These are "nice" players, but not prime recruits.

We need some real "4's" and best if they are JC kids with some power that are ready to step in and contribute, NOW, or the TL / KL era will unfortunately be wasted.

"Personally I think Mitchell may wind up being a great under the radar signing for Brad and I said that in an earlier thread. Relphorde may compete for minutes right away with his versatility, but don't act like Brad really amped up his recruiting by getting these two guys alone.

We still need AT THE VERY LEAST an impact player on the inside to make this class a successful one. Actually, I think Brad needs two interior starters but by saying that I will just be accused of having unrealistic expectations, so I will just say he needs a 4 that can come in and contribute right away."

you will get no argument from me on the above. i totally agree and really want both of these last two signings to be players that can defend and rebound under the basket. i am not interested in getting a guard. if we sign a point guard, that point guard better be starter worthy immediately or i will be upset with that scholarship use.

i would have agreed two years ago. however, i think nate's "honest opinion" has become more slanted in the opposite direction as of late than what ramsey and cusamono preach.

this latest post is a great example. i am telling you it screams as if he hasnt seen mitchell play because anthony mitchell is not a power forward. he has plenty of dribble and pass skills and can guard perimeter players.

I didn't have an issue with Brian's post. In fact, I even thanked him and responded to it. When another poster started piling on me in response, I deleted the entire conversation rather than partaking in another string of personal attacks.

Frankly, I am sick of a lot of the ##### on the board.

I don't have an agenda here.

I was trying to give my honest opinion of what I've seen from the kid.

I saw him play a couple times and I wasn't impressed. I was more impressed with the potential of Brandon Harold and Darian Sain.

Frank C is going to try to make the guy look like the next Dwayne Wade.

I like Mitchell's athleticism and toughness. I covered East Side's game at Edwardsville when Mitchell dunked over Joe Allaria in the open court. That was one of the best dunks I saw all year — maybe the best.

He was also four-of-13 shooting in that game, with 19 rebounds. (Terrance Williams had 19 points, on eight-of-nine shooting, to go along with 11 rebounds and seven blocks in that game).

I also saw Mitchell against Vashon, when he had 12 points on four-of-12 shooting and 14 rebounds.

Mitchell is a good high school player, but I don't know how that's going to translate at SLU.

I don't see him contributing much next year.

My entire post was "How come he hasn't signed yet?"

It was late in the afternoon on signing day. It was a legitimate question. It wasn't a loaded question with an agenda against Brad. A few hours later when I saw that he had signed, I was going to post a link to the press release, but someone beat me to it. I also posted about the signing on my blog.

The ##### on this board needs to stop.

You can't compare Anthony Mitchell with Kevin Lisch. There's no comparison.

Mitchell can definitely be a contributor at SLU — I like the signing — but I don't seen him contributing much until he's a junior or senior.

Only time will tell.

drew i havent seen relephorde play outside of a few short video's of individual plays that have been posted on this board a couple of times. and i agree with what you said, that most of what i have read leads me to beleive he is more of a guard.

but i would have thought the same about luke meyer. i would have thought the same about the randall kid at illinois. or my favorite "there is no way he can ever be an effective power forward" story, is tayshaun prince. now i am not saying relephorde is brian randall or tayshaun prince, but let's let the kid show up at the first practice at least. his physical dimensions are indeed intriguing considering his supposed guard skills.

I'm very excited with these signings! I know we still have holes to fill, but I think they'll fill in great - athleticism, good teammates, etc. As Roy said, we sign one inside player who can play immediately, I will be thrilled. Any chance it will be an international player we've never heard of that they pulled out of left field?

When I saw Mitchell play I thought he was the 3rd best player on his team too. He has definate defensive potential, but really needs to improve his shot. Right now he doesn't measure up offensively to play the wing at a D1 level. Brad worked wonders with TL's shot. If he can do the same with Mitchell he'll be a good player. If not, he'll have to contribute as a defensive specialist. I don't disagree with the signing, but he's going to need time to develope.

I did not see the other post that followed mine. I definitely understand your decision with that information. I thought it all seemed a little strange and not how you usually operate.

I agree with you about the way the board has been going lately and some of my comments have probably not helped it. I will try to eliminate the bs and sh*t disturbing post on my part.

I think a lot of people have been taking every thing on here just a tad too serious recently. Folks, it is an internet message board and nothing more. It should be a fun diversion from the suff we have to put up with all day.

I can see where people would say we need a point guard, but like you said, if we use one of our remaining schollies on a PG he better be able to come in right away and shine.

We know we have very capable guards even if none of them are classic point guards. We have no idea what we are going to have on the inside. I look at it like it would be nice to get a PG, but it is an absolute necessity to get an impact PF

I did not compare them as players. I did not say that have the same talent level. I used KL as an example of someone that flew under the radar because he did not play AAU ball.

I agree with about not getting a alot from Mitchell right away. His game is raw and he really needs to work on his shot.

But when I say the exact same thing I'm spewing negative BS and ripping the program?

Funny how that works.

Maybe I should be like some of the local sports people (who collect paychecks from the university) and try to convince people that Anthony Mitchell is the next Larry Hughes.

nate said,

you cant compare a lot of kids to kevin lisch, yet you yourself gave poy to a joke player like langdon shipley over kevin lisch. so dont tell us about "cant compare" players.

i will say this, mitchell is one of the hardest working high school players i have seen since kevin lisch. and he has a developed physical body like kevin lisch did as a high school senior.

he also can be compared in situation to kevin lisch. lisch obviously did not get his just attention in high school simply because he refused to participate in aau ball until after he had committed to slu. so there is no denying he flew under the radar. i can still remember a couple of internet conversations i had with the bullseye brothers when kevin was in high school and their disbelief he was as good as i was saying. yet the day they saw him play the first time in that kentucky shootout kevin's senior season, they came back on their website admitting i was 100% correct.

the point is, mitchell agreed isnt kevin lisch, but i sure as hell would take him in a second over langdon shipley.

folks need to remember that in 95% of the offensive possessions, once we get across half court, the motion offense takes off and a classic point guard isnt a need.

that said, all one has to think about is tommie at umass and that one play and the luxury of a stud pure point guard indeed becomes a want.

I have never accused you of that. I have never said you had any kind of agenda. In fact I have defended you multiple times on here when it comes to this. Have I not?

I just think your posts lately have tended to be for more negative lately. I thought this one was unnessesarly negative. I know you don't have an agenda when it comes to SLU.

On scout they are 2 star (mithcell) and 3 star (relphorde)

KL, TL also were 3 stars, Luke was a 2 star....

I agree we need more good signings but these were good signings.

Overall though I think there would have been more talk if we had not already known about these players verballing.

Oh and our great miss.....Stemmler a no star
