Is Chaiftez positioning Yuri to buy his 5th year at SLU?
The PB league starts late this month. The Billiken's basktball season will end sometime in March. Two months for Yuri to promote the Shockers before he jumps out of NCAA ball? Doesn't add up to me.
I hope you're right, but the devil's advocate position here is that this is just the easiest way they can funnel him the 6 figures he was promised. Think money laundering, but not illegally.

How do you think SLU would do in the Big East?
Yuri hung 19 assists on BC last year and this year we beat Providence, who's 7-2 in Big East play sitting 1 game out of first place. Given we're doing that with A10 recruits I'd say we'd fare pretty well.

I’m concerned about Old Guy. Did anyone see him at the game today?
People know who he is in person? I thought his identity was a mystery.
I actually have my suspicions as to who he is but they're mostly unfounded and certainly unconfirmed. -

Btw...For those that missed it, Avery Johnson was one of the announcers in last night's game. Yuri just passed him on the all time list on my previous report. He is the all time single season assist leader.
And Avery stated that he was never as good as Yuri, hmm

I'm looking forward to going to Chicago every year.

Belmont wouldn't make the A10's top 10 in enrollment.
Why the desperation for having more schools in Dixie?
Market capture, probably. Belmont specifically because we'd all love a Nashville trip every(/other) year

I reckon we lead the nation in numbers of players on the roster who have been hit by cars!

I was loving the top of the key isos with Perk and Pickett. Doesn’t happen when they’re playing the 3 and 4. I’d like to see that mixed in when Yuri returns.
I can agree with that! It's crazy that we don't try more complicated offensive schemes with the talent on our roster. A lot of Yuri's perceived shortcomings are IMO a direct result of the coaching or lack thereof

This may get long winded, so bear with me.
SLU IS BETTER with Yuri, but (especially with a healthy/effective Perkins) we his loss isn't as massive as it would seem based on how much of an impact he has on the game when he is playing.
IMO a big problem with the "less dibbling / less time with the ball in Yuri's hands" stuff is that Yuri isn't a very good player on offense unless the ball is in his hands. He's phenomenal with the ball. Without the ball, he's not a good shooter, not a good cutter, and because he's smaller he doesn't have much impact as a screener. Honestly, when Yuri is in the game, SLU is "easy" to defend & the fact that our offense is still really good speaks to how awesome Yuri is with the ball.
Example - go watch the highlight package from the GW game & see how many top of the key 3 pointers our guys made. That screen / 3 from the top isn't really an option with Yuri in the game because either he's the one handling the ball up top & he's not going to shoot OR his guy is going to help off him to make it easier to defend the screen that someone else is executing.
There is a similar thing doing on defense. Yuri is our best on ball defender, but he's also undersized. That means if we switch screens with Yuri in the game, he get stuck on a big & it's often either an easy bucket or a foul on Yuri. He's not really effective played in a zone D because he doesn't have the length to be disruptive. Our 1-3-1 Of course you'd prefer to have your best on ball defender in the game, but not having him in the game opens up more options for us on D.
(Edit: please have mercy on me @Bills By 40, this is not meant to be a knock on Yuri)
We're having a completely different conversation if Perkins hadn't risen from the grave and spread the good word yesterday.
I don't fully disagree with anything you said. I wish we ran a better offense and had better contributions from players across the board but I can only ask for so much. If guys start doing what we expect them to do everything will look better with or without Yuri on the floor. (ESPECIALLY Okoro)RUBillsFan and dennis_w like this -

The thing about this game is I thought our offense flowed better than normal with the ball not being stuck in one player’s hands and waiting on him to initiate everything. Our shooting percentage was higher than normal and turnover rate lower. What to do when your team looks better with the country’s top assist man not playing?
Turnover rate was down by 2, assist rate was down by almost 6. Turnovers may be directly attributed to Okoro's lack of PT or the fact that we were playing a bad GW team. No sh!t shooting % is up when GJ and the JP's combine for 22-38 shooting but imagine the score when we have a team playing that hot and one of the best passer college basketball has seen in decades leading the ship

I couldn’t tell from my seats up too why it kept taking so long for Ford to leave the floor last night, but when I watched on the broadcast today, I saw it was because Ford kept stopping and turning around to glare at the refs.
My crew was begging for him to retaliate. Yelling "sock him" and "throw a chair!!" and the way he took his exit we thought there was a chance lol.
I don't care who you are, had Ford clocked Rogaine square in the face it would've been 1) justified and 2) an all-time memorable college basketball momentgobillsgo likes this -
Additionally, milestones for next game:
With just 2 assists (741) Yuri climbs to 59th over Jamar Smiley (Illinois State, 95-98)
With just 6 assists (745) Yuri climbs to 57th over Mark Woods (Wright State, 89-93) and Sean Miller (Pitt, 88-92)
With just 8 assists (747) Yuri climbs to 56th over Javon Levi (UT Arlington, 18-22)
With just 13 assists (752) Yuri climbs to 54th over T.J. McConnell (Arizona, 11-15) | 13 or more assists 7x this season
With just 14 assists (753) Yuri climbs to 53rd over David Edwards (Texas A&M, 90-94) | 14 or more assists 6x this season
With just 17 assists (756) Yuri would be tied for 50th with three other players | 17 or more assists 2x this season
*I began italicizing "just" when we got to the point where it seems easy for Yuri but is in reality a very tall order*

At his current rate of 10.8 APG and at least 16 games remaining on the schedule, Yuri is on pace to finish this year (assuming no decline of that average and no more than 16 games played) with 899.8 assists, moving him to 16th on the all-time list and just 3 assists behind the two players tied for 15th with 902.
Regardless of how this season shapes out you owe it to yourself as a "Billiken fan" to enjoy the hell out of this show that we're watching because we most certainly will never see it on our court in our uniform again. Yuri is an all-time great point guard.Yuri's average rose slightly to 10.9/game after last night. That adjustment made to the calculations above (15 remaining games) would put Yuri at 903 assists on the year, in sole position of 14th all time and 31 assists behind Gary Payton at 12th / 47 assists behind Greg Anthony in the 10th spot.
I repeat:
Regardless of how this season shapes out you owe it to yourself as a "Billiken fan" to enjoy the hell out of this show that we're watching because we most certainly will never see it on our court in our uniform again. Yuri is an all-time great point guard.

The eye test...if we go 15-3 in conference play they might not care about the resume as a whole. Momentum probably means something.
