Offense has ground to a halt.   Still missing three starters and #1 pitcher with injuries.  Eeked out a 3-1 win at Lindenwood last night.    Very worried about our weekend series at GW.  We are actually behind last year’s pace in conference.   Last year at this time we were 9-3.  We currently stand 8-4.   Unless we can get some dudes back from injuries, this has the possibility of becoming a very disappointing season.  I was counting on this year being the first SLU regional I was going to be able to travel to.

I was at the Lindenwood game last night.  The Lion's didn't throw anything special but made a few nice plays.  There were a few scouts there that looking to be honed in on Clohisy and Gray.

This UK hire has the potential to get really interesting.

Evergreen big name candidates Jay Wright probably not coming back and Donovan turned them down 3x already.  Oats said he's staying.  Maybe Baylor's Drew? Otzelberger probably hasn't done enough for them.  Beard and Pitino (to return) have skeletons. Pearl probably too old and has reported deal with Auburn to have his son replace him, ditto for Sampson at UH.

All because SMU fired a winning coach, took USC's coach and USC took Arkansas' coach and Cal is buds with Tyson chicken owner and Arky booster,  Who's probably part of the inspiration for the bad guy in True Detective season 3.

    Underpants would be my guess.

He will leave after 2 seasons. For a P5 job.

Sweet!  I would be on board, means we are really good for 2 years and another good up and comer coach wants to be here.

I watched second half of the Memphis win at Milwaukee. I hadn't watched Goodwin play in a while but had seen his 3-pt % was fading, plus he only plays some of the games as Grizzlies need to slowly use up his maximum game allowance as (technically) a prorated two-way contract player. But last night it was clear how valuable he was. In the second half, he came onto the floor about midway through the third quarter and played the rest of the game, which was close throughout. He played well as point guard and scored opportunistically, and Memphis announcers raved about his rebounding, said he is one of the best defending and rebounding guards in the league. While J. Jackson was MVP of the game, Goodwin was clearly also key to the win.

He has had some very good games in a row now.  My 10 year old is going to the Grizzlies game tomorrow night and will be rockin his new Grizz JGood jersey.  It will all be a surprise for him and really hoping #4 plays!

The SLU WBB team played a holiday tournament at FAU in 2018.   Three things I remember are that Dr C was there and was very friendly, my wife accidentally stumbled in to Coach Stone, who then complimented her on her shoes, and that the FAU Basketball facility was pure trash.   About on par with a low D1, decent D 2 arena.   Their baseball facility next door, while miles above ours, is really terrible, considering the amazing history of excellence they have had.

I grew up 3 miles from that campus and played many games at that park including a number of high school games.  I was there in October with my family and I took my boys to see the campus. I was amazed that the facility did not change at all,  it has been almost 30 years and it looks almost exactly the same.  Pretty sad for how good of a program they have. Their coach, McCormack has been there almost that entire time as an assistant and head man.  Shocked how they haven't done much to that place.

Leathernecks always a tough out. They gotta deal with Macomb, Illinois day in and day out. That’ll put hair on your chest.

Cougs 20-7 in 99 if memory serves me right, but old Ricky Jones at Tulane was everyone’s daddy that year. I hated when they came up to SLU with their “Pelicans on the Bat” unis like the Cardinals. Green Wave went to Omaha in 01.

We ran out of meal money and pitching!

Billikens open a 3-game series with Western Illinois tomorrow in Millington, TN.   We actually played at that stadium last year when our home series with Lamar was relocated there due to field conditions.   From what I recall, SLU ripped their hearts out with a couple of dramatic wins and then Lamar decided they didn't want to play the Sunday game.

Western Illinois lost a road series 2-1 to Austin Peay but could have easily won the Sunday game and the series this past weekend.  WIU didnt play midweek but Austin Peay then went to Starkville, MS and took out perennial SEC powerhouse Mississippi State twice.

    College baseball is crazy.

That Millington Stadium is really cool.  We played a CUSA tournament there one year and almost made a miracle run before getting bounced by Houston.  UH beat us 5 times that year and had several guys who went on to the bigs.

FYI - SLU added a game at Lindenwood for tomorrow afternoon, I assume to make up for the game that was washed out Sunday.  Lindenwood took one out of three at Dayton to open their season this weekend.   Looks like it should be a pretty nice afternoon for baseball.

Sweet, thanks for the heads up!  I will bring my boys there for a little after school.

I remember that series well.   I’m sure I have the scorecards somewhere.   They used to give them out at games. Pujols was a rookie for the Cardinals and he WENT OFF that same weekend.   Good times!   I already have tickets to the SLU game in New Orleans this year.

Playing at Tulane was fun, they had fans pouring beer on us from the seats above the dugout.  I had one of my lowest moments there when I was a freshman, hit a line drive off the top of the right field wall and got hosed by 5 feet at 2nd because I thought it was gone.  Hughes let me have it.

In 2001, I think Tulane was 15th in the country when we beat them twice and then they went on a huge run and took out LSU.

Correct. However you guys know that I'm not saying college baseball isn't entertaining. I'm saying it's impossible to predict a result even if the game is 14-1 in the 5th inning.

Especially in the mid week games.

In 2001 Tulane won the C-USA and made it to the CWS.  They were stacked.  We beat them 2 out of 3 in St. Louis and it took a late rally for them to win Sunday.  When they got to Omaha a reporter asked Rick Jones their coach about their great season but then threw in, "how the f*ck did you lose 2 to St. Louis".  Anything can happen which makes it awesome.

It's going to be interesting how coaches are evaluated this year, like brian said. I think with Travis, it's an obvious decline and given his reputation as a recruiter vs a coach. But I'm sure there are athletics directors around the country trying to figure out what the deal is with a guy like Dennis Gates just for example given his massive drop off from year 1 to 2.

It's unlikely Gates gets let go because of what he has coming in but going Ofer in conference will land him on a major hot seat for sure.
