One Month Out ......

Well, it's a crap shoot coming down to the wire as usual.  The only game we have left that is not trending to a distinct advantage one way or the other is the home contest against the Bonnies.  The two road games are close enough that they are too close to call.  And the largest margin of favoritism is us against GeeDubya at home right now.

French against Cunningham should be a key factor tomorrow night.  Cunningham is the complete antithesis to the entire Richmond roster.  I know Hasahn avoided foul trouble in Richmond but I believe that was due to the lack of an inside game anywhere on Richmond's roster.  Tomorrow in Dayton will be different.  We may very well need Anthony for more than a quarter to balance out Cunningham.  I dson't believe Foreman is a decnet match up but we made need him too.

Can't let either Darrell Davis or Jalen Crutcher get hot.  Those three guys all play over 30 mpg.  The key is also not letting Trey Landers have "a game."  Guy is up and down all year and feeds off emotion.  He too is close to 30 mpg but the funny thing there islast year he got in nine games and plyed under 6 mpg.  So he is really a stop gap right now ----- Dayton is that weak compared to years past.  We can't be taken by surprise and let Crosby, GF 2.0, the Czech or long lost Xeriyusto find himself.  Gonna be a dog fight.

Two weeks ago I would have been happy with a 3-2 final five games.  Now we are 1-0, so I'd still be happy with a split of the final 4.

Bess had a huge game here against the Flyers with 20.  Johnson had 16 in only 20 minutes, and Roby went for 14, mostly from the FT.  Goodwin was a minor contributor with 6 points and 3 boards.  Not saying we can repeat that performance, but there is no reason to wave the white flag.  Dayton will be a desperate team as they are one game above the PIG.

We gonna let the dogs out!

From the A10Forum.  Through 15 games.

Some additional comments from the poster:

URI can clinch the 1 seed with a win Friday against Dayton
Davidson has clinched a top 4 seed
St Bonnies clinches a top 4 seed with 1 more win
4 seed is still wide open 8 team within 2 games

My comment;  we beat GW, we are free from a PIG possibility.

From the A10 Forum.  It appears our worse case finish now would be 8th, tied with Dayton and Richmond.  We hold a tie breaker over Richmond.  Win out and we have a double bye.

This season has been a distinct success, no matter how you cut it.  That success is amplified tenfold when you factor in all this team had to endure given the bone-headedness of some of its former members and that then allowing administrative knuckleheads access to the program and further derailment.  This team, including Jordan Goodwin, deserve nothing but the utmost in terms of our respect.  He won't get COY but Ford has probably done his best job ever holding this ship together.  To be battling for the 4 spot with such a depleted roster is downright amazing.  One can only imagine where we'd be with a full boat.

The above A10 item by Hoosier Pal, while current, offer \s no extrapolation going forward.  I expect VCU to win out and finish at 10 and 8.  In order to best them, we need to win out.  The rest doesn't matter.  Once again, you have to take care of business.  Control what you can control.

I would tend to agree with you, Taj.  VCU is not going to lose their last game to Fordham.  So, in order for SLU to hold on to the #4 seed we likely need to win the last two games.  However, their is a path to the #4 seed if we split the last 2 games.  If George Mason beats VCU and then loses the final game to Richmond that would be enough to keep us on the #4 line.  Absent that scenario, we need to beat the Dukes and the Bonnies.

The middle of the pack is such a cluster.  Always is.

What I expect:  VCU to finish 10 and 8.  Mason to go 9 and 9.  St. Joe's to go 9 and 9.  Dayton to finish 8 and 10.  Richmond at 8 and 10.  Obviously we finish 11 and 9 and fourth is locked.  If we lose one and finish 10 and 8, we drop to fifth with our tiebreaker head-to-head with VCU.  If we drop to 9 and 9 and finish tied with Mason and St. Joe's,  VCU gets fourth, Mason gets fifth being 3 and 0 against us and the joeys, and we get sixth given our head-to-head with Joe.  All that with what I believe will happen happens.  This also means Daytons loses Wednesdya night at the Goal mausoleum.

That is true almaman and that is an okay measure of success if so desired.  Do I think this team can win out in DC and go dancing?  Frankly, no.  It would take a miracle but miracles do happen.  I enjoy this team when it is fresh -- like the week off before the Richmond game and then that result.  I have also seen this team on back-to-back nights in NYC and the difference was downright gruesome.  And that was with Goodwin.  Having to play Thursday-Friday-Saturday and Sunday in DC will kill us; taking Thursday out would logically help.  I'd like to go down (from Baltimore now) Firdya, catch a win, and come back Saturday.  If I make to Sunday --- GRAVY!  I have to admit being torn between wanting to see this season end (so we can move on to bigger and better things) and wanting it to go on because I enjoy the effort the guys come out with.

So if I understand correctly, our path to a 4-seed is to beat St. Bonaventure, and hope Richmond beats George Mason - am I missing anything?

Yes, but add that if St Joe is 10-8 also, we have the tiebreaker on the head to head.
