Quality Is Job 1
Looks like the Valley might be considering a power play to keep Creighton from wandering: http://www.stltoday....39991aca8b.htmlWhat does any of that have to do with trying to keep Creighton in the conference? Pistol
What does any of that have to do with trying to keep Creighton in the conference? Omaha is one of the potential HQ sites they're eyeing- I don't know, seems like it might be a message. Maybe not.
cheeseman
Omaha is one of the potential HQ sites they're eyeing- I don't know, seems like it might be a message. Maybe not. They set up headqtrs in StL with no team here so why not Omaha?
Pistol
They set up headqtrs in StL with no team here so why not Omaha? Yeah, to be honest my first thought was, "Hmm, looking at Omaha, I wonder if this is a play to keep Creighton happy." Then the more I thought about it, it's probably not as big a deal as my first thought after reading that. Plus, I think KC is a more likely move, if any. I have some buddies at other MVC schools that have long complained that the conference has always given Creighton preferential treatment in every way possible. Maybe that was in the back of my mind. White Pelican
It would be funny if they moved to Omaha and then Creighton left the MVC. And a move to Omaha might not sit well with the rest of the league anyway, particularly if they have their tourney there.
brianstl
Moving the tournament to KC or Omaha makes the trip longer and more expensive for half the conference.
MB73
What does any of that have to do with trying to keep Creighton in the conference? Yeah, what logic exists to come up with that?
brianstl
A nice rundown on how Butler would have fared the last six seasons in the A10. http://m.si.com/news/sp/wr_cbb_sports/detail/4918740
jbizzle09
A nice rundown on how Butler would have fared the last six seasons in the A10. http://m.si.com/news.../detail/4918740 Really nice article. Definitely supports the notion that they are a good fit for the A-10. Another thing I looked up recently in regards to Butler was how they fared against the BCS conferences. Since 2000-01, their record is 21-15 during the regular season, and 8-10 in postseason (NCAA, NIT and CBI). In the same time period, Temple's record against the BCS teams is 30-55 in the regular season and 7-7 in postseason, while Charlotte is 13-28 in the regular season and 1-6 in postseason. Just some food for thought.
GOSLU68
City private schools like De Paul, Creighton- Even Marquette, And Bradley fit better than second tier public schools like Siuc Semo Mo State In 20 years Siue may be a power in BB soccer and track and have larger Attendance greater than any other schools in Mo and Illinois than the Two namesake universities. I'd stick to the current plan
GOSLU68
SLU could start football in Ed Jones Dome for a whole lot less Than Kronke wants us to spend
Box and Won
Omaha is one of the potential HQ sites they're eyeing- I don't know, seems like it might be a message. Maybe not. I heard an interview with Elgin on an Omaha station. He cleared up Burwell's comments a little - sounds like the MVC's HQ isn't going anywhere, but they are shopping the MVC Tournament. There's been a push for Missouri to authorize tax credits for amateur sporting events, and it sounds like he's helping to make a case for the tax credits by threatening to take Arch Madness out of STL. That's annoying. Glad we aren't a part of that.
Cowboy
-i thought the MO legislature passed that bill on the entertainment tax that would give relief?
slu72
-72, there are schools of thought that fball helps bball recruiting (take the kid to the game, escorts, party, tailgate, etc), helps school spirit, helps fundraising, helps identity, increases enrollment, etc Not at the level they want to go to. Now if UMass went to the B10, which will never happen, maybe. But do you really think UMass playing Bowling Green or Toledo or Central Michigan is going to cause a tailgating and alumni frenzy in Amherst? I don't think so. UMASS will be playing all its "home" football games for the next few years at the NE Patriots Gillette Stadium, It is located some 90-100 miles from the UMass campus in Amherst and is about a 2hr drive.
