell it. It is a cluster F--k.
  2. Well, that is the case when talking about D1. Did you ever (you plural meaning everyone in the board) think that a transfer from D2 might take a school to the NCAA tournament and actually be a major factor in this school's winning multiple games this last season. If any of you really know basketball you will know that I am referring to Jack Golkhe, who played for the Hillsdale College (a D2 school and won the D2 Basketball Regional Midwest Championship in 21-22). Jack Golkhe transferred to Oakland College, a D1 school in the Horizon league for the 23-24 season. Now, everybody knows that Oakland College and the Horizon league are not Basketball powerhouses. Everybody should also know that D2 Hillsdale College is not exactly the kind of place from where a basketball player should be expected to transfer into a basically unknown school in the Horizon league and take them the very next season first to the league's championship, and later on to win a number of games at the NCAA tournament. Check me out if you do not believe it. This is not opinion, this is fact. Oakland did not have a coach known to take teams to the Dance, and not only did they do it but managed to win several games. Check this out folks. A kid coming out of nowhere doing what he did, the very first year he played in D1. Please check this out. And even better Golkhe, who wanted to play D1 applied to a number of schools and only ONE school, Oakland, made an offer, so he went there. Players like this one are there, and may even want to transfer but no one gives them a chance. Check it out.
  3. The way I see it, and remember that I am no basketball expert, these spots could be filled will very good graduating high school players that are having problems getting into decent programs. These kids would not have much experience, that is true, but they would come if they have a scarcity of choices. The advantage for these kids would be playing and getting trained by Schwertz. This may not be ideal but it could be a way to fill the team
  4. On the contrary, apathy is widespread in the corporate world where employees do what they are told to do and little more. Be assured that there is not much that is done or can be done effectively to generate enthusiasm among employees.
  5. You bet there will be major changes, The truth of the matter is that players are asking (and a number of them getting) money at an NBA salary range, and the vast majority of schools do not have this kind of money for sports. Therefore it does not take a genius to realize that major changes will have to happen. Do not take me wrong neither I nor anyone else has any knowledge as to what will happen, but it is clear that something will happen that will change college sports.
  6. Schertz is not a man that thinks and acts like everyone else does. he is different. I think he would have done as he said he would. There are people in this world for whom money is not a primary goal, in my opinion he is one of them. Had he said no to SLU and staid at ISU with an intact team he was likely to be in a similar or better position by the end of next season and might have better offers than SLU's. Believe what he says, this is not a guy that says one thing and does a different thing, not for money anyways.. People capable of doing things like this are rare.
  7. Actually what is happening with the NILs and the transfer portal is that the different schools and conferences are being organized according to the level of money available to them. You may not like the outcome but sure as daylight eventually the top leagues will be at a totally different level that the lesser leagues. They will play for the championship, the lower leagues will have their own competitions.
  8. That depends upon a number of factors: 1. No significant injuries during the coming season. 2. Playing performance similar to or better than last season results. 3. Having a coach that actually plays him a lot next season. This is not a done deal although the probability he does make it to the NBA after next season is real
  9. We have to consider a different point of view in this discussion. Let's look at Schertz, he was a kid with not much in terms of an education who started at a very low level in the business of basketball coaching. As it actually is, most famous and well known coaches may have started at a fairly low level and slowly went up the scale. This was the case with Schertz, and Schertz happened to be good so he went up the scale with time. ISU was a very good break for him, and this last season was a breakthrough season for him. There he was, he had developed a winning strategy and could recruit kids seemingly out of obscurity and train them into great players. As it was when the light of recognition and fame shone on him he upgraded and brought with him some of his best players. He now has a much better pay than he had at ISU and is positioning himself to repeat what he did at ISU. The reality of the situation is that if he does at SLU what he did at ISU, he is likely to be nabbed by some of the power schools within a few years and at a better income level. This story is likely to repeat and we, SLU, must expect this to happen. Will Schertz career end at Duke or UConn? Who knows? but it is not an unlikely possibility. You all at ISU should anticipate that your story may well repeat itself at our campus. For our side's point of view, we should enjoy our time with Schertz and understand that his time here will also come to an end when he goes to a better school with a higher salary. So, lets have a joyful time with a really good coach among us, while it lasts.
  10. I suppose it can happen, in this case it was a girl that threw the party.
  11. You can read all the ChatGPT you want, but the experience of such a meal was really extraordinary.
  12. This is the way the Pestello's administration has worked, you do not know how the next president will want to run things. And, by the way, this was not the way things worked under Biondi. Under Biondi it was his way or out. Assuming we are getting another Pestello is something we should avoid. Maybe the next guy will be a new Biondi, who knows? We live in a society that increasingly lives by ability to kiss rear end rather than ability to perform a job properly. This is a major problem.
  13. I just hope that Schertz, who is Jewish, does not take it like the whole school thinks like that.
