thetorch
http://www.110sportspodcast.com/2012/06/episode-160-rick-majerus/ This guy struck me as a little amateurish, I have no idea who he is, but he kept a tight leash on Majerus. Rick covered a bunch of topics and was pretty concise for him. Rick described Cassity as "mediocre."
SpartanBilliken
Per Ben Weixlman: Majerus to be on the Tim Brando Show 560 WNSR Nashville, TN to talk NBA draft in about 3 minutes. jbizzle09
Get your shot glasses ready, you know an andre miller reference is right around the corner. slu72
Get your shot glasses ready, you know an andre miller reference is right around the corner. Miller, Doleac, and Van Horn... could be a triple play. Who knows maybe he'll say something like, "someone should be smart enought to draft Brian Conklin, a fine young man with untapped potential who could turn out to be a modern day Jungle Jim Luscotoff." SpartanBilliken
Hahaha first question posed, and…. Silence… dropped the call…. Brando had to just talk about random things for a bit…. Majerus back… players picked in draft20’s as productive as guys Terrence Ross – Washington - catapaulted to middle of draft Royce White – iowa – fallen to end John Jenkins – vandy – scott skyles type – good player in a “system” Andrew Nicholson – st bonnie Moe Harkless – freshman st johns – teams might miss on him Majerus starts coughing into the phone… Jared sullinger – not sure has enough toughness, size for 4 spot. Not high on him as NBA player – thinks he’ll be a journeyman. Brando talking about Nicholson, what development of his game did majerus see? Majerus says Nicholson has great hands. References Earl Watson in comparison. Nicholson good rebounder, soft touch around the basket. (I think majerus just yawned while talking). Doesn’t have good base, and isn’t NBA athletic. Brando: Will Barton – wing from Memphis – reminds him of Josh Howard. Majerus: commends Brando for Great comparison, calls Brando a “student of the game,” haha. HAHAH mentions Keith Van Horn. Barden intrigues Majerus, talks a whole bunch of nonsense…. Coughs again… Bottom of the draft almost as intriguing Both start talking about top of draft – Royce White should be among the top picks – Majerus thinks he has some maturity issues. Majerus thinks #2 will be Beal. Majerus sleeper pick: Damian Lillard – Weber State. Quick break – another segment after the break… Brando – Jared Cunningham - defensive tenacity to Russell Westbrook. Majerus – NBA ready body, not as quick, but stronger. Safe bet for second round. Brando: Kendall Marshall – a friend of his, who is an NBA guy, compared Marshall to ANDRE MILLER. Majerus – Andre not athletic at all – exceptional passer – intangible leadership skills. Doesn’t know Marshall, but knows Miller. ANDRE MILLER Story – andre playing for clippers playing jazz, andre could diagram any 40 plays by jazz. Andre not a great shooter, marshall has more of a chance to make it. (Majerus bumps phone and you hear him hit a number). End of interview. Quick thought: Majerus was baited into talking about Andre Miller… but I’m sure he would have figured out a way to bring him up in the convo somehow. slu72
Two out of three.... cough... cough. Andre was a given. My question is, how does he know about all these no names? Nicholson's explainable, we played 'em. Does RM do nothing all day but watch film? If so, good for us, I guess. But c'mon, RM, you need a life out of the film room. Bylls
I caught the last half of Rick with John Hadley. Really nice interview. Hadley was extremely positive about Rick and the direction he's taking the Bills. College basketball is back in St. Louis. The most surprising part of the interview was Rick reporting that he expects Dr. Chaifetz to make a bid to purchase an NBA team in the next couple of years. No mention of which team or anything about St. Louis. Rich was extremely positive about the coaching staff. Described a busy July on the recruiting trail. Only made reference to one possible recruit ... the kid from Iowa that he visited right after NCAA games. Once again, really high on Carter ... IF he develops to level of potential ... a real star. Any recruiting buzz out there?
Bylls
One more thing ... after bemoaning the loss of Easy Ed's grandson to Butler, Rick emphasized his desire to land more local kids. He then mentioned that he's looking at an under the radar local kid. Will decide whether or not to offer in the next month. No info offered regarding year or position. ACE
Rick will be on with Rammer from 1-2pm on 101.1 espn Over the last two summers, no SLU coach has ever come close to making as many offseason media appearances. He did it a lot last year with the Canada trip, but great to see him doing it again this summer. It seems he's been on just about every radio station at least once. ACE
Great interview so far. - He got on Barnett last year for not improving and working on his shot and defense. He thinks he "gets it" now - Said if we had Lisch on this year's team, we'd be a top 10 team. Said his parents are the "best" - Mentioned the Spoonhour game again against Jay. They will give out Spoonhour award at the banquet. - RM is in a great mood. Excited about the staff. - Thinks Evans is having a great offseason. May name him a captain. - Says Drew has a huge wingspan. Better athlete than Evans. Gushed about Carter again. Shout out for Grandy. - Says the players are playing in a summer league at Ritter. Sounds like he is doing a commercial for St. Louis. He loves it here.
