IMPORTANT: Make sure your email address is current by May 15

Billikens.com will install a major message board upgrade this summer.  In the new software, users can only log in using their email address (e.g., [email protected]) rather than their username (e.g., SluSignGuy). Your email address for the message board then needs to be up to date for you to log in.

If your email address is current, you need to take no action.  If it is not current, please follow the following steps to update your email (See video below as well).

1. Login to your Billikens.com Message Board Account
2. Click your username in the upper right-hand corner.
3. Click Account Settings
4. On the Email address line, click Change
5. Enter your current email address, click save
6. Enter your password
7. Go to your email account
8. Open the email from Billikens.com
9. Click Confirm this address
10. Click Validate your account

And you are done!

I am posting this now because the next two weeks are busiest on Billikens.com, and I hope as many users as possible see this message.

On May 15 I will switch over the current software to only accept email logins.  Later in the summer, on a to-be-determined date, we will upgrade the software, and the change will be permanent.

Below, I aim to answer some potential questions, but if you have other questions, I am more than happy to do my best to answer them.

How do I find out what email address is associated with my Billikens.com Message Board account?
Follow steps 1 – 4 above, and this screen will show you what email address is connected to your account.  As an interesting nugget, some people's accounts use the email addresses they registered with in 1999.

What if I do not receive a confirmation email?

Do not be surprised if you do not receive a confirmation email, as some email vendors or workplaces have more strict spam filters (e.g. even SLU appears to block emails from Billikens.com).

If you do not receive a confirmation email,

1. Check your spam folder.
2. If not in your spam folder, send me a private message with what you want to change your email address to be, and I can change it as an administrator. 

Will my email be private?
Your email address will remain private except to the moderators of Billikens.com.  When you post or send a direct message, it will only use your username/display name.

I do not post very often or not at all, do I need to do anything?
If you want to ensure you can keep your username in the future, you need to update your email address.

Why is this being done?
Using your email address to log in is more secure than using a public display name.  For example, everyone knows my username is SluSignGuy. Someone then would only need to guess my password to log in to my account. However, all Billikens.com users' emails are private.  So if someone wanted to log in to my account, they would need to know both my private email and my password, which is more difficult.

Do we have to do this?
If we wish to continue to use the current software with security upgrades, yes we have to do this. It is out of Steve’s control.

@SluSignGuy I can't remember my password to change my email, but when I go to request a new password, it tells me I didn't pass the security check. Is that something you can reset so I can have a password link sent?

I do not know the cut-off, but I believe anyone who graduated since 2018 gets to keep their e-mail forever.

So did mine, ended up in junk mail.  My guess is because there’s never been a lot of email coming into my email from Billikens.com, the email system treated it like spam. It’s not really a problem from the point of view of doing this, just check your inbox first, if it’s not there check junk mail folder. If you reply from the email from your junk mail folder the verification works just fine.

I got your PM and changed your email and password.  I emailed you your new password using my personal email.  With this, you should be able to reset it when you login.

Thanks Steve for helping me out!  I've been locked out for over a year since it was tied to my SLU email, and I got a new device that didn't have my password saved.  Still read every post, just haven't been able to contribute.  You da man!
