Lord Elrond Posted October 9, 2022 Share Posted October 9, 2022 No they’re not, it’s all related to uniform colors, after all, nothing else is implied by the New Zealanders when they came up with the team nicknames, the black colors of the rugby team apparently started the trend, and you can’t wear black on a football (soccer to us) field unless you are a ref, hence the all whites. One additional reason for this is that SLU has control over the word "Billiken." If someone tries to create merchandise with the name "Billiken" on it or one of our logos, SLU can sue them. SLU does not have control over "Team Blue." Anyone could sell T-shirts with the phrase "Team Blue" on it and SLU could not do a thing about it.
