  1. I'm not celebrating until Schertz is in Saint Louis and has signed on the dotted line, but huge huge props to all the work that Chris May and the boosters have done to put us in position to land Schertz and fend off valiant efforts by Louisville and other major players to try to steal him from us.

Hey detective remember when TheOne posted complete and utter bullsh*t about Dandridge and the washout from Army coming to play here?   Forgot about that one?  He/She is hardly infallible.  If he/she is who we think he/she is he's only telling us what his dad tells him.

I'm just sharing what I've heard.  When I have a conversation with a prominent booster, like I did this week, and he opens up the conversation with "Next year when Ahearn is the coach," it alarms me.  Add in to that a lot of internet chatter and rumors going around, with area sports media guys touting him and I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.

It alarms me because an Ahearn hire, while maybe not being terrible, is not the best we can do by far.  He should be 10th on the list, not a top candidate.  We've definitely contacted Ahearn at this point?  Have we contacted other available coaches like Mack or Holtmann who are better candidates by far?

Detective you typically only post in response to me.  Why don't you contribute something worthwhile to the discussion once in a while and prove you actually are an actual fan of the program and not just a troll.

    Don’t doubt TheOne.

  3. I still have some faith. You don't pay the 10+ million dollar buyout and take someone as risky as Ahearn or that's going to be a complete Ford retread like a Weber or Crean.

I feel like they will go full steam ahead towards getting a proven commodity. I have faith in the Chaifetz and other boosters to make a full run at Mack, Moser, and Holtmann rather than jumping at Ahearn who no one else is going after and appears to begging for the job. They aren't as dumb as the people on this board are making them seem.

Yeah, personally, I don't quite agree with this. Mine is more along these lines with the names you mentioned:

    Tier 1: Mack, Moser, Wade

    Tier 2: Holtmann, Schertz, McCollum

    Tier 3: DeVries, Petino

Tier 4: Kerns, Enfield, Kelsey, Wardle

    Tier 5: Ahearn

Tier 6: Crean, Weber, Ford, Cuonzo, Etc..

Mack, Moser, & Wade would make SLU instantly relevant nationally. If you can get one, you don't pass them up.

    I love this list.

All candidate are listed in their order of preference within their tier

Tier 1 (Turns us into a Sweet 16 program) - Schertz

Tier 2 (Huge upside carries notable risk) - McCollum

Tier 3 (revives us but the ceiling isn't where it should be ) - Moser, Mack, Holtman, Kerns, Enfield, DeVeries, Kelsey, Wardle

Tier 4 (keeps the program out of the basement but shouldn't be employed) - Pitino, Ahearn

Tier 5 (it's only going to get worse than it is now) - Crean, Weber, Ford

Moser should be in a tier of his own at the top, Mack should be in Tier 1. In my opinion.

  6. Travis clearly cares a lot about the school and the city. Love the way that he bought in and truly cares about the community. With that said, college basketball is a tough business that's all about results. Results haven't been where they need to be and SLU has given him more than enough time to try to get those results. Nothing personal, but his time is here and there's no other option at this point.

We can trim Jay Wright. Better chance at landing Brad Stevens

They bring it up in every thread, they started a “grassroots movement” thread so they could unite in one place and get the coach fired. Check out their billboard on Hwy 40. They are a no excuse group, but state every chance they get that the staff should get on their knees and be grateful for a fortunate break. Most posters won’t touch them. They don’t want to be chastised for having an opinion. Maybe instead of going off on anyone who doesn’t sing the fire Ford narrative you guys could fill us in on your movement to fire him? Assume  Dr. C spoke to you guys when he was in town. How did that go? I know, I’m a Ford fan because I’m related to Ford or a friend of the family or some guy on twitter that’s not me. The truth is I am none of these so start with something else this time when you go off.

Out of genuine curiosity into the retain ford side of the equation - what are your main driving factors for wanting to stick with Travis?

This team played their guts out. Down five with under a minute left to the #21 team in the country on their home floor where they virtually never lose.  A handful posters were consistently positive.  And yet many (most?) of the rest were just salivating for a Billiken meltdown - so obvious.  WTF?!?!  Is this not YOUR team?  And a bunch of "regular" posters were pretty silent which one can only assume was because the Billikens weren't getting destroyed.

The snark from the MBAs every time the Bills made a mistake was disgusting.  There are a lot of us who still support this team. And many of us are the ones the others talk about - the ones writing the big checks. But a lot of us are sick of the MBAs on this board.  If you really hate Travis and the team THAT much, go post on the opponents board.  Let those who support the team enjoy reasonable discussion (at least in GDTs) about the team we love and support regardless of who the coach or AD is.

I would never question the work ethic of the players - the guys have consistently worked their tails off this entire season and I'm grateful for every single one of them.

But if the state of our program is celebrating losses to our biggest rival because the game was "close." Then this is a program that I, and I assume many others, don't want to be a fan of moving forward. We play the games to win. We work all season to make the tournament. We keep setting arbitrary goals (play close on the road to a ranked Dayton team, win 20 games, etc.) to make us feel okay with underachieving.

I would have died for this program 3 years ago, now I am struggling to even pay attention. If the leadership continues to show that they are okay with mediocrity, then they will continue to lose more and more fans like myself.

  10. Is there any possible way to defend what Ford is doing here?

Going into this year, I was pro ford. I didn’t think he deserved to be fired after last year, clearly regret that thought process now.

Theres no way to spin what has happened this year. We’re 231 in the NET and the laughing stock of the conference. If Fords not fired after this year, then I will never watch another SLU basketball game again.

Maybe 1-2 of those names is exciting?  Maybe?  How many new a$$es is CY Young going to put in the seats for you?

Agreed, but I don't know how many coaches out there would instantly get attendance up at chaifetz that would be realistic options for us to bring in. I think a good young coach could gain excitement not around their name but around bringing in a new batch of exciting players, playing a new brand basketball, and winning early.

Went through a couple of online articles and a few discussions on the blog and put together my view of the coaching candidate landscape. Pedigree and difficulty (likelihood we could actually land them) are on a scale of 1-10. Again, purely speculation but thought I would share my thoughts.
