  1. And, of course, in St. Louis, we're rooting for ... UMSL? WU? Fontbonne? Webster? DeSmet? Vashon?
  2. His size is similar to Highmark's. High had a great career at SLU. I wonder if Scott has seen Luke play, and what his evaluation is. Kleinschmidt didn't come off the bench at Marquette...
  3. I just wish they'd have him sing the National Anthem at home - I'm sure he knows the notes...a rare thing today...
  4. I don't like it. To me, the mathematics are simple - if you let the guy play until his 5th foul, you get the most minutes. Do your best; then, if you foul out, that's why we have subs. It might make sense to pull a guy for a minute and do some coaching, if possible, on how to avoid the next foul. But put him back in asap.
  5. At this point, only a wet t-shirt night would draw more students - things will change with the new arena.
  6. I think we match up well where it's most important - head coach...
  7. Wisconsin will rue the day? It may be awhile... That's not to say that Brad wouldn't do as well, but WI certainly landed on their feet when they might have been making a huge mistake.
  8. I think it was Lady Astor - they had a running feud. Another one was: She said, "If you were my husband, I'd give you poison." He replied: "If you were my wife, I'd cheerfully take it."
  9. There is an email newsletter. If you're a Billiken Club member, they ask for your email address, and you'll get it automatically. Since I read the board and think I'm up on everything, I rarely read it; when I do, it's not news to me. I know they mentioned the bus trip at the Tipoff Club - that's always a good source of info. In fact, I think the SMS bus trip is a long standing one, but I've never been. I make home games a real priority; even if it's Saturday night, my wife doesn't make other social plans for me, and doesn't give me any grief. However, when I start to make away games a priority, I will get grief. She's not a fan, nor is it important to me that she be one.
  10. Point spreads from Vegas are not predictors - they represent the adjusted amount required to get bets on both sides of the game - that way the sports books get their vig - 11-10 - regardless of who wins. Lopsided betting in either direction always adjusts the spread.
  11. I note that you omitted me, although I was sitting right next to you! As far as I know, I was the only one propped by the cute blond, so I know I'm photogenic. Youth often can't see the beauty of experience...
  12. Not only do I drink, but I smoke cigars when I'm doing male bonding at my home...But, hey, I'd have to use more than one TV to acommodate a crowd that size, so you could go to the "nonsmoking" section... :7
  13. My paper is delivered on Sunday morning, and a nice story was there, sharing equal billing with the MO and IL games.
  14. The replays all clearly showed Diener's push to the back of Reggie as he completed his layup with a few seconds to go. Count the basket and send Reggie to the line - if he scores, Brad's had a chance to talk to the other team members about the last second defense, and there's a lot more pressure on MU. The refs stole this one from us, and it started early...
  15. You get the whole game in the lane, if you need it, as long as you are working for your shot. 3 seconds doesn't apply unless you are in the lane that long without possession or if you hold it that long - working for a shot, or whatever, and then pass it out.
  16. Real value, of course, is Truman State in Kirksville MO. One of the featured schools (as NEMO State U) in "How to get an Ivy League Education at a Public School Price." At the time, the ave. ACT score was the 2nd highest in MO - 1 pt under Wash U. I believe it was 26. My oldest daughter went there; with Bright Flight, it cost me about 4K per year. She got her Master's at UMSL. Now she's getting her Ph. D. at Wash U as an Olin Fellow (only one in her class awarded in Humanities) - free tuition plus 20K per year; no services required - the point being that an inexpensive public school education will not keep you out of a top graduate school. I cannot understand going private at the undergraduate level unless there is substantial financial aid, and I don't mean loans. The extra money wasted on private tuition will never come back - the rule of 72 supports me on this. My wife got her master's at SLU and my middle daughter got her BSRN at SLU, but both got substantial financial help.
  17. They were up 16 at the half - something is missing from that crew; I haven't seen them enough to have a strong opinion.
  18. I seem to recall that Knight disclaimed his TT salary, either last year or the year before, because, in his opinion, he didn't do an adequate job of coaching. If that's true, it paints a different picture than his being greedy, and sets a standard that would bankrupt Quin if he followed it for the last few years...:7
  19. When I first became a season ticket holder at SLU, freshman weren't even eligible, and few sophs got playing time. There's still a transition, whether it be from HS or from Europe. Kleiza is all world, and it's not fair to compare Izik and Ian to him. In my opinion, Ike is contributing now, and I expect Ian to contribute next year - Varner and Sloan will be gone, so, at least, he will get all of the backup minutes behind Tom, and I think we will be happy. I expect him to stay for all four years, and we will be singing his praises greatly in years 3-4. I also expect a few good minutes out of him this year, as he settles in.
  20. I'm sure you're right; still, Ike doesn't look spontaneous. But, I think it's coming.
  21. When Ike no longer has to think about what Brad would do and just play, we will see him at his best.
