I don't want to steal Joe B's thunder but I thought I would let everyone know about one of the newest eating establishments near campus.

It was posted about a month ago on the board.

My family had lunch at Pappy's Smokehouse this afternoon and were very pleased. It is at 3106 Olive one block east of Compton on the south side.

Very informal, laid back. Not a lot of sitting but big enough. I think they get a lot of carryout. My 2 daughters and their husbands all graduated from SLU in recent years and they all wished Pappy's was there when they were in school.

The ribs are dry rub which I like, but I know a lot of St. Louisians like a lot of BBQ sauce on theirs. There are 3 types of BBQ sauces on the tables.

Just thought I pass along my experience.

Bonwich's take is in the paper today:

This place sounds great. Hopefully it becomes a huge hangout before and after games- and it just got its liquor license.

Joe, you didn't really have anything negative to say about the food, so why the B+ instead of an A?

I had lunch there today. Great BBQ, and I loved the sweet potato fries and spicy baked beans. They hope to get their liquor license next week, and they intend to expand their hours this summer.

If they don't have a liquor license, you can bring your own wine - I've never seen a restaurant w/o a license forbid this. Of course, I take my own wine everywhere and am happy to pay corkage. I've gone to A Good Pie several times before games and done that. Cheers

Pappy's is on Olive and Cardinal and the preferred entrance is on Cardinal. It is in the same building as another restaurant which makes it hard to see from Olive. When you enter make sure you don't go to the other place which also serves barbeque. It can be confusing.

Just wanted to let everybody know pappy's will be staying open on saturday evenings until around 8pm starting saturday, october 3.

This is awesome news. I hope there are no food shortages by that time every Saturday night, though.
