  1. Is it possible that in the long run Kramer Soderberg might be the best recruit in his signing class? I remember listening to Ryan and Troy Robertson say that Kramer is a good D1 point guard right now, in the Brian Grawer vein but better offensively.
  2. Kevin Williams could really shoot the rock, but he liked to party way too much, as most of the team did in the early 80's. I do remember him really lighting it up against Duke at the Kiel; it was 84 or 85. Where was Jamie Thomas from? He was Kevin's running buddy, a big 6-7 stiff who very rarely got off the bench.
  3. Metz, you said something to the effect that there is no reason that SLU shouldn't be a power of the midwest. It's now obvious that you're the one wearing rose colored glasses regarding our alma mater, and diverting all blame to Brad Soderberg. That is truly horse hockey, man. Until SLU is actually playing in the new building with the new athletic offices and practice facilities Brad is recruiting players to a hole in the wall and you know it. Almost every university we are recruiting against has vastly superior digs than we do, and even a definitive groundbreaking date doesn't mean jack to an 18-20 year old kid. I'm a 42 year old dude who has been associated with or following this program for a long time, and I'm here to tell you your rants aren't funny anymore. Actually I don't think they ever were, but some might disagree with me. And try using a clever substitute for foul language. If you are a journalist you should be working on your craft on this board, not churning out coarsely written, foul drivel.
  4. People who are miserable themselves love making everyone else miserable. It is their only real pleasure. I can bet you that the people who are constantly negative on this board aren't going home to the loving arms of friends and family. That being said, after weeks of reading all the crap emanating from this message board I finally felt compelled to vent myself. So for all the gloomy Gusses out there, go take a run and clear the bad thoughts out of your head. Go see a good movie if that's your thing. Go to the rec center or the Y and take a nice relaxing swim. Hell, go to a bar and look for a drunk woman. But please, stop spouting your venom and ruining my day. You are an instant buzz kill for an eternal optimist.
  5. Billikenmetz, you have no clue what UB's strategy is. If he let's you in on the plan, we all have big problems, ie., he's lost his freaking mind. I can understand you don't like Soderberg, but your conjecture about who we have gotten, who we have missed on and the reasons why are pure drivel. Maybe my expectations are lower, but I just don't understand why you are so bitter. Maybe you're not getting any, I don't know. Maybe you need to get off this board and start chasing some tail. Good luck.
  6. Vtime, I love reading your posts, but after a few months of perusal, it seems to me that if it was up to you we would have made at least 100 scholarship offers to every kid who had made honorable mention all PHL. This just points out what an incredibly hard, inexact science recruiting is, because at least one of those kids is going to turn out good, and you're going to be on this message board screaming why didn't we offer him.
  7. Derek Hood was a pretty good player for Arkansas from KC that Richardson and Anderson stole from Norm Stewart.
  8. My brother is a professor at Loyola NO who got his BA at SLU, and believe me, SLU and the Biondi administration come off as TOTAL JERKS in this issue. It has been a source of great consternation to him, as many of his colleagues come from other Jesuit schools. Obviously Father Biondi must not care if Christian charity is a part of his legacy. I hate to say this because I have been generally impressed by the Biondi regime. I would have to say that sometimes generating good will is more important than money.
  9. You're expecting an awful lot out of these kids. I hope we win every game up to the final four, but if they don't win another game it beats the heck out of 9-21. So in summary I really don't have any concerns. Maybe that's why they're playing so well; it's really all gravy from here on in. That being said I don't think they are going to regress, but some nights you get beat even when you play well. Ask Charlotte how they felt about their effort on Saturday night; I bet they didn't have too many qualms with the way they played. There isn't a team on the schedule through the A-10 tournament that I don't think we can beat but there are several that can beat us if they play their best game. And if we lose I won't be gnashing my teeth about it.
  10. I agree that every season is measured by getting to the big dance, but some of my best Billiken memories are from the NIT. They won me and a bunch of other band members a free three day trip to the Big Apple in March of 90, and did it by erasing a 20 point halftime deficit at the Pit in Albuquerque against Luc Longley and the NM Lobos. In addition, the chance to play more games for this team is a great benefit. That being said, let's win five more in a row and go dancing!
  11. Taj79, I enjoyed reading your post but by the time I was finished I couldn't remember what it was about. Duke over Temple 38-32 at the half. I hope Temple can win but man those guys are generally bricklayers.
  12. Think Mo Jeffers three inches taller. It is late in the game for finding these type of dudes, but I think we are in a unique position to make some hay recruiting. Any recruit can look at this team and see a great future, either immediate (juco) or long term (high school). The chance to play with TL and KL for threee years is enticing. Maybe this is the time to start our new tradition, with Gonzaga being the very attainable model.
  13. Honeybadger rules! There's a documentary on animal planet that shows the honeybadger get bitten repeatedly by a puff adder. He's in a daze for about five minutes, then gets up and rips the snake apart. The Honeybadger is the single baddest ass animal in the world. Who wouldn't want that nickname?
  14. Blibbity blob fan, your comment is inane. You're the only one who deserves to be ripped. Courtside, I couldn't disagree with you more. I think you need to recruit over what you have, and there is a much greater need to recruit over JJ and an out of position Luke Meyer. As far as Obi is concerned, I hope he's the second coming of Anthony Bonner but we just don't know what he is going to be. At the five spot IV is going to be a senior and Husak hasn't shown the ability to be anything more than a good backup. For years our weakness has been against teams with too many athletes at the forward positions. I'm much more secure with our guard play, even though we might lack the quintessential point guard. Actually, I think TL is that guy. I don't mind having a pg who can drive around people, post other guards up, and hit the mid range jumper. Remember he's still a freshman.
  15. You guys are supposed to be working when you post all these messages, right? The boneheads are the people paying you to spend all your time on this message board.
  16. What you have to understand is that the band is such an integral part of the Billiken game experience. A SLU crowd is different than any other crowd I've ever seen. They are not going to respond to the piped in modern experience that you are talking about. Hell, it's surprising that the band isn't dressed up in spats and hats and playing only John Phillip Souza marches. We're sort of the bridge between the septugenarian crowd that's paying for the new building and the younger generation. By the way band, you need to hit all your kicks harder. When you were playing Carry on my wayward son last night it didn't pop like it should. When you play Vehicle it's the same way. I want all those old people to jump out of their seats because you are hitting it so hard. Overall you guys are playing great, and the rhythm section is awesome, but there is always room for improvement.
  17. Sorry LoveforVouk. I was wrong about you getting too drunk, because your sober post was also incoherent. I will give you a pass for being hungover today, but tomorrow try to come up with something witty.
  18. I could have sworn I went to the game last night, parked for free, got there on time, had a great time, and went home. Maybe I was dreaming and it was really some sort of debacle. While I will agree that the alumni introduction should have been done at halftime and every player there should have been singled out, I don't think anyone had any evil intent. By the way, don't disrespect the band; they represent the best this athletic department has to offer, and they need to play more, not less. The college basketball experience does not have to be a copy from one place to the next. That would just be a bore.
  19. Your post was incoherent! When I got home from the game last night I had a nice buzz, but I still had the ability to think and express thoughts clearly. You evidently lost it somewhere along the line. I was also very happy, about the game and the arena announcement. The new place might not be as big as you would like it, and it might cost more money to go. The days where I can take my kids, buy a couple of tickets from another season ticket holder for $5 apiece and we can all sit where my two season tickets are will soon be gone. Nothing ever stays the same, but this change is going to be GREAT!! Every Billikens fan has been bitching and moaning about not having our own place since long before I got there in 1982. This is what we've all been waiting for, and as long as it doesn't look like the Family Arena I'm all good. And if my seats end up behind the basket in the last row, at least I'm going to be there. So put that in your pipe and smoke it, jerk!
  20. Good gravy, men! How much crap can you listen to and get all overwrought about? If you are listening to sports talk radio for solid information, we're all in trouble. The rumors and innuendo on this message board are just as credible as any statement made during an average day on 590 or 1380. And if you haven't figured it out it's just cloud talk, man. Most dudes are talking crap to hear their heads rattle and in Frank's case the only reason he's so sincere is because there is really very little matter to shake in that simple brain of his. So listen for enjoyment only and let it go in one ear and out the other. By the way, the Grind is the funniest show on the radio and they never talk about sports so you guys wouldn't get your grundies all in a bunch.
  21. Temple has been just as up and down as the Billikens this year, and just as offensively challenged at various points in time. Therefore, this game is a toss up, but I don't think the Billikens are nearly as scared of Temple as the guys on this message board. I for one am going to show up looking to have a good time, put a good buzz on and scream my head off. Hopefully a well lubricated Saturday night crowd will give us a big home court advantage.
