  1. 70% female? Maybe it's time for me to return to college for post graduate study...
  2. I think Floyd is a buffoon, and this is all CYA. He lost all credibility for being the top guy when he invited Clemons to his home and claimed not to know about the terms of Clemons' incarceration. Where's the investigation into: "What did Floyd know, and when did he know it?" On another issue about returning to true student athletes, have any of you ever seen pictures of SLU games at Kiel from the early 50's? They packed them in then...of course, they were in a top program in a top league...and winning. So yes, if we return the game to student athletes, and have a good program, attendance will rise.
  3. They were all from the FT line - 10 of 30...:7
  4. I agree - UNLIMITED potential - sign him now, if he has the grades.
  5. Only the giver is required to report gifts in excess of 11K per person per year. Q: Can a "gift" ever constitute "payment"... which would then be taxable income?
  6. Forget the tuition - how much could it be? What about his apartment and food? Who was the landlord? Who cosigned the lease? How was the rent paid? Follow the money. This will be the end of Quin - and maybe Alden - the old "lack of institutional control."
  7. Sloan played the point in HS. Shaw plays the 5 or 4. I think Sloan was close to top 100 out of HS. He's made a big adjustment, and I think he'll be even better this year - he improves every year. I think Shaw could play as a freshman at the 4 - and be better than Sloan was - just because of his experience at the position. Whatever his true size is, or will be, he will play big for it. Guys that worry too much about inches often can't see the forest for the trees.
  8. Whatever happened to the former Baby Blue? I thought she was one of the gang.
  9. Maybe we should be known as "The Big Easty" :7
  10. I thought his pregame preparation was topflight - he was ready for whatever team we played. I think his x's and o'x during the games was very good. However, I didn't like the way he yanked guys. Hoops is a game of reaction - instinct often takes over because things develop so quickly. He had guys looking over their shoulders - paralysis by analysis - which means we didn't get their best game. I think dressing-downs are best done in private, or, at least, in the huddle.
  11. Forget local talent for a minute; for guys like Drejah, and foreign players from Greece, Israel, and other major metropolitan areas, SLU is possibly a more attractive choice than MU or whomever is a few hundred miles from SL, but out in the boondocks. We don't have to apologize for our location; we have our own attractions, and a better program will enhance them.
  12. I agree - SEMO should always be a first option. They play in a good conference, and any exposure for SLU in the bootheel is good.
  13. We can field a starting lineup without any D1 virgins, so I'm not worried about experience. The second tier are also good players. So many posters seem worried about the talent level. I think it's quite good. I'm not worried about the coaching; I think it's quite good. I can worry as much as the best of the posters, but I worry about injuries. They can sink a season faster than anything.
  14. You drive faster than I do...or maybe I have to stop and pee more often.:7
  15. Kevin Lisch's dad is already signed to coach next year. They're paying him 34 cents per mile to drive from Belleville.:7
  16. Blake is a highly upgraded Diener - his release, and willingness to shoot, is much better. Playing horse, it would probably be a tie. If we were set everywhere else, he would be an asset to our team - the defense could never leave him alone, for example, to double team a Perry. He doesn't deserve any disrespect. Brad made a decision, and I honor that. Good luck to Blake.
  17. I find your "Diener Free" logo annoying. I find it difficult to lay any disappointments in Billiken Basketball at his feet. He stayed the course and played and practiced hard, and graduated. He won us a few games. Had we not lost at MU in the final seconds, he would have been a hero of that game. He was very heady with the ball, and was usually in there at crunch time because he was court savvy. Not everyone makes the most of his talent, but I think Drew came pretty close. Surely there are better targets for your disappointment in life.
  18. Roy - I'm a CPA, and I'll address your "pay" issue - to the extent it is pay for his profession, then all the expenses are deductible against the income - in other words, a wash for income tax purposes. I don't see anything sinister in picking up expenses for participants in this type endeavor. If you limited it to those who could pay their own way, it would really dilute the field for the national team.
  19. Ahearn will shoot as well as Diener, but has a much quicker release. If he's nothing but a spot up shooter, he'd beat Drew's numbers just based on getting his shot off quicker...and be willing to take it. There's a place for a spot up shooter on any team that has the other bases covered. Ahearn will be an asset to any team that takes the ball inside, and then can pass it back out to the open man. There was never a question that Blake could shoot it, nor was there any that Troy Slaten could shoot it. I'm rooting for Blake at SMS, and we'll revisit this topic a few years from now - with better evidence to back our opinions.
  20. Actually, I was at the All-star game years ago that showcased Deiner along with the MU recruits and other big national names - at Maryville College. Drew didn't play a whole lot, and NEVER touched the ball when he was in - nobody would pass it to him!
  21. As good as Polk is reputed to be, I bet he won't take a single Drejaj minute this coming season.
  22. I'm going to sneak down there and see...
