2015-16 Preseason Ratings

@Bonwich. You like Pomerol, I fully agree. La Coseillante is defintely more than I can afford, at least in a regular basis. Never had Certain LeMay. Fine taste for wines, you may try buying 5th Cru Pomerol (good years) and cellaring them for about 8 to 10 years. Aging makes up for lack of pedigree many times.

I am serious about models, a lot of money is being thrown out the window nowadays on the basis of model based predictions that are, let's say less than reliable to justify such expenses. If you get your graduate slave (hate this word, please refer to him as a serf or something less offensive) that is capable of doing such a feat, please make sure to hire him to others wanting similar feats of calculation, you may be able to afford Petrus after all.

As far as predicting outcomes in basketball, there is no way to do it accurately and reproducibly. Of course you can place your bets with Pomerol or whoever you like

Okey. Grad school. It's not just a job -- it's an indenture.

I just saw that while Hanner/Winn (SI) overall ratings are not out yet, the A-10 conference preview is out. They do not like the Billikens and they are projected last in the A-10.

Overall rankings are out now. We come in at 214. I tend to think we can be better than that.

It hurts that Winn wrote that we are a sad bunch.

Team Rankings predicted SLU at 152 and generally has high regard for the A-10 (as SLU was predicted 6-12, 12th in A-10).

The ESPN rankings are interesting as they rate SLU highly precisely because they have a lot of people coming back (method built around returning minutes and manually adjusting to good recruiting classes).

ESPN has their rankings of every D1 team:

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/14097655/ranking-every-division-college-basketball-team-1-351

It's an insiders article but they have us as 129. Davidson (42), Rhode Island (46) and Dayton (56), Richmond (58) and VCU (66) are other notables.

Where did we rank among the A-10?

Looks like 10th.

What's become obvious to me with all these various lists is that 1) there probably isn't that much difference between 125 and 200 and 2) nobody really knows how good/bad we are going to be.
