brianstl
Yesterday a bill was introduce to set a national standard for college athletics when it comes to athletes profiting from NIL. https://themercury.com/news/moran-introduces-bill-to-allow-college-athletes-to-profit-off-name-likeness/article_3008eccb-f09c-54a6-89ce-89bf1868f866.html This really is going to be a game changer when it comes to college sports and could be a real plus for a program like SLU if it is planned for correctly. The basketball program at SLU really has two things going for it when it comes to NIL. There is no football program to compete with for NIL dollars and it is located in the largest media market in the country without an NBA team. There needs to be people (not directly employed by SLU) preparing a plan to direct dollars and benefits for NIL to the basketball team now. There needs to be a plan in place to get the all the players a deal for use of a car from a dealership like Fusz for using their NIL and other sponsorship deals ready to go for players/recruits. Most immediately if this law is or looks likely to be passed quickly, it could impact the calculation for guys like Goodwin, Perkins or French if it makes sense to stay another year. Is it really worth it for them if overseas or G league looks like the most likely option to leave if they can make money and get other benefits that might have a similar or even higher value by spending another season at SLU? This is something that really should be getting much more attention than it currently is. NH
I could be misremembering, but I seem to recall seeing that SLU had begun the early stages of partnering with a firm who was supposed to specialize in image and likeness issues for athletes. Does this ring a bell to anyone?

Pistol
The subject of NCAA athlete compensation is being argued at the Supreme Court right now (the NCAA challenged the Alson ruling). So far, it is not going well for the NCAA. Justices from all points of the spectrum are just tearing the NCAA's arguments to shreds. It's something to behold. CSPAN (or Twitter, if you follow college sports people) for those interested. stmdragons likes this

It also helps prevent arguments of bias. You can never really tell what will happen.

Their responses have been weak and seem to be pushing them into a worse position. Breyer is the only one who appears to be a little apprehensive.
