How about Dwayne Evans, Goodwin, French, Ellis, Lisch, Liddell, Kwamain, Willie Reed, Rob Loe, Carte'are (before we knew better), Thatch, Yuri, Nesbitt, etc. Regardless of whether they panned out for us or not, I think all the guys on my list were thought of as having pretty good upside as freshmen. It’s recency bias on my part. But he’s in this category. Quote
billiken_roy Posted November 28 Posted November 28 McCottrey is a pure athletic specimen. Looks like a big-time NFL safety. He definitely can turn into a special player. He has fantastic instincts and maybe plays harder than anyone on the team. In years past when we only had one or two decent shooters, I think he'd already be a feature player. But right now as far as guards and wings go for the Billikens, other than Johnson, he's the worst shooter on the team. He's not horrific, but imo if we are looking for three point shooters, he's not gonna be coach Schertz first thought. Good news is over time he can fix this Look at the improvement Thames has shown. Carteare, Willie Reed, Nesbitt all had major potential. The rest were not highly thought of as Freshmen. Lisch and Liddell were big time local, but not really on the national radar, but I was young. I could be wrong. It also has a lot to do with being physically gifted as a young player. Willie Reed wasn't a BIG TIME player but his frame had so much room for growth as a player. Pikaar is someone I would compare him to. Yeah, that wasn’t the case with Lisch and Liddell. They were nationally regarded talents and known starters from day #1. Similar to a guy like Kwamain. Willie is probably the most gifted physically I remember though (if we are going the last 20 years), guys like that don’t end up at SLU. SLU_Lax 1 Quote

Maybe Amari gets himself into that category by the end of the season . He’s just not there now. Quote
