Ya' Know...Illinois is so much better than Missou....

Recommended Posts

Based on head to head competition I don't know why Illinois continues to schedule them. I mean it's obvious that this game is Missouri's Super Bowl. The Illini just have nothing to gain and a lot to lose by drubbing the kitty cats year after year. Maybe they should take a couple of years off....

Meow. Merry Christmas. (Happy Holidays to any Islamic folk not actively seeking to destroy our great nation, and any Jews or Hindus or pagans or tiger fans)

Have to find happiness where I can, in Missou's misery.

illinois has nothing to gain and everything to lose with this game. they should back out of that game as soon as possible.

Well if you use Bob Ramsey's reasoning for why SMS is supposedly a better program than SLU - then you are correct. What a silly statement by Bob and what a silly statement should anyone seriously make it about the MU/IL situation. I bet you won't hear Mike Kelly make such a silly comment. You are also correct in pointing out the double standard that MU uses when not scheduling SLU but it is OK or them to continue losing year in and year out to IL.

i read the other day that each team is taking home $250k minimum. i think they are crazy for not moving the game to the dome. they would sell 60,000 tickets is my guess.

but while we're being scheduling experts. Why doesn't SMS stop scheduling SLU? They whip SLU on a regular basis. They have gone to the Sweet 16...

This is nonsense. We'll see at the end of the year who's the better program. Quite frankly both Mizzou and the Illini have underachieved. Both have had squads that have underperformed in the NCAA tournament. But this is a new year....

Mizzou, SLU, and the Illini will be judged on conference and postseason performance, not individual head to head battles.

Having said all that, I am getting tired of Quin getting outcoached on a regular basis. This Mizzou team has more talent than any other in history and that will be shown by how many players make the NBA.

but I'm not sure its NBA talent.

I think Kleiza will play in the NBA. I think Paulding has a chance because of his solid range. I don't think AJ is an NBA talent. He has limited hops, isn't tall by NBA standards and isn't a good shooter outside of 7 feet. McKinney has NBA potential and he certainly has the ability to create his own shot by hanging in the air but he will need to get considerably better at his deep shooting and ballhandling to play in the NBA. I haven't seen enough of Conley yet to comment.

Basically i think Mizzou's problem may be that they have have a bunch of very good players but no great players. In crunch time great players are needed.

I wish SMS would cancel the series with us. I'm tired of being beat.

AJ, I honestly think Quin is overrated as a coach. Look at the wins this year. It's not like even against horrible oponents, that they won convincingly. They have played two quality opponents so far, and have two losses. They even had more practice time this year than most teams. You are right, they have a number of future NBA players on that team, and yet they aren't dominating anybody. It has to be Quin. I must say his pouty looking face last night during the game was a wonderful Christmas Eve eve present to me.

I agree they should totally play that game in the dome. The crowds would be huge.

the same about Arthur Johnson. But he's really developed a lot of quick post moves inside. He's really got an assortment of them down low. He's also surprisingly nimble when running down court. I see him as a Robert Traylor type player in the NBA. Someone who isn't quite a starter, but a solid contributor off the bench.

As for Paulding, he really needs to pick up his game or he'll be a late first rounder. I see Paulding as a defensive, athletic specialist who will also come off the bench.

Travon Bryant's improvement has been dramatic. I think he might be 6'10 and could play center at the NBA. With his range outside, he could be a threat on the offensive end. Then defensively, you've got to like his body and long arms. This guy might end up doing better than AJ in the NBA.

As for Linas Kleiza, I heard he had a difficult game last night, but he looks like he has the most potential of the Tigers. With his NBA body, nastiness inside, and multiple skill sets, I could see him going lottery next year. I see him starring at the next level.

I haven't seen enough of Jason Conley, but you got to like his body and athleticism. I think he'll have more upside than Paulding, and I could see him possible starting in the NBA.

As for McKinney, I'll admit he'll need more seasoning. He really needs to work on his ballhandling skills. You definitely can't talk NBA with him now, but I still like him. I just hope he keeps his head up and eventually he'll emerge. Right now though, it looks like Mizzou might have to ride their hopes on Randy Pulley running the point... I just don't see McKinney ready to lead this team THIS YEAR.

because I used to be a huge Quin backer. But you have to look at the records and performance. He's had a track record of coming up short against very good coaches. However, I still believe in Quin's basketball development system. It seems a number of Mizzou players get better each year. If I wanted to go the NBA, Mizzou is not a bad place to go. However if I want to win championships, I could think of a few better places.

Actually, this post and the daily MU obsession on this board perfectly demonstrates why there is no SLU-MU series.

It's not complicated. Because SLU and MU are not rivals, there is room for folks like myself to root for both schools. I grew up in MQP country rooting for both school - we all did. Like many, I was forced to choose sides when the two played. Now that the teams don't play, emotionally it is very easy to root for both schools, and MU needs a strong fan base in Stl.

On the Tigerboard, SLU is never discussed - months go without a single mention of SLU. This is a good thing for Mizzou. At the moment, it is a one-sided debate - just a few immature SLU fans taking part. Prior to the couple of games the teams played, this sentiment was not terribly common, and it will eventually go away if the teams don't play. The bottom line is that it does not benefit MU to have a rivalry with SLU.

So, get over it. It's sad when there are only 2-3 threads a day on this board and at least one is about another team, in another conference, that your team doesn't play. Quite strange, really.

It's simple if you don't like the thread(s) then don't respond. Let me assure you since you have not been a frequent poster on this board, the disliking of the programs is pretty much mutual and MANY MooFans come over here to voice their opinions about SLU. The smack talking among the fans of the two schools will have nothing to do with whether, or not, the programs play each other...that will be decided by the AD's and HC's.

while conley didnt contribute much last night, i think he has more nba potential than paulding simply because he is a better shooter. that said, probably 6 of these current tigers have at least a cup of coffee nba talent. the best money can buy!

first off, most of the "carry on talk" is because a-hole tiger fans come here day in and day out to keep the talk going.

second, go put slu in the search block at tigerboard. it appears the statement, "On the Tigerboard, SLU is never discussed - months go without a single mention of SLU." might not be true.

btw, great defense by quin so far this season. i have now watched 4 tiger games this year. and i again ask, "just what do they do at a tiger practice?" they definitely dont work on defense and team basketball much. maybe they are working on depositions.

the best money can buy.
