Hi Billikens. I thought I would drop by and share my thoughts on the game and hopefully get some of your thoughts as well.

I am really nervous about this game. I’ve been very impressed with your team thus far, particularly on the defensive end. If you can keep up the defensive intensity, UW may be in for a long day.

A bit on Washington: This is a talented but very young team. UW lost 3 starters from last year’s squad including their leader, Isaiah Thomas. As with any young and inexperienced team, UW has yet to develop much chemistry on the offensive end and many players seem a bit slow in defensive rotations. As a collection of individual talent, I think UW can match most teams in the country, but they have yet to gel as a team.

Under Romar, Washington is a team that likes to run and score in the high 80s and 90s. If they play a team that tries to run with them, they typically blow them out of the water. Conversely, UW typically struggles with a slow down, deliberate half court offensive team, particularly if the team has the athletes and size to disrupt the huskies on D.

This team can be frustrating sometimes because they tend to fall in love with the 3 ball. Their free throw shoot is abysmal and could be their Achilles heel in close games this year.

Here is a link to highlights form our last game against Portland: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/huskymensbasketballblog/2016772593_video_more_uw-p.html

At bit on our starters:

Abdul Gaddy - PG - Jr. Abdul is the heady 6’3” pg and the leader of the team. He was 5 star all American coming out of high school (2nd rated behind John Wall) and is finally living up to the hype. He will not wow you with his athleticism or explosiveness but is very solid.

CJ Wilcox - SG - Soph. CJ is a 6’5” shooting guard and my favorite player on the team. I am biased but I honestly think he has the best shot in college basketball. He is shooting something like 60% from 3.

Terrence Ross - G/F - Soph. TRoss is the most talented player on the team. A 6’6” combo guard/forward, he is projected as an NBA lottery pick after the season. He has all of the potential in the world, but has yet to put it together consistently game after game.

Darnell Gant - F - SR. Gant is a Sr. leader. Not a natural back to the basket forward. He is a face up guy with a great shot. A good defender in the post.

Aziz Ndyiae. - C - Jr. Aziz is the enforcer. He primary contributions are on the defensive end and rebounding. His offense has improved slightly (he was a stone handed mess last year) but he is mostly a defensive specialist and rebounding machine.

Sixth Man – Tony Wroten – PG – Fr. Tony is our prized recruit this year. He is a stud 5 star 6’5” point guard. He can be brilliant at times, but like most freshman, makes stupid mistakes and forces the issue too often.

Like I said, I am incredibly nervous about this game. This team has yet to play a true road game and Im afraid they may get punched in the mouth by a good defensive team, lose their composure and start jacking up 3s.

Lastly, Romar has always said great things about his time in St. Louis. He always speaks very highly of your university and your basketball program. I’ve been very impressed with the Billikens so far this year and am looking forward to a great game Sunday. Good Luck....but not too much.

Long? Apparently you have never read one of Taj's posts. :)

Seriously though, welcome to the board and thanks for the info. I'm happy to see that it appears that your weakness's play directly into our strengths. It is few and far between that a team who likes to run is able to do so against us. And if they like the 3 ball, we'll give them a run as we have typically had the best 3pt defense in the conference and some of the best in the country. I'm really looking forward to Sunday...should be a helluva game!

I would add that Suggs is out for the remainder of the month with and injury.

Shawn Kemp Jr. should also see time as Aziz's primary back up. At 6-10 or so he plays tough and seems, so far, to rebound well but doesn't have a developed offensive game.

Desmond Simmons is a glue/hustle guy who will get after loose balls and rebounds.

Will any of you be traveling to St. Louis for the game? Thanks for the posts, and welcome to the board.

Shawn Kemp Jr.? Nice!!

How many bastard children does he have?

Im pretty sure if a coach wanted to he could make up a team with nothing but Shawn Kemp offspring.

Apparently Jr got more than his father's basketball genes as he was ruled academically ineligible at Auburn before being cleared and transfering to UW.

It would be great to see Sr. at the game. He would be easy to spot just look for the 6 foot 10 guy with about 13 mini-me's following behind him.

As big of a joke as Shawn Kemp Sr is, I will say he was awesome in "Pros vs Joes."

On a side note what a great show that is. It takes all of the athletes that arent quite famous enough to end up on the surreal life and puts them on TV so all of us common folk can laugh at how fat and out of shape they have become.

Has Kemp Jr had his 5th kid yet?

I remember watching Shawn Kemp play his rookie year. I was at a Bulls game watching Jordan host the Supersonics and Kemp was a rookie. Kemp was fun to watch.

Didn't Kemp set a record for like most weight gain in the off-season one year? It was like 65 pounds are something crazy like that.

we seem to have done pretty well at getting former football players into media jobs now...definitely quite the range of talent there.

Personally I think Brock Huard and Ed Cunningham are the best.

I want Marques Tuiasosopo to get a media job, only because I like his name.

D'Marco does talk up the Huskies quite a bit on his radio show. It wouldn't surprise me if he's in attendance at Chaifetz before heading to the dome to handle his radio duties for the Rams.

Welcome to our visiting Washington Huskie posters. I'll try to give a brief recap of the players in our rotation. Here is a direct link to the roster.

This is how we started @ SIU

Rob Loe, center, New Zealand. Big and long but soft. His skill is shooting the 3. This season he had not yet found his shot but has improved on the defensive end. We need him to defend against Washington.

Brian Conklin, PF, Eugene OR. Under sized PF who is physical, plays well in the paint, sets bone crushing screens, but compliments his lack of size with a lack of athleticism. He has trouble guarding athletic bigs. He has shown well in the first two games.

Dwayne Evans, SF, Chicago. Long, athletic SF. Made the A10 all rookie team. Played more in the paint in high school so has been working on developing a perimeter game (which is still a work in progress). Perhaps our best rebounder. He was our most consistent player last season but has contributed very little the first two games this season. We need him to show up for Washington.

Kyle Cassity, SG, southern IL. Big guard who is a glue guy. Does everything right except lacks the ability to take charge. More comfortable being a supplemental scorer and distributor than a scorer. If his first 3 falls, then he relaxes and will take that shot when it is there. If he misses his first few shots, he stops shooting. Return of Mitchell has helped him big time IMHO.

Kwamain Mitchell, combo guard, Milwaukee. Small, quick slashing guard who can also knock down the three. Natural leader. 2nd team all conference as a sophomore (led the team in scoring), then missed his entire third year due to an alleged sexual assault. Thus, he is coming back this season after being off an entire year. He hasn't found his shot yet so we are all waiting for him to explode.

---------------------

Cody Ellis, PF, Australia. 2nd leading scorer as a freshman then had a disastrous sophmore season. His skill is shooting the three although is an improved rebounder. Brings size to the table and underrated hops but lacks foot speed. He has been rebounding better this year and looked much better than his sophomore year. Great asset off the bench

Mike McCall, combo guard, Chicago. Small, very quick guard with an excellent outside shot. Can slash but not yet as good in that roll as Mitchell. Forced into the starting lineup as a freshman due to the suspension of Mitchell. With the return of Mitchell, McCall is sort of searching for his role right now. We need him to come off the bench and score.

Jordair Jett, PG, St. Paul, MN. PG with size. Great on ball defender. Can slash. A better shot blocker than his size may lead one to believe. Has a mid-range game but not particularly good beyond the arc.

Cory Remekun, C, Dallas, TX. Nice hops but not particularly big. Decent rebounder. Not much of a scorer. Some days he is a good backup center. Other days he is not. So far this season he has looked solid.

If Farr decides to go to the game................

He will show up to the game without a ticket, demand to be let into the game without a ticket, cuss out the ticket taker, then claim that he just needs to get inside to take a piss, and he will say he doesn't want to argue anymore because it is fukcing cold outside.

Conklin and Ross have some history which should be fun to see how well they remember each other. Ross's team at Jefferson when Ross was a Soph. knocked out Conklin's team on the way to the state championship. The Sr. Conklin got 11 points to the Soph. Ross's 20.

Definitely too bad that Scott Suggs can't play in this game as I'm sure that was a large part of why UW is coming to SLU.

It is just part of a long list of things UW has in common with Lindenwood. They don't call UW the Lindenwood of the west coast for nothing

I always wanted to hear John Madden call a Sack of Marques Tuiasosopo by Pisa Tinoisamoa while attempting a pass to Brandon Manumaleuna.

Im pretty sure his head would have exploded.
