18-16 SIUE after 1st Qtr, Billikens generating too many fouls and early shooting jitters. Looks like a lot of experimenting on the rotation. FYI, Rita Nazarrio on defense was great to see, I don’t make the comparison lightly, but she reminded me a lot of Julia Martinez, motor always running all out, all over the court, being a general pest, throwing her body around.

Billikens came out hot in the 2nd Qtr, flipped the score, 39-27 Billikens. Foul situation flipped as they forced the ball to the rim and drew fouls from SIUE.  Outrebounding them 33-15 at the half. Shooting a little rusty, especially from 3. Defensive effort outstanding so far from the whole team.

2:30 left in the 3rd, Bills up 55-46. Outrebounding them 38-18, but 13 turnovers is keeping SIUE in it.

61-55 end of 3. Bills struggling from the arc, only 5 makes on 20 attempts.

SLU lead cut to one, 63-62, 7 to go. They’ve lost composure on both ends with lots of fouls and even more turnovers.

Good night for Kennedy as she scores 30. Bills win 76-67. Lots to clean up.

Haven't heard much on Mya Glanton. Is she healthy and playing?

2 pts, 6 boards in 12 minutes, only took 2 shots. Kennedy and Anumele took 38 of the 66 FG attempts so not a lot of shots to go around.

My own guess is that Coach Tillet used the game to try different lineups.  11 players total used. Overall we shot 43%, which isn’t bad, but not great. 3 pt shooting was 28%, which is bad. Lots of misses in the 1st and 2nd qtr, (shooting 12.5% in the first, 28.7% in the 2nd), but 40% in both 3rd and 4th qtr. Better shot selection. I think our players started out a bit rusty, but settled down. FT% was only 57% for the game.  I’m not going to worry about one game, but if we’re6-7 games into the season and that’s not improved , we have a problem. Rebounding was very good all game, but SIUE is not going to be our toughest opponent. Still, outrebounding them 49-34 won us the game. Do not like we lost the turnover battle 18-12, did not like to see Kennedy Calhoun fouling out, which she did quite a few times last year as well, need her on the court. Still, a nice win.

Did not like IDOT construction on 270 forcing me to go back through Alton.

Notable that neither of the 6’5 players nor returnee Brooklyn Gray saw the floor.

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ I agree. Guess we’ll see what happens against Missouri S&T next week.

Brooklyn has an injury of some kind. I saw her at the men's exhibition and she had a small boot on one of her feet.

Thanks for the update!   Great to see them back in action.   It is cool to see them returning to the site of last year's championship.  I am hoping that Calhoun takes a big step this year.  I think her development will be key to our success.  When she is on her game she is making nice passes, beating defenders off the dribble and creating alot of turnovers with her tight defending.   But she fouls way too much and also is turnover prone.   You can't have your point guard missing double digit minutes in the first half because she is in early foul trouble.

There was no way I was going to try to make it from Chesterfield to Edwardsville in an hour in Rush Hour for an exhibition game. Too many college sports games in the Midwest starting at 6pm lately.

What was the technical foul for? (Noticed in the box score)

And thanks for the report. I had half a mind to attend the game but then forgot about it. I was there for the NIT final.

The TF happened on a sequence where Kennedy Calhoun stole the ball, then got fouled by the SIUE player who the ball was stolen from. There was pushing and shoving for possession, nothing too major from what I could see, but the ref decided to take charge and calm things down. The SIUE player got a foul called on her, Kennedy Calhoun got a technical called on her. Coach Tillett did not argue the call, it looked to me like the ref did their job properly and diffused the situation. No other incidents like that the rest of the game, fairly clean play after that.
