Quality Is Job 1
I think SLU will be a certain NCAA Tournament team in 2004-05. I'm salivating already, and we still have to get through this season. I'm still hoping for this year's team to come together quickly and surprise. thetorch
From the looks of it we appear set except for PF. I would be much happier with at least another PF to vie for playing time with JJ or maybe even start ahead of him. That appears to be the only place we are somwhat thin. Of course if Izik muscles up and can support the bigs a little we might not have that glaring need.
kshoe
If Soderberg was serious about using Liddell a little at the point you could potentially have a line-up at times of Liddell 6'5 Bryant 6'2 Izak 6'9 JJ 6'8 Ian 6'11 Now that would create match-up problems! Long gone would be the days of a 3-guard offense with a 6'2 small forward like Drejaj.
davidnark
I can do better: C - Husak 7'1" PF - Ian 6'10" SF - Izik 6'9" SG - Meyer 6'5" PG - Liddell 6'5" That is height that would make an NBA team proud.

Schasz
I really like what Coach Soderberg has done in the brief time that he has been at the helm. We have the opportunity to really turn the corner, and hopefully get on a run like my next favorite Jesuit team, the Zags.
jjray
What an upgrade in the talent level of the team in essential 2 years!
billiken_roy
objectively, i think the billikens are in "dire" need of a talent upgrade. ;-)
jjray
>objectively, i think the billikens are in "dire" need of a >talent upgrade. ;-) I hear your Roy. It has been painful to watch at times during the past 2 years.
Schasz
Jjray, I believe BRoy was showing a little sarcasm in response to one of Courtside's posts in another thread.
billiken_roy
jj, i was being sarcastic towards our board overseer that loves to tell us how much better marquette is than slu. i put the little ;-) there to tip that off.
jjray
Went right by me. Thanks for the clarification.
tseugnekillib
imo, next year we will be without an experienced (junior/senior) point guard, that is a true, quick, strong point guard and not a combo PG. I think it is rare that a high school point guard can (Diener at Marquette being an exception) come in and make a good team into a very good team. If SLU is fortunate to sign Polk, Meyer, Liddel and Shaw, then I don't see how that experienced PG gets on board.
3star_recruit
Cincinnati and Louisville don't have an experienced true point this season and I think they'll do just fine.
davidnark
I think the combo of Drejaj, Clarke, and Polk will be fine next year.
bauman
If we tell Drejaj that he is going to be the PG, from what I've seen he will work his tail off to improve those skills. He is one hardworking son-of-gun who will do whatever it takes to play.
tseugnekillib
I agree that Drejaj is a hardworking, blue collar kid. He can/will probably improve his shot and his ballhandling skills with hard work. However, I'm not sure he can significantly improve his foot speed. tseugnekillib
3star, my wanting another "experienced" point guard next season is influenced by the makeup of the next year's Billiken roster. Is it fair to assume that this years Cincy and Louisville rosters will be more talented than next year's SLU roster, thus their need for an experienced PG this season may not be as great? tseugnekillib
Next season SLU will be banking on Polk's health and that Drejaj and Clarke improve their critical PG skills, because I don't see how we can get an experienced juco PG on board if we sign DP, LM, TL and MS.
