  1. Crews is more like the character "Shooter" (played by Dennis Hopper)in the film classic "Hoosiers'. He has a distantly past legitimacy that he dwells on, and Gene Hackman/Majerus, brings him in as a last resort. He's also somewhat of a charity case. But, Hackman/Majerus is able to milk a little bit of usefulness out of him for a short while. In the long run, though, Shooter/Crews turns out to be unreliable and unfit for the job.
  2. Earth to Venice Menace- In between bong loads you may want to consider extinguishing the torch you carry for Rickma. While he was the greatest Billikens coach that you are I may ever see, he's gone. Sure, on a regular basis, I re-watch the Washington game, the Charlotte Miracle, Round 2 with Memphis, and, what is definitely my favorite Billiken's loss of all time, the 3rd round Michigan State game. Both Conklin and I broke down in tears when that one was over. All that is in the past. It's time to move forward. I don't blame Majerus for bringing in the cancer that is Jim Crews, and Majerus' teams shouldn't be compared to the current team. It's far too painful.
  3. It's a forgone conclusion that Crews is gone after this season, so maybe it's time to move on to the next logical point of discussion. Following up on thicks coherent line of reasoning: Does Jim Crews deserve induction into the Billiken HOF? Crews .640 winning percentage, if not the best, ranks near the top for any SLU coach. Back to back A-10 titles, Two time A-10 COY, Sporting News National AND NABC COY. In many respects, Crews has a SLU coaching resume that is unmatched by any former coach. Crews can make a solid case for HOF induction. Who can deny him that honor?
  4. Yeah, Crews didn't want the job in the first place, and he must know that he sucks as a coach, but that doesn't stop him from cashing his $750,000+/- paycheck as he phones in another lost season. That's character. Bobby Knight sure as hell better write Crews out of his will!
  5. This statement indicates that you are delusional.
  6. Huh!!?? Crews' aspirations to coach at IU died 15 years ago. The only thing he was aspiring to do was more fishin', before Majerus begged him to help out for one year.
  7. Another good loss for the Bills! ISU is very underrated. They took IUPU down to the wire, holding them to 72 and losing by only 2.That should be taken into consideration when Crews' resume is reviewed at the end of the year.
  8. It's a good loss. Hey, UT-Martin held UMKC to 74 points. It's just that Richard Lee guy had a once-in-a-lifetime, lights-out game where he hit everything. As hot as Lee was tonight, UT-Martin probably could have beaten UMSL, too.
  9. Thanks for the post! I have full confidence that the Bills will be a Top 10 team again sometime in the future. The problem is, I don't have 30 yrs to wait for it anymore. As the great George Allen said, "The future is now!" Get rid of Crews ASAP! Follow the Majerus model, and bring in PJ Carlesimo, or some other proven winner!
  10. 18-12 would be a disaster for the Bills! It would guarantee that Crews remains. 12-18 is much more preferred.
  11. In his prime, Rick Majerus would sky-walk all over the likes of Drew Hanlen!
  12. Probably because you are neglecting to take into account the huge decrease in basketball program revenues as a result of the walking, talking, disaster that is Jim Crews- No post-season tournaments of any kind, significantly lower attendance, less TV revenue, etc. Basketball income has to be down, at minimum, $1million/yr compared to the Majerus days; probably a lot more. It doesn't take a financial genius to forecast the future downward trajectory of revenues as a result of continuing Jim Crews' reign of error. Bottom line is Crews is gone at the end of year. That's a lock. The big question is who will replace him? There were a number of fortunate circumstances that led to SLU's unlikely hire of Coach Majerus, But I am confident that the positive influences behind that hire are still around today. I heard that Dr Chaffetz has PJ Carlesimo on speed-dial. Off topic- Soderberg was a much better coach than Crews ever was!
  13. No we wouldn't, because Crews is still the coach. It is relatively pointless to talk about player needs when the problems clearly won't be solved until the current coach is gone.
  14. I wonder if Bruce will make any on-stage comments about the Billiken's head coaching controversy? Of course, the Mar. 6th show date should closely coincide with Crews' firing.
  15. That's right. In addition to his inability to coach, Crews is also a terrible recruiter. The Bill's had just come off of their best three season's in team history; being nationally ranked and advancing in the NCAA tournament all three years. Crews' inability to recruit major talent after that is pathetic. But, based on the circumstances and timing, it is understandable that Crews is still the HC. School administrators had to keep him on after two COY's, and last year was re-building; even though anybody paying attention, even 2 seasons ago, could tell that Crews was not the answer. Best case scenario, moving forward, is for the team to continue to suck out-loud. In addition, the players should be encouraged to hang coach Crews in effigy. That would go a long way in supporting his demise.
  16. Rumor has it that Chaffetz was in New York having dinner with PJ Carlesimo
  17. The best that can be hoped for is that Crews is gone at the end of the season.
  18. I'd be happy too if my kid was going to get a free education at a top notch school like Saint Louis University- even if the coach sucks. It's still much better than UMKC.
  19. In all honesty, the best case scenario for the Bills is a sub-10 win season. That way, they can get rid of the disaster that is Jim Crews. In 30+ years of rabid fandom, this is the first time that I have ever hoped for the team to lose.
  20. What in the H-E-double hockey sticks is that supposed to mean!!??
