SLU is getting a visit next week from Amari McCottry of St. Thomas More HS in Milwaukee.
-
Sure looks like Boisvert, Gray, and Gaetano are the three recruiting assistants, and Rob Gardiner will have a position similar to what he had at ISU (Special Assistant to the Head Coach).

I even make a cameo in there.
Also anyone know whatever happened to the kinda dorky South Florida fan that used to go to all the games? He was a huge USF fan and would wear suspenders and a like a carnival barker hat with bull horns? Ended up kind of just becoming a SLU WBB fan. @Pistol you remember this guy right?Oh man, you're ringing a faint bell. What year(s) would this have been?

On the last @Midtown Madness we did a very quick combination of who we'd keep from each roster and ended up with:
Avila
Swope
Conwell
Kent
Larry
Jimerson
Thames
Curcic
Hughes
Williford
Nitu
Birmingham
AlderinkThe last 4 are signed HS players, Williford to SLU and the other 3 to ISU.
This team would be very expensive but would win the A10. The incoming players and Curcic would be nice values to round out the roster and keep the budget somewhat realistic.
I guess this also means Jaden Schertz would walk on.
I also realize that we wouldn't have much positional depth behind Avila but this was an unplanned exercise.

First objective achieved: slow start has been avoided. SLU 16, Minnesota 9 after 1 quarter.

Someone stuck a Billiken sticker on the back of the Gophers head. Hilarious
Billiken, trickster god. That's really funny.

You thinking you played a part in getting Ford fired is how delusional you are. Can’t wait for the May billboard.
DOC, regardless of who deserves credit, I hope you are able to transition away from 100% negative posting.
The fan base is more energized right now than I've seen it in a long, long time. We can all move forward together.

Oh nice. Peel is a fun place. Used to have a great tap lineup but now I think they brew their own beer.

That person did not go to college if he/she believes "college kids aren't as motivated strictly by money as adults".

The "wtf is a Billiken?" line is tired and makes you look dumb, especially if you're a sports reporter in Missouri with an interest in college basketball.
Or just a human with internet access.

I thought this graphic was interesting. This shows every Elite 8 team’s starting lineup by where they began their college careers. 11/40 (28%) of the starters came from mid-major (or lower) programs.
I find it funny that Duke and NC State are exact opposites when it comes to portaling.
Also, Bronny James to Duquesne is actually a possibility?! Crazy.
Part of this is just the age of the rosters. Duke starts a senior, 2-3 sophomores, and 1-2 freshmen. Purdue starts 3 sophomores and 2 seniors. Whereas most of the rest have more experience in the starting lineup, and guys who have been around 4-5 years have usually transferred. Tennessee is the exception; very experienced roster.
My point is that Duke and NC State might not be opposites in terms of roster churn, just that Duke's players are younger and they haven't transferred or gone pro yet.

Larry Bird used to have a restaurant/hotel right off the highway in Terre Haute. I ate at the restaurant a couple of times. It had some cool Celtics memorabilia. One of his less talented, weirder looking brothers was running the place.
SLU hosted ISU in my college days and I think one of his other brothers Eddie was playing (not that well) for them.
That is now a Quality Inn, just south of downtown and about 3 miles north of I-70.

Give Jimerson one last bag. Keep Thames. I actually think Curcic might be a sneaky good (and inexpensive) guy to hang on to. I'm not worried about anyone else.

If you want to understand why an ISU fan is painting us as rich snobs, you should go to Terre Haute and walk around the town. Then walk around the campus of the #10 rated college in Indiana.
It's all a matter of perspective.

They need to announce before Saturday to be honest with you. That way Schertz can go to the Final Four. He needs to be there for press reasons and to build his staff. If they don't have this done before that they will miss out on a great chance at publicity for the program because Schertz will be an in demand interview at the Final Four.
Fine by me.

It will be at SIUE.

If you want as much visibility and talk about the hire as possible, release the announcement Saturday before the Final Four tipoff shows start. It will be mentioned on different channels and shows along the news tickers.
The press conference can happen on Tuesday or Wednesday. Schertz will likely be at the Final Four with all other coaches, the NABC convention is this weekend. He can also interview potential staff members if some of his current staff doesn’t come with him.
That's a good point that I hadn't really considered based on the fact that he's still actively coaching this season.

Friday and Saturday also work. I think we'll have our guy announced in the media by the time the men's final 4 tips. When the actual press-conference is, I'd bet on Monday morning.
Schertz said he would take "a full day" so I'm not sure when the clock starts on that, but Friday might be too soon. I figured they would avoid Saturday for the Final Four doubleheader, not sure. Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday - it shouldn't be Monday.

Maybe this is just me being selfish because my kids are off school and we're driving to see it, but I really hope they don't do the big announcement on Monday. The story will be buried by eclipse mania. Terre Haute is within the path of totality and STL is pretty close to it. Then the men's final is that night.
It has to be Sunday (well before the women's final) or Tuesday.
The path of totality is pretty close to STL - places like Desloge, Farmington, Bloomsdale, Red Bud, Carlyle, Okawville, and Effingham are right over the line. The closest points to SLU in the path will start to see the eclipse around 12:40 pm and start totality around 2:00, getting over a full minute. Roads will be chaos that day.
Terre Haute is fully in the path, will start to see the eclipse around 1:48 and get nearly 3 minutes of totality starting at 3:04.
SLU can't do this Monday, for real.

In fairness, apparently the Ahearn lobbyists are extremely powerful. We even had someone on this board convinced that he was likely going to get the job. They must have been working people all around town.
Within a small circle (that happens to include a few local media figures), they are.
But in a larger, more relevant way, they aren't powerful at all. SLU and its boosters ignored them and pursued the candidate(s) they wanted.

Getting chippy in here.
Bottom line is people should be confident. We just have to wait a few more days.

Sorry, but you lose all credibility by putting Slaten and Frank in the same category. That's ridiculous.
They put themselves in the same category. They share the same bad ideas.

State champ. Almost had a triple double in the final. HS team went 29-1 and only lost to Wisconsin Lutheran (30-0), which has Kon Knueppel. According to West Pine Bills, he averaged 22.1 PPG on a slashline of 56%/32%/73%, with 8.8 RPG, 5.3 APG, and 2.1 SPG. Plays the 1-3 positions.
