They brought in 3 offensive mid-fielders in January, and expect 2 back from injury next year, so he fell to a numbers game. He’ll still be playing for City 2 the rest of the playoffs. Quote

Dec 12 and 13 will tell, any other team can pick up his option for next year then at no cost. If he’s not picked up by then, USL is the most likely destination, I agree. He could go to any international team if he wanted. Quote

If we have a purchase option, I assume it will be exercised and he will be protected. If they left him unprotected I’d seriously question Lutz’s decision making. They should consider leaving Klauss unprotected and hoping San Diego takes his contract off our hands. RiseOfTheBillikens 1 Quote

San Diego already signed Chucky Lozano from his Netherlands team to a DP contract, the Mexico City native is exceptionally popular among Hispanic fans, they are not going to use a DP slot on Klauss. Protect someone San Diego might actually want to sign. Of course, it may be that DP’s must be protected, and maybe you don’t want to annoy Klauss if he ends up back on your team. Quote

If (when) exercised, he would be under contract through 2026, with club options for 2027 and 2028. Quote
